  • Paladino is so chill haha

  • I did'nt know him... Is a fucking genius!!! great voice and all!!

  • I think the John Mayer Trio is my favorite part of his career. Everything is just so tight with only three musicians......three excellent musicians. No matter how much you may hate Mayer, the fact remains that he is an excellent guitarist.

  • his voice is awesome...

  • wooohoooo....fuckin' funky!!

  • I saw this once before and couldn't stop playing it, and ever since then I've tried to find it. I can see why. The trio is so great together; they're the best.

  • tightest rhythmsection since chad n flea!

  • I might get hate for this,

But Charlie Hunter would be INCREDIBLE in the official trio, not saying that Pino's a bad guitarist(He's freakin AWESOME), just the 7 string sounds so cool, haha.

  • damned kick drum is obliterating pino :(

  • Orgasm!

  • it's in the key of AWESOME!

  • WHat thing he did on 0:07 ?

  • @josephkallifffraude Looks like a harmonic at the 12th fret followed by a strum behind the nut.

  • @gabegambino Oh, ok thanks =) !

  • @gabegambino I'm not sure about that-- I think he might be tightening off a herniated 9-cut behind the fall at the dyptic fourth, but then again the strunts look pretty eggy so maybe he's just bruising the nun right inside the pillbox. Either way, he's sure putting some butter on the orphan here. And I think that might be a guitar he's playing.

  • @thighmister one thing's for sure, he's putting the ham in the bread basket.

  • @gabegambino i'd like to put my ham in his bread basket.

  • @thighmister lol

  • I think he uses the Boss blues driver in this song !

  • the drum beats made this less like a typical blues song which is a good thing. steve jordan = amazing drummer!

  • Feel like i just walked intto a garden shed with 3 friends jammin and they turn out to be God's. So casually brilliant!!

  • try playing the guitar part and singing that line very serious coordination required

  • @rjinterr

    Not impossible though ;-)

  • @rjinterr if you practice it, its easy:)

  • 0:06 ◄---John Mayer Official Login.

  • I love how the top rated comments are about Pino and Steve respectively, and not John himself - it shows the amount of talent in this trio and the amount of space John gives the other guys to be as much of who they are as they can. I really love this combination and hope for even better things to come!

  • songs so raw

  • He never fails to play from his soul. Whether live or studio versions. Perfection everytime. I don't think we'll see another John Clayton Mayer for a long time to come after he is gone. Until then, play on John. Play on.

  • Was the theme for this performance to make your hair look as gay as possible cause John and Steve Jordan really gay'ed it up

  • @Danklin24 maybe instead of being a fag yourself and commenting on how their hair looks, you should sit back and listen to the mesmerizing blues.

  • @Danklin24 lol u mad?

  • I love how he's living his Cream/SRV/Hendrix fantasy, while at the same time playing original songs. Most people would just play straight covers, but I'm glad this band does Mayer originals, they sound real good.

  • Its pretty clear why most dudes have a problem with John Mayer. They're jealous. Hell, who isn't? The guy is a guitar-god and somehow finds that balance between complete sappy emoreject and over the top. If you separate yourself from that, he's a fantastic musician and that's it.

  • It's A minor fools. He switches up the 7ths as he feels.

  • @ASLint : I believe the song is in D major, the chords are A7, F#m, G second part is F#m, Em7

    Dmajor in thirds= D, Em, F#m, G, A, Bm, C#half dim, D

Solo try D major starting on A (Mixolydian mode)

  • It is a well-known fact, and freely admitted to in the Blues world, that licks are borrowed, recycled, and just plain "ripped off." If you think this is an SRV rip-off then listen to Hendrix. If you want to know where Hendrix's influence was, listen to Albert King. Look up Billy Gibbons interviews/lessons and see how he gives credit to different players for different licks. A Strat has a distinct sound, but especially through amps with 6L6 and 6V6 power sections. It sounds like it does.

  • Well it's easy to hate on Mayer. He's had his craft heard by millions , plays to packed venues all over the world and he's fucking women that all these losers sit at home and jack off to. I think John is a little more content with life than a bunch of never was's sitting on a computer flaming his youtube videos. They hate John cause they're jealous. They probably don't even know what fucking key this song is in

  • @myjsallday44 Well put.

  • @myjsallday44 Well said. Though he did say in an interview that he doesn't fuck groupies or something, because it didn't feel right after he did it two or three times or something like that. And it's in the key of A. I'm just sayin', y'know? :P

  • @didierleclaire It's got a G note in it! so obv not in A major!

  • @scudderforthewin Yeah, I spoke before I thought. It's A mixolydian, not major. It's a major dominant scale, that's wh I mixed it up. Soz.

  • @RRGJL ah no worries :) trying to learn the bass and A major didn't ft

  • @myjsallday44 i didnt know that i had to know what key it was in to enjoy the music?

  • @darrenskate he's talking about the people that are hating on him, not fans

  • @myjsallday44 a:P

  • @myjsallday44 sounds like G#. Hope that gets me laid.

  • @colemanthesoulman It's A minor. it starts on the 5th fret of the E string and then he is play alot of 7th notes. If it was G# minor, it would be on the 4th fret..

  • @MrJonnyspike He might tune down a half-step like one of his heros: SRV

  • @colemanthesoulman Possibly. and I agree cause SRV did that. but in the vid he is playing at the 5th fret. but when I play at the 5th fret along with the it, it's in the same key lol

  • @MrJonnyspike oic. I must have perfect 1b-pitch.

  • People love to hate john mayer but any remotely proficient guitarist knows that he is the real deal

  • mayer plays so clean no matter how fast he plays..that amazes me..so does his playing.

  • amazing intro, licks and tone!! also, he has great technique to play with fingers and pic when needed... he knows what he is doing... I think he is really underated as a guitar player.

  • i didn't know john mayer had this in him...all i knew were the radio hits, which aren't my cup of tea. he has great tone and rhythm on guitar...i might investigate his discography a little more beyond passing judgment.

  • I don't like all of John's lovey dobbey pop songs but I like this! This is a blues song! His voice sounds like a softer SRV!

  • I want a jimi guitar tooo!!!!!!

  • @MrWooshRadio is that a jimi hendrix tribute???

  • I love the jazz influence of Trio. My 19yo daughter loves the pop of JM.

The point is, we share *something*, and that something is ever so sweet.

  • @ktward61 its shere blues dude..

  • @FreaquedeMusique

    You mean "Sheer blues"?

You're absolutely correct, though. Trio is blues, not jazz. A term oversight on my part-- the downside of quickly penned YT comments by old peeps with broad musical tastes, like myself.

  • @ktward61 I know what you mean, except for Im actually not old at all, unless you concider 14 as old haha!

But I think that it's cool that even people that are a little bit older than me still enjoy Mayer as much as I do!

  • all artists are thieves plain and simple.

so whats the point in fighting about it.

just listen to what you enjoy listening to, play the music that comes out.

    thats what makes true artists

  • I think you are a fantabulous being that was shared with me on a Saturday by a most magnificent Being. :-))))) Yep!!! Two greats you and "B." ;-) Lovely and enjoyable brought Love right to my Soul. ;-))))<3<3<3

  • The kid plays with guys like Clapton, Buddy Guy and Steve Winwood. Do you really think somebody can have any kind of oppurtunity to do that on a regular basis if they were mediocre?

I John Mayer's personality and ego as much as the next guy, but he can play. He makes it look easy too. And he doesn't sell out... he plays whatever the hell he feels like. I bet you get bored listening to the the same style over and over (I know real musicians do) so why wouldn't you get bored playing it?

  • @BoredInRuston If they're famous? Yes, they can.

He was a nobody till his pop career took off.

You think guys like Buddy and Clapton aren't cashing in on that?

Getting themselves out to a brand new audience?

(Why do you think he wasn't known to anyone when he was just doing blues, then hits the pop charts and WHAM. Suddenly he's a guitar hero?)

  • SAW HIM DO THIS ON HIS OWN IN LONDON! he said it was a third of the john mayer trio, sooooo good!

  • steve jordan should and could do more to fill it up his way, that's it

    hope he will

  • You can dislike someone as a person and still like their music....I like his music...Don't really know about him......from what I've read...I don't like him much, but he sure does some good music.

  • Im not a big fan of John Mayer.. but I like this band

  • can someone please send me a link to the music video of this song it seems it's been removed from youtube???? why it's got the best solo in it!!!

  • this performance has the best solo I've ever heard from this song.

  • very cool...

  • there's a MUCH better live version of this you can watch. just search for Pino Palladino (on YouTube) and it should be the first one. it's from the Where The Light Is DVD. it's effing amazing.

  • ooh not to bad my guitar teacher told me about this one, i watched it and now its very cool to improvise with it

  • Pino, baby!

  • I love listening to john but man I hate looking at his face when he sings.. I probably would never go to a concert but I will buy his albums..

  • @anico21 Dude you don't go to a concert to see what faces the singer does. And to me, theese faces he's doing while he sings just add a little something.

  • i would suggest you go to one of his concerts. they are amazing. hes amazing live. :)

  • @not12stare Totally. It really isn't the same thing live. It's like a thousand times better.

  • Ahahahah would never go to a concert??

  • well you'd be lucky to even see his face as you would be all in front ;)

  • ur missin out then, the guy puts on one hell of a show

  • hahahahahahah

  • i dont think its hendrix or srv like...reminds me of a white man singing robert cray style

  • Fenomenal!!

    John Arrasa!!!

    E que banda é essa??

    Demais!!

  • well it has the typical strat sound. you can think thats kinda like the srv sound. maybe this dude mend that.

    cheers

  • the song really doesn't sound SRV but his voice reminds me a lot

  • This song sounds nothing like SRV.

  • Sounds more like Hendrix to me.

  • This is a typical wink to hendrixvaughan, gotta love it!

Nice N Freaky funkblueslicks goin on'!

  • Sounds like SRV!

  • @elvis76

I thought the same..but the guitar style is more like hendrix but at times his voice sounds like SRV

  • Comment removed

  • probably most talented trio i've ever seen

  • srv and double trouble?

  • i dont know man. they were amazing, but steve jordan and pino palladino are freakin beasts. they're pretty close

  • can anyone tell me where i can find that exact strat with design and everything? - would be much appreciated!

  • google it :)

  • search for monterey stratocaster. THere is one on ebay now for $18,000.

  • @crunchiemunchie1 its a hendrix strat montrey i think!! they dont mass produce it dude!! if they did id have 1 too man!!

  • @crunchiemunchie1

I think that's almost impossible. I'm not very sure, but I thought it was his own body design. So I think an exact strat is hard to find.

  • @Harryboy93 Actually it's a replica of the strat Hendrix used at Monterey Pop festival, you can buy them though they cost a good few grand.

  • its a remake of the Strat Hendrix used at the Monterey Pop Festival. I dont think they make them anymore, it was a limited edititon a few years ago....but just search for Monterey Stratocaster and you might find something

  • everyone in this trio are monsters in their respective instrument, I'm really impressed

  • This is the first time i've heard this song but you can really hear the Stevie coming out in John Mayer here. John is my favorite new guitarist. But the best guitarist ever is Stevie Ray Vaughan!

  • hes definitely a gun.

  • best guitarist ever!!!

  • Complete and total fallacy.

  • If you wanna hear a great blues album check out White Sugar by Joanne Shaw Taylor, she is brilliant!

  • YOU GOT THAT RIGHT MATE =)

  • its a boring album after the 3rd song, the john mayer trio is amazing! JST is great but not so great live

  • short hair! :)

  • i can't decide if i love the long hair or the new short hair.....and i think he was a voice and hands kissed my angels...he just brilliant...

  • STEVE JORDAN YEAH!

  • idk really care about anyone stand on mayer hes great but haha. u first say gfire is stating only and opinion when u do the same exact thing? kinda funny. only fact is the qoute of jm at the end. o and if ur gonna put qoutation marks on the first statement on gfire put it on the john mayer qoute to. no need to be smart ass

  • i love the bassist

  • its pino palladino.. hes a living legend

  • i agree. i guess what i shoudlve said is... john mayer is an master of guitar and he can play whatever the hell he wants. :)

  • The cool thing about him is that he only gets better...

i saw him at the troubadour about three weeks ago with the trio and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to..!

  • its kinda funny how controversial john mayer is as a musician. i didnt like him much at first either, but even the original blues artists from the golden era of blues in the 1920's played pop music because it was popular. The fact is there are very few musical purists because these guys are professional musicians and they play whats popular.

  • john mayer is one of my fav. because of his pop and blues playing is there a problem with that??

  • no prob at all i agree with ya

  • @srvanjoy and he pays homage to Hendrix and Clapton!! what more could u ask 4?!

  • @bamwow09

For him to pay homage to the real greats like Buddy Guy and Freddie King etc, who Hendrix and Clapton stole all their licks from? o:

  • @JilaX if Hendirx isn't a "real great" then I cant continue this conversation. Otherwise, yeah I agree

  • @bamwow09 Well, concidering how he got a lot of his playing and all his stage moves (except the guitar burning) from Buddy Guy, (who in turn got a lot from Guitar Slim) and a lot of his experimental sounds were done by Buddy (feedback) and Jeff Beck in the Yardbirds.

Well. I'd simple have to say that despite him being awesome, he's not necessarily as much of a great as people consider him.

  • @JilaX well you're obviously deaf. You see how Vaughn, even Beck, the Who's guitarist, Guy, BB King all talk about him. I know you see the interviews. But you obviously don't listen to him, so I excuse you...

  • @srvanjoy Absolutely , John Mayer can play anything and it never sounds artificial . Although I like his classic blues playing a lot more , of course ;-)

  • I think it's funny how people who hate John take their sweet time to watch a video of him and leave a ratty comment. The guys talented. He can play any genre, they're like emotions for him, they come and go and he rocks his favorite ones. Cool intro. Great solo. Awesome group of guys.

  • I wouldn't go as far as to say every genre, but he loves what he's doing, and that's all that matters. :P

  • @bluesyjazzcat31 We don't watch the whole video. I watch as much as I can, because I desperately want to prove myself wrong. But I don't hate JM, I dread him. He is living my nightmare, accepting praise for mediocrity. It would be like if McDonalds forgot they were McDonalds and started thinking they were a gourmet restaurant.. you would feel really embarrassed for McDonalds. and hope that they might never realize how stupid they are making themselves look.

  • @korgri and we're watching him become a platinum artist and make more money than you can even imagine. If i could be mediocre and make that much money I'd take it! Can you do anything as well as he can play the guitar?

  • @baherrin Well, you've got the mediocre sensibility down.. now all you need is a management team like Mayer's. Yeah, it really takes a lot to be a platinum artist, ask Britney Spears. Barney the Dinosaur probably sells over a million records, if so then he's also a platinum artist. Little kids love him. Yes, I can, actually. But I choose to emulate Eric Clapton's ethic, who when offered a ton of money to go pop went and got a construction job instead.

  • @bluesyjazzcat31 ---- never said any better .....his talent totally outways any mistakes he has made with his mouth i love this guy

  • @bluesyjazzcat31 Exactly!

  • @bluesyjazzcat31 i think most people hate the image he came out with at first and havent given him another chance. music or no music.

  • people really need to hate on this guy. he is such a multi talent, he even has amazing rap and hip hop beats. he is hell of a guitarist and is able to play such a wide variety of music. JMT is amazing. i hope they stick around for more and actually produce an album besides Try!

  • I think if he didn't start out as pop, he'd probably be respected more.

  • Yeah, but I doubt he'd be as "known". There's so much more fans of pop than there is the blues.

  • maybe there's the blues inside them they didn't know of... oh well but then again there is no blues with girls showing their tits in concert or throwing panties at the stage XD anyways i heard that in his concert there are more female than the opposite gender of thesame species

  • @Brandykins1982 to be fair, it's quite smart how he's used his success with the pop stuff to show of his blues playing too. And to be honest, I'd say all of his work is worth a listen to, Body is a Wonderland is the only song of his that I'd actually single out as pop. The rest of his work is very much guitar-based music.

  • i would love to play with that drummer wwooow

  • yeah steve jordan is amazing

  • Its not even about looking at his past

if anyone knew anything about guitar, you would know that he is one of the greatest guitaarist of all time...ONE of..

    hes genius at both

  • i think in the same way

  • Comment removed

  • I like prettt much of evrything when it comes to music. and, he was a damn good pop musician.

there is no resend to talk shit about him because he was a pop musician, 'couse he was a good popp musician, he made the music he wanned to make.

  • Even as a pop singer-songwriter... You got a sense of his guitar talent on Neon; No Such Thing is a perfect pop song; 3x5 is surprisingly deep.

But yeah if you missed JM's blues concert with Buddy Guy, Try! must seem like Clark Kent coming out of a phone booth as Superman!!!

  • thats one nice comparison you have their sir!... nice one... you really said

JM and JM3 the beesssssstttttt(of this generation)

  • His tone is soooooooo AWESOME!!!!!

  • those are the sound of his big dipper pickups, and his two rock amp

  • the monterey pop strat dont have big dipper pups...

  • ...how the hell are you suppose to play this song on guitar? without a pick
