Eddie Cantor was getting the feeling he was a bit trapped in this type of Goldwyn style production, he wanted to do more serious stuff, but never did. Still a nice film though!
How charming. I wish most people could still be entertained by two people on a Ferris wheel singing about how they want to grow old together. These two were perfect together!
"Strike Me Pink" WAS amusing, but it was "silly", and Eddie knew it. He kept pleading with Sam Goldwyn to feature him in a screenplay that wasn't a carbon copy of his earlier films, but Sam wouldn't tamper with a profitable "formula". That's why Cantor signed with 20th Century-Fox in 1937.
People got so used to Ethel Merman in her later days on
Broadway with her huge voice & larger-than-life persona
that they forget at one time she was CUTE!
What a lovely little number. Its nice to see even back then
city people longed to get out of the rat race & live on the
farm, (YES I know its just a song, but its true!).

Behold the expression on Cantor's face when he looks at Merman in this clip.
