Just wouldnt stand a chance against the IRA in real life. The best of the best in the British Army - the SAS couldnt stop them, sure as hell the spetsnaz would struggle.
I mean, there was the Warrenpoint Ambush, the M62 Coach bomb, The Corporal killings, The Aldershot bombings, The RFA Fort Victoria bombing, Ballygawley bus bombing, just to name a few.

The IRA fought both of them. It started as the Army, then when they got their asses handed to them over and over again, the British sent in the SAS to take members out, but even then the IRA kept moving forward and got stronger.
The IRA managed to outdo the British army, British intelligence in Ireland, and the SAS.
And in the end Britian's Government pretty much begged them to call a ceasefire.
Guerilla fighter tactics 1, Conventional army tactics 0.

The M4 is a carbine based on the M16 rifle. It was developed around 1994. The M4 is 3 round burst and M4A1 is full auto.

@baglezzz M4 and M16 are their military designations, AR15 civilian. AR15 can only fire .223. Military versions can fire 223 and 5.56x45mm NATO. Civilian can only fire semi-auto.
Don't know what props they used, but the show mentioned that they are using AR15s and not their military counterparts.
