  • Good movie, good cast, good opening scenes with the music. Takes me back to 1975 when I saw it in the theater when I was stationed in Little Creek, VA, good times and I had more hair and it was dark brown.

  • superb western.superb theme

  • I remember that movie from the VHS times, have seen it yesterday again. Such a fantastic thing. Mmm... I think I will call my next pet "Bronson". ^.^

  • The best movie, the best actor, the best sound track..no coment..

  • My favorite western film of all time! I watch it two or three times a year

  • Just watched this movie about 10 minutes ago on Western Channel. The final film for stuntman Yakima Canutt. Classic Bronson western fair.

  • I love this movie, Hollywood just does not make movies like they used too. These are movies I acually like too see. Everything else...

  • thugh it was fairly absurd to give jerry goldsmith fairly small credits , his should have owned the screen as much as 'Richard Crennas notice the producer had no problem giving himself a biggie yep underrated is an understatement here, even by his own kind

  • it may well be that most of the great movie scores were westerns Laura Vertigo

and some others were the exception but westerns brought out the best in the high class musical talent there was something about the expansiveness, the overreaching I am sure the theory is as full of holes as Jerry the Mouses favorite swiss cheese but that's my story and Im sticking to it

  • i wish they had the hold movie.its that kind of movie that don't go away to me.

  • @Ironhorse27 Are you from Lewiston? I'm kind of surprised that someone else knows where the movie was filmed at. I'm a Lewiston native as I was born and raised there. I was in my early teens when it was filmed in the mid 1970's.

  • Fort Humble is everywhere

Brekheard Pass = Point of no return

  • The fight on the train between Bronson and Archie Moore was awesome!

  • Much better flick than McLeans two wwII movies on Navaronne.

  • Loved the book read all the guys books first then watch the movies!

  • Cracking supporting cast and photography with a solid performance from Mr Bronson.

  • One of the finest "sundown" westerns---the genre fell from favor with the "new breed"

of Hollywood film-makers [*hawk-ptoo*], but not with audiences. An entire apparatus existed which made westerns possible, and it is now long-gone, as are *studio*-style movies.

This score is robust & muscular, easily Goldsmith's *best* western score, and he wrote some *boss* scores.

Westerns today [*ptoo*] are *model shoots* with *pretty-boys* who can't ride or shoot convincingly. Age of The Girly-Man.

  • @mhantholz Robust is right! It exudes masculinity! Jerry Goldsmith is one of my favorite composers!

  • Great classic movie. Bronson my late hero. Thanks for posting.

  • As Prospro8 correctly states, one can listen to this track endlessly, it is one of Goldsmith´s best efforts and thanx to LaLaLa-Land for putting this wonderful score on CD!!

    Great BRONSON-flick !!!!

  • God Bless You for uploading this maintitle! I'm very moved to see the intro to one of my childhoods favourite movies. I think I watched it for the first time when I was 7 or something. Still this is one of the best maintitles I know!

  • Last time I saw Breakheart Pass was when it originally screened. However, I knew there was something wrong with this version of the opening credits scene.

What we should hear is the chuffing of the locomotive, then the music starts WITH the continued engine chuffing in the background. The chuffing plays throughout the entire intro.

Also, right at the beginning of this piece, the first strain repeats before going on. In the movie, it does not.

  • your right

  • @GarySteinweg I'm positive I've heard that version too. like the locomotive sound is providing percusion to the music.

  • Great title.Thanks for sharing!

  • I listen this and I there in the West smelling the pine, Chaparrell, and seeing the blue sky and the endless land in front of me, Thanks!

  • I've loved that music intro from the first day it screened. In my retirement, I now drive a steam locomotive on weekends (Poway-Midland RR). Actually, I taught my daughter to engineer, and I'm now relegated to firing (I like firing more than engineering anyway). Look up the PMRR on youtube.

  • Eine Musik zum träumen, unverbesserlich...

  • I dream by it too. It's timeless, especially for railbuffs.

  • @ursus911 Genau, ausgezeichnet!

  • Goldsmith is excellent here. He's using a feel somewhere between Morricone and Elmer Bernstein on this one. It's a title (repeated in the Finale) that you can listen to endlessly and it never pales.

  • A classic western thriller with impeccably suave Charles Bronson, and Jerry Goldsmith's haunting score...thanks for the fond memories.

  • A Classic western written by a Scotsman :-)

  • This is one of the movies that old #75 starred in. It now under restoration at the Heber Valley railroad in here in Utah.

  • Great unsung western..best line from Ben Johnson.."I wont go to hell for not trying"

  • Great score and movie! Got the limited edition cd. Thanks from Israel.

  • A great theme. Jerry Goldsmith sounding a bit like Ennio Morricone.

  • Comment removed

  • who directed this movie

where on location was is it made

  • It was made on the Camas Prarie Railroad in Idaho. Most of where this film was shot the railroad is now abandoned.

  • awsome! one my favorite western themes

  • Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. It was a very good movie too.

  • Did you Charles Bronson who played Deacon died on August 30, 2003 from pneumonia while suffering from Alzheimer's disease at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA?

  • He has joined his beloved wife Jill Ireland.

  • I have a copy of this soundtrack. It's great isn't it.
