  • Why wasn't he talking like this 25 years ago

  • @SouthParkDEA Cosby was talking this stuff 25 years ago. His comedy and his TV show showed examples of what healthy families looked like, and how parents should take action when it came to teaching children responsibility and the importance of education. Now he's old and he can get on a mic and saw whatever he feels like. Most of it is truth.

  • only 188,000 views... Wow! compare this to the round guy singing "Numa Numa" ... or silly cat videos! We get the kind of government that we deserve because we do' care! If Mr. Cosby was railing against white folk then I bet there would be 1,000,000 views cause we need drama instead of responsibility - this number represents one million, but for you who can't read the word either then ask some one.

  • There has been debate about whether or not the AAVE should be considered an inferior dialect. Some say that African Americans and white Americans should embrace this language because to not do so means one social group is dominating another. What is English now? African Americans broke their backs building this country by hand, enduring incomprehensible suffering and oppression. Their language isn't valid? Let's ask ourselves why. Why can't a person speaking their dialect "get anywhere?"

  • Hes saying what most ( non ghetto educated ambitious) black people think but cannot say because of political correctness and fear of violence from the very people that he is describing.

  • Does anyone know where to find the full audio of this speech, not just this excerpt?

  • Whites are also suffering from gross anti-intellectualism... see evangelicals, MTV, etc...they just get away with it. "You know that George from Texas? Not much upstairs, no grammar whatsoever, but what a quirky, quaint accent! I'd like to have a beer with him and elect him president." Meanwhile Obama speaks stage-standard English at all functions, and he's still a Kenyan terrorist. I like to think I get both sides here: there's a self-inflicted element and an external element to this problem.

  • Kids, they listen to the rap music, which gives them the brain damage, with their hippin' and their hoppin' and their bippin' and their boppin', so they don't know what the jazz is all about! See, jazz is like a jello puddin pop, nah, actually it's more like Kodak film. No, it's like the New Coke, it will be around forever, huh-huh-huh.

  • If you criticize Clang in his speech then you totally missed the message. He is a true genius.

  • So what Cosby is saying in this speech is to pull up your pants, apply yourself to your academics and your job, raise your kids, and stop talking in ebonics.

  • I lived in a lot of black neighborhoods and I never once saw a white man dealing drugs to kids or shooting people over some dumb %&^.

Never understood how they could blame it all on white people when it was plain as day who was out there wrecking their homes and killing their kids.

  • @theshillelaghlaw ....Same here. I worked 2 years for a non-profit organazation on Chicago's west side. It was a discgrace to see people HATE each other, Killing one another, beating up one another, and such. I had a meeting with some of the younger members of the community and I said,,,,Whitey ain't coming in shooting and killing us here. It's being done here one to another. While they agreed with me NOTHING CHANGED. I never said anything more because I'm white. figured they call me racist.

  • @theshillelaghlaw just because you did not see it does not mean it did not exist. There are plenty of white people who are the head of the drug game and the killing. Although all you "saw were people of color" doing the crime does not mean the white people are not apart of it and not all black people are or want to be part of it!

  • thank god someone else finally said it

  • Does anyone know where I can listen to the entire speech. This is only a partial clip.

  • This is exactly why I enjoy listening to Bill Cosby, whether as a comedian or as a public speaker: he blends humor with, in more serious speeches such as this, hammering important points and messages home. God bless 'im!

  • he looks as if he's ready to shove his fist in a warm poundcake!

  • Remember, black people - there have been more slaves throughout history AND today owned by fellow black people than there EVER owned by white people.

  • Orangechapel,

So, how did we get to where there's a father epidemic in our country. I don't think it's just blacks but it's growing in other races too, whites, hispanics. Where did we get our father influences and values to being a father. I think music, friends, our fathers, culture and a ton of other things have an effect on us. What is the answer??? How do we get to a point to where families stay in tact, people work through dificulties and grow from that?

  • nah fuck this "The white man, he's laughing, got to be laughing. 50 percent drop out, rest of them in prison." yeah who the fuck made it that way? white people...

  • @Orangechapel Yeah, white's had slavery. Do you know who also were among those fighting and dying to end slavery? OTHER WHITE PEOPLE. You disgrace and blame people who fought for your ancestors. Get over yourself.

  • @Yalf111 Lol. im sorry to generalize as if all white people are to blame. It is undeniable the amount of wrongdoing the founders of our nation have caused. They created a society in favor of rich white landowning males. Now how could something so biased be considered democracy?..ahh whatever. i dont wanna vent but yeah white people fucked up in the past its no big deal really. We all make mistakes.

  • @Orangechapel Yeah, whites made some mistakes. They also made some brilliant things. Whites are raised to swallow that they're inherently evil almost. That they should pay for the 'sins of the father'. We are taught it is allowed to be racist against whites, but that whites must not even defend themselves because we deserve it. Objecting would be 'racism' and denying past mistakes by white people... We'll be a minority in 20 yrs anyway. Fact. Hope we get over self hate by then.

  • @Orangechapel Democracy as we know it started in ancient Greece, where it was the same system...landowning males. Very few of either the Greeks/Americans were "rich," and those that were got the same number of votes as the "poor" land owners. There's a reason you only let those people vote. They have something to lose if things go wrong.

  • its not about the white man being on top anymore, unplug from the matrix and step back, females are the new leisure class, due 2 countless weak unmoral mangina scum we have these days, women are the new white man, we build the playground for them and now we are in timeout, white man and black men need to unite so that we can get the natural order of things back, society has removed the father and made the man a irrelevant throwback, boys r drugged so that they are curbed away from there instinct

  • it all starts from home..children grow up to be who they r based on how their parents bring them up..parents and the society play an important role in shaping up a child..n educating ourselves is very impt.education is something permanent its yours it can never be taken away from u unlike money!..educate yurself..i agree wit the grt dr bill cosby i don think wat cosby said is wrong man..he is juz being truthful n truth hurts sometime tats all..its the fact accept it n work on it..period.

  • fo'sheezy ma'neezy me and my shortie might catch some breezy cuz it's the D-O-G-G in me ma'neezy me and my creweezy stay on point.

  • The black race is a (for lack of a better word) "self-hating" race. Blacks are deeply contemptuous of the black condition and of other blacks and of their own black selves. \\ It is a terrible spiritual sickness rotting away our souls. \\ And, we don't know what to do about it.

  • @afro747 You could start by knowing the vast majority of people will accept you as who you are, regardless of your colour. Actually I think people naturally look for excuses to 'glass-ceiling' themselves. I think the colour of your skin is as big, or as little a problem as you let it be.

  • (CONT)"for a hundred or a hundred and fifty years have gotten ahead of him. That doesn't help him at all. That only deepens his problem, his frustration, and almost his self- hatred. For the people who are that insensitive never stop to recognize the fact that no other ethnic group has been a slave on American soil."-MLK june 11,1968

  • (CONT)"Over and over again we hear that the Negro should lift himself by his own bootstraps. Then there are those who say over and over again, "Other ethnic groups did it; why don't you?" Now it doesn't help the Negro for unfeeling and insensitive people to say to him that he's been in this country more than 348 years and was brought here in chains, involuntarily, and yet people who have been here,"-MLK(CONT)

  • "Now there's another myth that I want to mention, because if we are going to have action programs that will prod the forces in power so that they will make the necessary concessions, we are going to have to understand why the forces in power need to be prodded. Now this leads me to say that we've got to get rid of the myth of over-exaggerating the bootstrap philosophy. By that I simply mean this:" -MLK June 11,1968(CONT)

  • Forgive me,the people(who can be nothing but black) calling Cosby an Uncle tom just don't want to hear the ugly truth about themselves and other niggers(I am black by the way). Before you jump down my throat I believe that there is a difference between black people and niggers, that is just how I see it, I'm sorry if I offend. Yes in the Civil Rights Era and before, black people's problems came from the outside in but now that those restraints are gone their problems are from the inside out.

  • HERE'S WHY UNCLE TOM IS FULL OF SHIT:

Almost every fifth Indian immigrant you see in America is a millionaire -- and they're far from perfect at enunciating the English language. Personally, I think there's TOO MANY blacks speaking English, because so many black people are TALKERS instead of doers. I'd like to see more blacks MAKING THINGS and BUILDING THINGS rather than talking about things they don't know -- which is what Bill Cosby is doing in this video.

  • NONE OF WHAT BILL COSBY SAID IS TRUE.

-- According to US Census Stats, people hookied school in the 1950s more than they do now (graduation rates were lower back then).

-- People aren't getting shot over pound cake and Coca Cola, they're getting shot because of gang culture and the crack cocaine economy (read the FBI crime reports).

-- It's MAINLY about money, and not snooping.

    ....and most important...

-- Black leaders are speaking TOO MUCH English, rather than building an economy.

  • BILL IS RIGHT

  • Copy and Paste until something happens:

NO MORE TALK! TIME FOR ACTION. LEADERS, COMMIT TO ONE ACTION TO IMPROVE THE LIFE FOR HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIMS NOW. PUBLICIZE IT SO OTHERS CAN HELP. NOW!!!

  • Cosby has a point. That is why I am in college working on my degree. I graduate in May 2012. I don't take Brown v Board of Education for granted. It is important for me to do get an education. That is why I speak proper English. I don't listen to most hip-hop. It is simply dysfunctional. People like Li'l Wayne are a disgrace to African-Americans. We need more people like Cornell West, Bill Cosby, Tavis Smily, Neil Degrasse Tyson, etc.

  • @evergreenstater You forgot Ben Carson ;)

  • @evergreenstater James Earl Jones...is pretty awesome too...and he had a speach impediment and still talks beautifully. You should watch the Mayor Nutter from Philidelphia. He puts it on the line too.

  • @evergreenstater As a Canadian I have to ask, why is it that blacks in the USA like Cornell West so much? He doesn't seem to have done all that much scholarship, and comes across as someone who has gained a reputation for telling black people what many of them want to hear, but in round about in fancy ways. Yet they seem to ignore someone like Thomas Sowell who by all measure a far more accomplished.

  • @evergreenstater BS. All popular music is dysfunctional, especially self-congratulating "patriotic" music of any sort. I like Lil' Wayne. Am I a disgrace to African-Americans? I'm white as they come, and more educated than most. I choose not to speak proper English, and to swear when I feel like it. This has not kept me out of gainful employment at reputable companies. Conformance and abandoning your heritage and affinities is not the key to equality. It is the key to subservience.

  • @evergreenstater are you disclosing that you are a member of the Boule Society just like all 4 of the men you mention are all members

  • 110% Real. Most of the people saying he's an Uncle Tom must be ignorant idiots. Most people in the NAACP spend too much time making every thing racial, instead of being real and focus on the deep problems of blacks. Every black person needs to hear this.....too bad most today are too ignorant to even comprehend what he's saying. But as long as other decent blacks do the best they can to help, then there may be hope. But then again, how do you help people who don't want to be helped?

  • billy cosby = uncle tom

  • @shotsky94 you have no clue what your talking about

  • @cminksful Fuck You!

  • @shotsky94 oh wow thats an intelligent come back

  • Cosby recognized the spiritual and moral crisis of Black America years ago and called it as he saw it. For his trouble he was villified as an Uncle Tom. He indicted the lack of reverence for education, lack of parental control, lack of upstanding role models in Black America. NAACP leader Ben Jealous never addresses these issues; his moral outrage is reserved for the Tea Party. Ben--the Tea Parties don't infiltrate black neighborhoods and steal all of the dictionaries and books.

  • i dont give a fuck what bill cosby said cuz the problem will still exist when bill cosbys dead

  • @Sp33dyMik3 very defeatist attitude. if no one rose up there would still be kings and queens and emperors and popes running the show. by learning you can choose. and by choosing you take control.

  • Bill's right. This is not a joke whatsoever. Their's kids out there dying. Infants getting hit with stray bullets in their own bedrooms. Its disgusting. I would love to see strong black men & women form vigilante groups and take back their neighborhoods. Approach the dealers on the corner and give them 1 hour to close shop or their dead.

  • @jerseyirish

ONE HOUR IS TOO MUCH TIME

  • Bill Cosby should be the head of the NAACP.

  • Bill is right. I disagree with the language part but everything is on point. Language ain't the problem it's blacks not having any economic foundation that can be passed to the next generation.

  • Hip hop... your McDonalds of music. Its glorified pop music for a 'black crowd'. Yet the listeners dont even hear what the fuck their hero's like 'Biggy' and '2Pac' represented. GOLD CHAINS, BIG CARS, BRANDED SHOES. Are you blind or just plain stupid. They are walking advertisements. They represent capitalism, commercialism and greed. The very thing that is killing the poor communities everywhere of every race and colour. This bullshit is killing a child's desire to learn. This is a stigma.

  • @shadowinthesystem Maybe BIG( whose wordplay and delivery I appreciated), but I never heard Tupac advertise any products in his music.

  • @SirManUp Im not disputing talent. Dont get that misunderstood. But Tupac did promote a lifestyle most of us dont have. He may not have mentioned Nike. But the gold chain is desirable. Whats the benefit of a gold chain when you cant pay for your Childs schooling or your struggling to buy food because of a corrupt system. The lifestyle represented by Tupac and others is that of desires and pleasures but even though he may have mentioned about a flawed system, he didn't promote education enough.

  • This is so obvious, its amazing how, one: people disagree and two: how people only just realise hes right. People always sacrifice themselves for the cause, any cause, whether white or black. There's always that time when people who are oppressed will fight for the future and not for themselves. But would we do it now? knowing that television, commercial media and commercialism are stunting the brain cells of every child. Parents dont teach the television does. And in today television IS SHIT

  • Where Cosby is wrong is at the end where he says "The white man, he's laughing, got to be laughing. 50 percent drop out, rest of them in prison."

I don't personally know of any white people who think that's even remotely amusing.

  • @jonewer The white people he is talking about are not white only in color. The white people he is talking about will destroy white people before they even touch a white person. Refer to Dick Gregory.

  • @Kingme300 and yet you categorize us all, perpetuating the atrocity committed against your for-fathers, deepening the devide MLK sought to close. my skin is white, i guess i should appollogize for this, my mother fled russia to keep me from having to live in the horrible oppression there and found freedom in Canada, my home. i wish peace and abundance upon my fellow man regardless of skin colour, i work with my hands for a living and yet i am evil and control .....

  • @Kingme300 .... and opress "your people", i put this in quotes because i hate this devide, this us and them. there is only we. i hear all the time how awful i am because of the colour of my skin from those who's for-fathers had to deal with the same thing, so i ask, have you learned nothing? i am told "they" cannot be racist because of the colour of "thier" skin. niether i, nor any of my blood have done anything to you, we are a poor slavic family, why do you hate me?

  • @jonewer

He meant a hypothetical white man, the kind that didn't want the blacks to succeed.

  • @jonewer that's because you don't "personally know of" the white ruling wealthy elite. Cosby isn't talking about the white family down the street, he's talking about the system and the plutocracy. try to see the big picture for god's sake.

  • @jonewer oh im real sure white people are sooo concerned about minorites in the US....

  • @jonewer then you don't really know any white people, you are probably their one black friend.

  • @wardoggwyllgi you may be right

  • @jonewer I know where Cosby is coming from, but I, too, don't believe that "white people are laughing". There are many whites that can't speak properly. Racism is alive and thriving in society. As a "white" person, I had the opportunity to educate myself on the history of African Americans. A truly amazing race that are responsible for almost every major invention of our country. Held back by the lack of the educational tools available to only white institutions. Cosby makes a compelling point.

  • similarly, in the american southwest a very strong resistance, both in and out of school, is exerted to the assimilation of english; it is regarded as an invasive language, rather than a critical tool in an english speaking nation...there is much ridiculous rhetoric regarding the "preservation" of a language that some english free hispanics actually expect me to learn..."nada?"...that's correct...none...we may call it "new mexico"...but this is taking things a bit too literally.

  • BILL ROCKS!!!!

  • TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!!!!!

  • I needed to hear this today.

  • I needed to hear this today.

  • Crosby's brimming with wisdom.

  • NONE OF WHAT BILL COSBY SAID IS TRUE.

  • @AnnoyingFacts

No shit less people graduated, you didn't have to have a degree to get most jobs back then.

  • I lived in LA for 20 years- left 18 years ago....

I still visit family, but JESUS!!! the mexicans and blacks are RUINING what was once a decent a livale place!

Good for Cosby...no if only the audience would take it seriously...

  • NONE OF WHAT BILL COSBY SAID IS TRUE.

  • @AnnoyingFacts I don't agree with your points except for the last one. Blacks do almost nothing to build a good economy in the ghetto. It is all about getting the government to build some housing project, school or center that will be trash in 10 years. Even most the little stores and restaurants, except for some bars, are run by Asian Muslims or Indians.

  • @DawnOfTheDead991

Why do you disagree with FBI Crime Reports and US Census Statistics?

  • Bill is right, you can't be a doctor with that CRAP comming out of your mouth!! wise up people teach your kids right...we have to take the neighbor hood back!! it's all in the house, it's not about money...

  • eat some jell-o pudding

  • This man speaks too much truth. Much MUCH respect.

  • Whats the point of Brown vs the board of education? Right on Bill!

  • I love Mr Cosby! I grew up watching Bill Cosby:Himself and the Cosby Show. Please don't stop speaking out. For all the successful, inteligent blacks out there, please grab a hold of this message, and muster up the courage to speak out as well. Only then will you begin to spark change. We would love to help, but because of my skin color I'm only allowed to say certain things.

  • It doesn't matter if what he said doesn't apply to EVERYBODY or EVERYTHING. What's wrong with dealing with the people and situations Mr. Cosby's speech does apply to? I remember when everybody was talking about this and all the backlash but nobody was willing to take an objective look at the problems he touched on.

  • The key to learning is repetition. "Nigga-Nigga fuck you, Bitch Bitch you too, Go rob a muthafucka, all you got is you" Hopefully these aren't anyone's real lyrics but, as an example, if you heard someone say this a thousand times, just like during hypnosis, it would hypnotize you. It would become engrained in your brain. NIGGANIGGA die, FUCKABITCH etc...Black men and women are under mass hypnosis. You cannot wake them up unless you know what's wrong.Change what is being heard on a public level.

  • @Satansoppressed I agree with you. And I'll take it a step further, by saying that Hip Hop Culture has "HOODWINKED" the black community. You ever notice how ALL of our worse behaviors are glamorized by mainstream mass media? Run by white people? Yes, mass hypnosis for sure. You are right on point with that one. Yet, if you try to warn some of these people of what you and I apparently already know, they usually blow us off. And sometimes they will call you a sellout. Or even cuss you out.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 That's because truth hurts. They'd rather be sold lies than given truth for free. It's just too much for some people. These Uncle Tom artists, who are the true sellouts, are relief for many people. Even though what's in the music is a LIE, they'd rather hear it, because what you and I are saying is just too stressful. Truth makes people worry. It bothers them. They just want to have fun while the entire race gets turned out.

  • @Satansoppressed Sad but true.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 Also, when you suddenly drop knowledge on stupid people you can expect them to reject that knowledge, simply because of the sudden manner in which it is given. You have to be tactful...basically, sneak knowledge up on people. For example, instead of just blatantly saying all the rappers in the game are sellouts, they don't care about you etc, you could say...I like artist "A" over artist "B" because artists "A" is more socially conscious. It may make the person loosen up.

  • @Satansoppressed You are right again. Because if you notice, SOME of our people (Blacks), have been so use to behaving with abnormal behavior, to the point where ANYTHING that halfway resembles sanity, quite literally scares the shit out of them. In fact, look at Bill Cosby's interview on "MEET THE PRESS". He is quoted in speaking about "People trying to make ABNORMAL behavior NORMAL. And that's insane." That's the hypnosis of Hip Hop culture for you.

  • @Satansoppressed Yes. Which is why I have rejected hip hop and many aspect of american culture.

  • @Satansoppressed try not to assume all hip-hop music is brain-washing garbage, even if most of it now is. dead prez and a good chunk of tupac songs are very thoughtful, very aware of the situation. i don't think telling people things are wrong is going to help anything though. people need to start showing each other what is right.

  • @LagMov Read all my responses if you haven't already. (I know it's like 4 days later.lol)

  • @Satansoppressed its not just blacks who are under the media mass hypnosis 95% of anyone who own a tv are, but you are a 100% right

  • @Satansoppressed the key to effective learning is the encouragement of critical thinking, the recognition that learning is bilateral, and pupil participation and influence in both the curriculum AND instruction.

  • @Satansoppressed thaaaaaaaaaaaaank you...FUCK*just gettin a lil emotional and tent to swear wen in that situation*

  • @Satansoppressed I love your comment

  • bill cosby is pathetic

  • Amen, Bill Cosby

  • In Cosby's generation, women had fewer job opportunities so it was practical for them to have sex IN wedlock because all they had to do was wait to get married straight out of high school at 18. But women are holding off marriage for their careers. They aren't going to wait to have sex at 35. Oh and...today girls ARE ashamed of pregnancy. But they don't go South. They go to a clinic. Something Cosby doesn't consider due to his male privilege, and because Roe v. Wade didn't occur in his teen era.

  • Cosby's generation whines about immorality because they never had to test their principles like we do. Their women didn't have access to the pill or advanced contraception so of course they were waiting to have sex later if they wanted to work, not out of purity, but out of practicality. They did not have control over their bodies so if they were using contraception, they had to rely on men. And if he poked a hole in it, or if it slipped the risk to job opportunities was devastating.

  • i couldn't agree more

  • Bill is being kinda of a cranky old man about this one. Every generation has its own vernacular, People born in the 1890's & 1910's often said that his generation couldn't speak English either.

  • Of course Bill Cosby criticizes African American English. He's not a professional linguist. Every linguist will tell you that AAE is a valid dialect with it's own internal logic and can express complex ideas. That is the truth.

  • @Guthrie7777 that is utter nonsense. African American kids didn't start talking like nationwide until it became cool through music and video. No one said it can't express ideas, but to think you can speak AAE and get a real job with a future in the United States is ridiculous. That is the point. And criticism of any black who "speaks white" just keeps the whole race down.

  • @jefffawcett

Except that we have records of AAE since colonial times. Its a dialect that's over 400 years old. Dialects are carried on through the children. And who's fault is it that the dialect is considered inferior? The people who speak it? Certainly not. Blacks can "speak white" (SE, but most whites don't speak it) if they want, but AAE is just as valid. In fact, AAE expresses 6 different tenses of time, while SE can only express 4. I'd advise you consult a linguistics textbook.

  • @Guthrie7777 Allow me to correct myself: AAE actually has 6 tenses not found in other dialects at all.

  • @jefffawcett

Actually some do. In fact there was a documentary awhile back I watched on inner cities. The dialect was so different that they actually had to use subtitles. It's not just a "trying to be hood" thing. That's for suburban posers.

  • @jefffawcett

For all that "talking white" many of them lack common sense. They lack a different kind of education blacks value, and Bill is a stunning example. How is "speech" making you college ready when your books are so old they don't even touch on the fall of Soviet Russia? 75% of kids in NYC aren't college ready. 10% of the black population is in NYC. What about all the kids whose parents are being jailed for sending them to better quality (usually whiter) schools out of their district?

  • @Ilumiae name examples of black parents being sent to jail for sending their children to "whiter" schools? All of what you said in that comment, from your assumptions to your opinionated and possibly made up statistics, is the work of pure ignorance.

  • @generosos87 Kelley Williams-Bolar is actually a pretty recent example of a black mother who wanted to send her kids to a safer school that was mostly white and got jail time.

  • @MikoDollie I understand the woman's desperation, but thats a rather poor example. I recall a similar instance for a white person. Point blank, she lied about her residency to get her kids into school, and thats against the law. Idk how much jail time she is serving, but knowing the criminal justice system shell get more time than deserved. It's not a black or white thing, its a fucked up judicial system thing.

  • @generosos87 You asked to name an example of a black woman in the news going to jail to send her children to a school in a district that's predominantly white. I gave you one, and now you're saying that giving you an example of a black woman going to jail for this not a good example because a white woman also was given jail time for a similar offense. In any case, it's been stated Bolar was given a heavy offense to make her an "example." So much for blacks bypassing institutionalized racism.

  • @MikoDollie Yeah, and my friend was made an "example" of too. I can show you many unfair sentences given to WHITE people, and if you would like sources I can provide them. Stop excusing nigger behavior, if you will pardon the slur, I normally dont like using that term, but the people I refer to with that word I dont consider blacks, I consider them a disgrace to blacks and all their past achievements.

  • @generosos87 You're not understanding the point. Don't *ask* for something and then say it's insufficient in proving anything because white people go to jail for the same thing. Yes, white people are given unfair sentences, but that doesn't mean institutionalized racism doesn't exist, either. Nor would I even need this particular case to illustrate it. I only provided it to you because *you* asked for it.

  • @MikoDollie I'm more than positive that in some areas (Mississippi as an obvious example) quote unquote "Institutionalized racism" is very prevalent. However, this does not mean it is by proxy a huge systematic problem facing blacks in this country. We are all equally seen as worthless in the eyes of the system, blacks, whites, mexicans, jews, it doesnt matter, all are expendable and can be used. This is the point I was trying to make.

  • @generosos87 We are not seen equally as worthless. Blacks are still valued less in this society as whites. The very nature of complaining about AAE, which has developed with blacks since blacks got here, is a reflection of a continuous racial bigotry towards blacks in institutions like school. White standard English doesn't face this. When blacks are 50% less likely to get hired than whites for just having a black name, I don't buy that institutions see them as equals.

  • @MikoDollie Is it the fact they have a black name, or the fact they have an unusual name? LaDonte Delafrande would have a harder time getting a job than, say, Jon Brown. I have seen this among many employers. Many foreigners with names deemed as odd have a harder time getting a job than people with a more "american" sounding name. It is unfair, but thats the business world for you.

  • @generosos87 Then it should be changed, not tolerated. You are missing the point entirely. You said we are all considered equally by institutions, when that is clearly not the case. Also, how do you also explain that white felons...FELONS are likelier to find employment in low wage professions than than a blacks with similar education and no criminal history? How do explain how even when factoring in legitimate underwriting practices, blacks were likelier than whites to be given subprime loans?

  • @MikoDollie I doubt that heavily. That makes absolutely no sense. Especially considering the fact, and I provide a SOURCE for this if you like, that black med school applicants who score a mid level result on their MCAT are 7x more likely to be accepted into med school than whites, and 3x more likely to be accepted than asians who had the same results. It isnt a coincidence, its a racial advantage. If you can provide a legitimate source for that claim, I'll believe it

  • @generosos87 This probably has to do with things like AA, which is losing momentum throughout the country and may very well die out in the next few decades altogether. But again I said low wage jobs. These are the sort of things young adults use to help themselves get through things like college college and to live independently.

  • @MikoDollie The fact you cannot "get a job" speaking AAE is a reflection on institutionalized racism. It does not mean AAE is factually bad. Simply that those with power are not being challenged to become more tolerant.

  • @Ilumiae Kids in china have to share desk and old books--they still outperform American blacks. I'm tired of this old text book crap. The math, science, and physics you learn in high school hasn't changed that much. For example the geometry they teach in high school is exactly the one the Greeks invented 2000 years ago. Old books is just another excuse for black underperformance. Listen to Cosby and man up. The book can be 100 years old--all you need is a desire to learn.

  • @smokinokun87

Blacks are living in areas providing a watered down curriculum and are being allowed to graduate. They don't think there's a problem until they go to college because they're being given grades to go and aren't being given a rigorous education. Even Oprah covered this. We see increased rates of high school completion and college enrollment, but not college completion. In New York for example where 10% of blacks live, 75% of kids aren't passing tests that measure college readiness.

  • @MikoDollie Blacks and Latinos are more likely to get teachers that neither major nor minor in what they study as well. It's not just an issue of text books.

  • @jefffawcett So instead of changing the system to be tolerant of AAE, white American ethnocentrics should continue to impose (their) cultural hegemony while boasting to the world how "diverse" and "tolerant" we are? No. African American kids didn't start talking AAE when it became "cool." There is slang like adding the -zy and stuff at the end that but rappers got their form of speech from AAE. White American ethnocentrics have belittled AAE since the day of minstrels, its not new phenomenon.

  • @MikoDollie I work with 20 African Americans here in NYC, NONE of them speak "AAE." None of my black friends in college did either. They are all successful and have good careers. They would all LAUGH at your notion that they or any of their relatives ever spoke AAE, at least among the last couple generations. Thinking the rest of the world should change is ludicrous and any parent who allows their kid to speak that way is dooming them to a life of mediocrity, THAT is a fact of life.

  • @jefffawcett And again that "fact" of life should change. I don't care if you have African American friends who don't speak AAE. Just because a person is from a certain ethnic group doesn't mean they have to speak in a way that's common to that group. But it doesn't make AAE "bad" simply because some families have abandoned it, often to secure material gain. The world should change because the notion AAE is even "bad" is based purely on ethnocentrism. -cont'd-

  • @MikoDollie The notion that "ebonics", and I will call it ebonics, is bad has nothing to do with enthnocentrism. Ebonics is a bastardization of the English language, and should not be tolerated. I harbor no tolerance for ebonics, in much the same way i harbor no tolerance towards redneck backwoods hillbilly language. Slang is one thing, but to utterly destroy words and sound like trash is intolerable, period

  • @generosos87 this being said, I have no problem with black slang words, southern slang words, nothern slang words, etc. I have no problem with a "blackcent", a northern accent, a southern accent, etc. But, using proper english is a standard that all americans must adhere to in order to be percieved as reliable. Neither the redneck nor the thug will succeed speaking they garbage they speak, simple

  • @generosos87 Except white (standard) American English isn't "proper" English. It is simply the norm for how they talk--and probably in specific regions too no less.

  • @MikoDollie So your telling me annunciation of words and speaking like you have some semblance of intellect is a white thing? Who's the racist now?

  • @generosos87 You are. You're assuming to speak AAE is to speak without intellect. I do not hold this perspective at all. Therefore it wouldn't matter who was speaking AAE and who was speaking standard white American English. Both could speak with a "semblance of intellect" as far as I'm concerned.

  • @MikoDollie I dont consider the usage of the words "dude", "Dawg", "homie", "cat" or whatever to be AAE. You and I seem to have different views on ebonics. To me, ebonics sounds like gutter talk. I cannot understand it half the time. "Ey mayun, yo sheet iz nice, lemme git a grab at dat pusseh yo gurl got. Heyel yeeuh, gimme sum dap bro, wut yo nayum iz?"

I refuse to condone a type of speech where the speaker sounds as though his mouth is half numb and his brain is half working, I'm sorry

  • @generosos87 "dude" "dawg" "homie" etc is slang African Americans can use, but it's not AAE. Someone speaking Standard white American English can also say these slang words. You've not really answered why it sounds (to you) like only half the brain is working.

  • @generosos87 You should visit rural Virginia and listen to some of these white guys talk. The guy down the street from me comes from Isle of Wight Co. and he's always talkin about how those "sumbitches don't care 'bout nobody'. Or " dat damn gal dere musta' thawt I wuzza damn fool I reckin". It's a Southern thing. Trust me

  • @SirManUp And I consider that to be garbage the same as ebonics.

  • @SirManUp

Those are rednecks IE the white equivalent of "niggas". And they are ignant and dumb too. Don't mean you should want to be like that, or it is ok to be like that.

BTW I think most people, including white people, look down on trailer trash. At least the trailer trash isn't blaming the media, government, etc..... and when they do blame someone like Mexicans we know they are idiots and it's ok to say. Versus the PC coverup and race card that Bill Cosby is trashing.

  • @generosos87 And why is AAE a "bastardization" of the English language?

  • Bill Cosby is a Very funny fellow! RIGHT!!!!

  • Read the book "Is Bill Cosby Right" by Michael Eric Dyson. I was on Cosby's side until I started reading the book and realized that Cosby refused to talk about what black people were going through and what their lifestyle was when it was important during the civil rights era, in his tv roles, standup, and even in the Cosby show and now suddenly he sees himself as a representative of blacks and is trying to put down poor blacks to make himself feel better about himself.

  • @101feven101 Dyson's book sounded like more excuses for why Black people won't step up and make something of themselves. Just more excuses for the high poverty and crime rate. Its time for a change.

  • @IMPALEXANDERAVG It's more reasons than excuses.... The schools need to improve for a real change.

  • "Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12?"

  • No, I don't think it will work or lead to success if everyone (people like yourself) just go off & start living a selfish or self-centered life. People need to learn & understand to have both empathy & compassion. Dr. King believed in the life of a movement; the life of a people who cared for each other & who helped to advanced each other. We can't forget the sacrifices & greatness of all the people who died for us- King said WE as a PEOPLE will get to the Promise Land.

  • @shieldsff Dr. King was no doubt a patriot, but mostly overlooked, was the philosophy of Malcolm X, "By any means necessary". That individualistic spirit, self-reliance, and entrepreneurial spirit, these are true black values not dependency, not victim-hood. Did Harriet Tubman or Rosa Parks wait for the government to take up their cause? No, they knew what was right, the dreams God put in their hearts & they pursued them.

  • @BlackRepublican2010 People like rosa parks were fighting to get the govt more invovlved in blacks lives not get the govt out.

  • u know its easy to hop on the band waggin and agree and put black down for their problems, and i admit i 100% percent agree with every word in this speech, but dont sit here and type like ur race has done no wrong, no race is better than the other and in the end we are all stuck here on this shit hole together, people can talk so tuff and pull up facts to support their theory that they post on a website to cover up theyre really a racist, every race points the finger and all have 3 pointing back

  • Bill Cosby speaks the truth.

Black people need to get their shit together or move the fuck back to Africa!

  • he right and everybody know it so many ppl have died in vain kuz we rather go backwards than forward my get beat hung shot just for and education when in the world we live in now kids would rather skip class cant read write or count but know every rap song and im speakin now as 1 of those kids back then i knw better now so i do better and i got kids

  • lol where do you get your statistics from? Blacks have the highest percentage of crime and incarceration of any race in America. It is refreshing to hear a black man (Bill Cosby) admit that black people need to be responsible like everyone else. Stop blaming white people and making excuses.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAllabaster they also have the highest percentage of poverty, and unlike the civilised countries, America doesn't see fit to provide for it's poor and unfortunate. And even poor whites are more likely to have a much easier life, and much more security than poor blacks. Not to mention more chance of social mobility (still pitifully low, however: your country is a shit-hole).

  • Comment removed

  • @LaTP31 Your 3% is not an accurate statistic pal, sorry to inform you. Any proven study shows that around 1 out of 3 to 1 out of 4 black men in America are incarcerated or HAVE BEEN incarcerated at some point in their life. Thats a fact.

  • Comment removed

  • @LaTP31 Did I say white people don't commit crimes? No dipshit, all I said was that your 3% statistic is completely made up, and provided you with ACTUAL statistics of black crime rates..Take responsibility for your own actions and maybe stop raising your children to blame 'whitey' for everything...Oh wait, black men would actually have to RAISE their children in the first place to do that. Black men are born with more opportunity than ANY other race in this country, stop squandering it.

  • @1985nyg The info I gave is correct. My information is based on real numbers: total black population in prison in regards to total black population. Simple fraction to give a simple percent. I also invite you to read Tim Wise (he's a white guy, so I don't think you will have a problem with his findings). Do your own research - tell the world what you find. I am not afraid - I have an open mind. You ARE afraid. We as a community are not what you think - and it scares you.
