  • I was 19 and he was 21. In April, we will have been married 15 years. I heard this on the radio today, and felt like it was written for us. We have weathered many storms, including the loss of our son. Through it all, that Promise has kept us strong. Thank you for this song.

  • This song pretty much sums up my relationship with my bride to be. We can't thank God enough for bringing us through our minefields and we will hold firm on to him and each other through the ones to come. This song reminds me how precious a gift my soon to be bride is. I hope you read this Hannah Joy because I want you to know and see how deeply I love you! 5 years of blessings so far and 80 years of blessings to go:)

  • there are none like you Andrew....thank you for sharing one of your gifts with us!!

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard :') Praise the Lord for a Chrits-centered love song like this one :)

  • My daughter's middle name is Promise and this song represents perfectly why that is her name. Children are a symbol of the promise a husband and wife make on their wedding day before God and those around them. :)

  • Beautiful song. Thank you so much for writing and sharing with us. Inspires me. "That's what the promise is for."

  • This song is filled with truth.....I have been married 25 years and passed though many storms...And though faith God drifted us too clamer shores......May God shine a beautiful light on your path. Sheryl

  • I hope this reminds all of us that we love our wives (or husbands) not just for who they are, but also for God's glory. It honors God to love your spouse...even when you don't want to.

  • I was 19 he was 29 when we got married. Today is our 9 year anniversary. I thank God everyday for helping us every step of the way. There is nothing quite like marriage. It has it's ups and downs but even through the downs it's so worth it.

  • Just heard this today. Don't get to see many vids on tv today...too many reality shows or stupid cr*p on. I love this!! Marriage is not a perfect thing...but with the right person...it lasts. I'm crying...waiting for that day...and it still has not come along. Sometimes...we never get it...but we can't give up.

  • I'm not married, but I absolutely love this song. I know this is the way God designed marriage to be, and I sincerely look forward to dancing in the minefields with my husband someday.

  • i just heard this song like 20 times.. guess one of those kinda songs you just never get enough with.. :)

Dedicated to all the couples who are strong together.. and an encouragement for the ones who are losing hope to stand strong.. :)

  • I think that those who clicked dislike thought that it meant Dis-I-Like, like this I like...

  • the words and melody are good...its just so alluring and capturing..

  • Beautiful !

  • To this song I say "I wish" I only hoped I would have accomplished that kind of love and commitment in my life. I know I have provided it to others but I do not have it now. At 30 the only woman I feel that ever loved me died. I sit here now just turned 40 and I still have dreams. To my God I pray!

  • His concert was amazing!

  • I'm going to play this song on my wedding day :D <3

  • lol whoever filmed this didn't know how to keep the camera focused xD

  • Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!! :D

  • @MsAprilA i know, its cute

  • This is such a sweet and tender song, and I love the underlying message in it, cuz that message is so true:)

  • love this song!!!!

  • Saw him in concert tonight, so funny and so talented!!

  • I just saw him in concert last night, it was amazing.

  • I love this song soooooo much...touches my heart every time.

  • This song shows that love is not about material things. Its about unconditional love and both commiting yourselves to living for God, and loving eachother. I love this song. I hope I find a love like this one day.

  • This is my new all-time favorite song.

  • 9 people accidentally pressed the dislike button instead of the OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS A STROKE OF CHRISTIAN GENIUS. Nebraska loves you Andrew

  • Awesome, awesome song.

  • This song gives me hope.♥

  • Certainly one of the best songwriters out there today. Exploring the layers of reality with God and us.

  • 2:25 - 2:30 MY FAVOURITE BIT!

  • @HarvRick97 Yes, its very true. it gives me chills. Hes always here for us:)

  • I can't stop listening to this. There is a certain beat and the guitar is beautiful, it makes it worth listening to over and over. The music video is so precious. Andrew's voice is so gentle and comforting. :3

  • my amazing bf showed me this song <3 amazing song

  • My best friend is playing this at his brother's wedding :')

  • I love this song so much :)

  • I want to Be able to Dance to this Song at my wedding, Such a great song and true to what God does Promise us, someone we can take hold of and keep us up when we are down.

  • On June 4th 2011 I married my best friend and this was our first dance song. We are 19 years old and love nothing and no one more than Christ. What a beautiful song.

  • @emilyhofstetter 1, I am really happy for you both, it is a beautiful song, I'm a newly turned christian and find its message timeless. 2, the 4th of June 2011 was when my friend turned 14 :D (sorry, random fun fact there ;D)

  • I've been playing this song non-stop for probably 4 days straight at work.

  • Great song.

  • Every time me and my wife go through hard times I think of this song! I love her so much and will gladly dance in the minefields with her!

  • "That is what the promise is for" - 38 years and His promise to walk with us has never failed.

  • i'm not married like everybody else that's commenting but i do love this song & i do think that love in life is exactly how this song portrays it ! (:

  • I've been married 31 years. This song is precious. Often, I think that sometimes we endure; sometimes we thrive. We don't get to do either if we quit. I don't think we get to the good stuff unless we've endured and thrived. Marriage is an opportunity for us to grow up.

  • @8576Gina So many people say marriage is a path toward "finding yourself." Garbage. If you're going into marriage trying to find yourself, you will never like the person you see in the mirror. Marriage is God's way of helping us to lose ourselves, not to find ourselves. We've only got 5 years under our belts, but in another 26 years, I know that by sacrificing for each other, my wife and I will be more ourselves than we are now. Strange how that works, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

  • I am 19 and my fiance is 23, we met through our church and are getting married in five weeks. I feel so involved with this song, its so beautiful and i plan on using it in our wedding. Thank you for writing such beautiful and inspiring lyrics.

  • how could you dislike this song?? i mean honestly..?

  • This song makes me look forward to finding the companion God has created for me so we can grow old together and look back...

  • Not only are these guys incredibly talented, they are also hysterical in concert! Thanks for sharing your beautiful melodies and powerful lyrics. God bless!

  • Always gives me goosebumps. Beautiful song.

  • I used to work for Andrew's brother and met Andrew a couple of times. Really good people. God bless you guys!

  • 7 people blew up in the minefields (god bless though:])

  • For me and a friend of mine, following God together. We both think that God brought us together and we are both willing to wait for each other until we get old enough to get married, and then do so. It will be a long time, and it's definitely a minefield we are dancing in, but God is keeping our path free of mines as I accept his offer to dance with me. Its hard to be just friends when you're in love, but thats what we will do until the right time. Thank you, God. <3

  • My fiance and I are getting married in 10 days and my friend at college played this song for me and I fell in love with it. ♥

  • So in the face of all this chaos, baby I can dance with you. <3 I love you Trenton

  • The Lord bless you and your marriage. This song totally encourages "Holy Matrimony". Can't do it unless the "Chord of Three Strands" binds you.

Thank you my daughter will be married this summer to a great guy who wants to be a total Promise Keeper....I'm encouraged thanks again

  • I heard this on the radio and was so happy because it worded perfectly why my husband and I named our daughter how we did. Her middle name is Promise, and this song expresses what it means wonderfully!

  • I'm praying my husband doesn't leave me and he'll remember his promise!

  • @FaithfulPagan May the Lord lift you up to His presence, into healing and reconciliation in the name of Jesus Christ! Nothing is too big for Him, just let everything go and leave it in His hands!

  • Aren't there young people not married who like this song? i do!

  • Married 36 years. Great video. Seems like it would be a good resource to use for United Marriage Encounter events or other marriage retreats.

  • Acctualy the shadowfeilds are a refrence to pslalms "Though i walk in the shadow of the valley of death i will fear no evil"

  • this is a awsome song and the video pulls at my heart strings.

  • Great song! i hope that one day i will be able to live this song out!

  • this song helped my marriage

  • Looks Like 5 People Have Stepped On Actual Mines.

  • My fiance and i are getting married in three weeks. It was only two weeks ago when we heard this song and thats what gave him the reasurrance that he was ready to marry me and love me. :D thank u for this song. It helps us every day see our true love for one another even threw our trials :D

  • When I hear this song I think of my "husband". We're high school sweet hearts it's been 17 yrs and I still get butterflies like I did as school girl when he smiles at me. We never officially got married but we have that forever bond. Things are sometimes hard but we both think it's worth fighting to stay together cause the love is there. True love is so rare to find now days. I feel like God has blessed me so much giving me such a wonderful man to share my life with.

  • My wedding song, no doubt about it. <3

  • Great song! Melodic and sweet and genuine!

  • This entire album is a favorite of my wife and I. I bought it for her for Christmas last year and we listened to it at least 5 times while our daughter was born. Absolutely love it!

  • i <3 his voice this song makes me cry

  • This song makes me cry. My fiance and I will be sharing our first dance as a married couple to this song next year :) God is amazing.

  • lovely voice, heartfelt lyrics = great band. cant get enough of those

  • I absolutely LOVE this song!!!! Just a Great song!!

  • I'm not a huge fan of Christian music but this is AMAZING. I heard it on my work and it brightened my day incredibly.

  • the old people are so cute! :)

  • I'll go dancing in the minefields with you Andrew!!!!

  • I love this song, I met the guy in the back on the left. He is such an amazin God person! But I also LOVE this song, it is amazing.<3

  • You should be allowed to click the like button as many times you repeat this song, in my case I lost count :-)

  • This song is just what we need to hear in this day-and-age with so many divorces going on and broken homes suffering. When you say "I do" that is for the rest of your life- better or worse- for richer or poorer!

Christ was a perfect example of this in his sacrifice on the cross. When was the last time we were killed for loving someone? That is a huge reminder when we get consumed by our worries and trials. "No greater love than this, that you would lay down your life for your friends"

  • This is the first song, in a long time, that I can listen to, over and over again, and each time, my heart swells. It's simply beautiful.

  • I'm 18 years young, when I listen to this song I think of my boyfriend of 4 years. We're both so young with so much ahead of us, but I want this to be us.

Only God knows what I have ahead of me.

  • so in the midst of this chaos baby...i can dance with you. lets go dancing in the minefields. lets go sailing in the storms. itll be harder than we'd dreamed but thats what this promise is for.

  • God strengthens me by giving me a tangeable touchable example of his love and faithfullness through my husband and our church family too.Thank you Mr Peterson for writing this song and your obedience to God in your tallents he has blessed you with! Ok im dont sorry for so many posts!

  • Even though we werent walking with him before we were married and even though we 'accidentally" got pregnant..God is still in charge and has a plan for us and our children they were NOT a mistake and neither was our marriage. I thank God everytime I se my husband get stronger in his faith and lead us big or small be it prayer at meals or holding me tight and praying over me when im having a freak out.

  • Ive listend to this song the past mon th multiple times a day. We also bought our rings at a pawn shop in town lolMy husband has made so many good changes and he has stood by me in my struggle with sever bi-polar dissorder and the diagnoses of our oldest son with possablr adhd/highfunctioning autism/and sensory processing disorder.

We each have our own issues and strugles and have hurt one another deeply. But I KNOW God is faithful! And I KNOW he brought us together for a reason!

  • My husband and I were married at 19 and 20 (I am 7 months older) I was 8weeks pregnant with our oldest sone, we now have three awesome kiddos who are 5 1/2, 4 and three they are 19months and 15 months apart. We have struggled from the get go, with our relationship, faithfulness to God and eachother. Our oldest and yougest both boys) have some varrying degrees of special needs. Its stressful and its amazing all at once.

  • Dude! Andrew! Great song and I love the video too! Thank you for being real and transparent in your music and keep the good writing coming!

    -Patrick

  • I miss my wife despirately.

  • I danced with my girlfriend for the first time to this song at her sisters wedding the other day. I love this song so much, I couldn't hear it though, her eyes were too distracting. This song shows commitment and making God the center of your relationship, that's what I plan to do. How Andrew made this song.. I have no idea, it's perfect

    Just thought I'd share that

  • @ArigatoShinigami i actually went to see him in concert and he explained that he wrote this song in one night while him and his wife were fighting. In the morning when she came down he was playing it for her and they made up. The song and the story behind it are really touching (:

  • I just wanted to say that my husband and I are both Pagans. But today we found this song and we both absolutley love it! It's a beautiful song of love and commitment. Exactly what a marriage should be about.

  • "I do are the two most famous last words, the beginning of the end." I see what you did there, Mr. Peterson. ;)

  • sounds dangerous :/

  • My sister and her boyfriend, who was a big jerk, had a roller coaster relationship for 1 year when he told her he wanted them to start going to church. 2 months after that he decided he wanted to start following after God, and began treating her right. 5 months later they got engaged. Yesterday they were married before 100 witnesses of his transformation, and this was the song for their final dance.

  • @elisaisnothome That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard.

  • @elisaisnothome Thats awesome :D God is our light in our darkest hour hes been there when i've fallen so many times and he was there. my cousin told me to look up this song at a family reunion and i cried thinking how i much hes given me a home that i worship God and not hide.

  • What a beautiful song! My parents would have been married 59yrs. this past Dec. Dad died this past June. This song reminds me of my parents' marriage. Through struggles & hardtimes, their love was embraced "until death did HE part." I'm also proud to say that this song also reminds me of my own marriage. In 1983 my husband & I were married 8yrs. & had 2 small children when he became a paraplygic from an industrial accident. We too are still so very much in love "until death do US part."

  • My dad died in January but then i listened to this song and i felt happy for once.. :)

  • Im so happy at the responce to this comment..i have so many ppl opening up and sharing THEIR stories with me. Mine is just one in a million. God is the one who deserves all the glory here..thanks for the love everyone(:

  • ok 3 people cant dance

  • 3 people must not be fans of sustainable marriages

  • In June, my husband and I will have been married 40 years. We have definitely been dancing in the mine fields through every one of those years. When all is said and done, it is the promise...

  • This song gives me hope for my future.

  • 2 people can't dance

  • Totally playing this at my wedding. It might even be "our song".

  • i love this type of music... this genre.. so relaxing...

  • I want this song played at my wedding (: a TRUE love song(:

  • This song is both amazing and occasionally drives me nuts b/c I am 19.

  • I will have some one some day, and when i do, im going to have him listen to this song,

  • Beautiful song, and beautiful scenery.

Sometimes, (if you're young like me), you'll forget about the beauty of the world, and those in it, too much time sent behind screens... but something like this can remind you. I find it odd.

  • This song is gorgeous. This is exactly the kind of love that I want; a love dependent on Christ and centered on Him, growing and learning together, sharing in God's blessings. I was listening to a Christian radio station online and this song came on I just fell in love, hah. Andrew Peterson is now my favorite Christian artist =D

  • I have been listening to a Christen redio staion and this is one of the songs I love the most. The more I listen to the staion the more I think, I can do this, I can make it through this life. I have belived in God for all my life and know He has always walked with me, but it has been two year sence I have chosen to give my life to Christ. I struggle but that is the way of things.

  • Isaac and i have been married for a year and a half. The longer we are together, and the more we watch other relationships, the more we understand that love is so much more a choice, a decision, and an action than feelings. The very definition of "unconditional love" shows that love is those things, because feelings are conditional. Thank you for this song, it expresses so much of what i want to share with my husband.

  • moved me to the core

  • It what Gods promise is for you when you make your vows in the presence of him - only with God what he is singing about could be possible.

  • YES...YESSSSSSSSSSS...I LOVE IT!!!!! THAT IS WHAT THE PROMISE ARE FOR!!! THIS IS ONE OF THOSE VIDEOS I ENJOY WATCHING OVER AND OVER AND LISTENING TOO. I LOVE ANDREW'S VOICE AND THE THE PEACE THAT HE HAS WHILE SINGING THE SONG...OH MAN, GOD BLESS HIM!!!!

  • Beautiful. There is not greater gift than Love. It is the greatest gift of all.

  • Beautiful

  • This is just too perfect! My husband and I actually got engaged when I was 19 and he was 21! He is now deployed to Afghanistan and it is harder than either of us ever could have dreamed, but our faith is getting us through it! The part that says "So I'll walk with you in the shadowlands till the shadows disappear. Cause He promised not to leave us and his promises are true. So in the face of all this chaos baby, I can dance with you" really applies to us! Love it!

  • We were 18 when we met, 19 when we got engaged, 22 when we wed, and 23 when our first child was born. Over 10 years together, nearly 7 years of marriage, and 2 beautiful children (one with a lifetime disability) later... I can't think of anyone else I'd rather sail the storms with.

  • This was a blessing to listen to, thanks for posting it!

Married since 1986! :) We can totally relate to the lyrics in this song.

  • Best song ever! It has true meaning of what love is. And thats what I LOVE about it!

  • There was a point in time when a song this beautiful would have deservedly enjoyed many week at number one in the Bill Board Top 100 chart, it just goes to show you how much the world has changed (and NOT for the better) when you don't even see an appearance of this song anywhere except in the Christian stations. I'm neither relegious nor Christian, but I do find it interesting how they pigeon-hole songs as Christian, even though there's not even a mention of Jesus anywhere in this song. Sad.

  • @jahaantarbiat

dude, listen to the lyrics. Its a Christian song.

  • @jahaantarbiat If you really listen to the lyrics, he talks about the promise of God.

  • @4AutismAwareness Not just that, he talks about the Son of Man.

  • @3800power Right.

  • I am in love with this song!!!!!!!!!!

  • Every time i listen i cry and think of my true love that is a year older than me. He and i will have to go through the same things as the song tells of. And oh, i cannot wait to start, with him. Thank God for love and for the beauty in beholds in all things.

  • One of, if not THE most beautiful songs ever!!!

  • This song is beautiful! My mom knows how much I love this song & she calls this my song, even though the lyrics don't apply to me at all except for that I have the same beliefs. :)

  • My parents have been dancing in the mine fields for 50 yrs, and now they are in the shadowlands as my dad has cancer and alzheimers.....the line 'remind me when I forget my name, remind me' is so very poignant....this song is wonderful reminder that the shadows will disappear....not only our promises to each other carry us but the promises of God to restore all things new. Beautiful song!!!

  • I love how he makes a reference to C.S. Lewis.

"So I'll walk with you in the ShadowLands."

    :)

  • @xoxo2lexi4xoxo He makes references to C.S. Lewis's and Tolkien's writings in some of his songs, just another reason he's such an awesome singer/songwriter. :D

  • I find such joy in this song. it's so nice and something different. I loved this song. I wish that one day I will be able to dedicate this song to someone special :] but for now, i'll just enjoy this wonderful song. Praise God!!!

  • Thanks for this incredible song. My husband and I met at 19 and got married at 22. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary. We've danced, dodged and weaved all through the minefields but have come out stronger and more committed to each other than on that morning we, as wide eyed kids, said, "I do." For those of you struggling, hold on to that promise and hold on to each other. You can make it through the other side. God Bless.

  • I'm fighting to save my own marriage right now & heard this on the radio Saturday. Although we're states away it brought me joy like God has heard my prayers and this was his reassurance.

  • i'm going thru such a tough time with my husband. we both recently became believers after he lost his way a few times. I heard this song on the radio this morning after dropping him off at work and it's stuck in my head. i love it, love the lyrics, love the meaning. im praying that he remembers what the promise is for :(

  • @onevolcomchick Love Dare? So much to learn in that book about what your marriage is to God and to each other. I'm struggling to save my own marriage and we're 1000 miles apart.

  • @PHOENIXFEAN thank you.. wishing yo
