It is strange, but the speaker sounds similar to a recent winner tof the Tour of California, but surely that can't be since he rides for a non Garmin team (names were deleted to protect the innocent?).
By the way... I've used my Etrex Vista for similar uses and I found its speed to be more accurate than the normal speedometer.
garmin suxs... i had a 305 and the USB port make the device shutdown... only replacing the device to fix it. Maybe all EDGE´s device have the same issue. Carefull
Do NOT buy the Edge 705, while it has many features the unit is critically flawed with bugs galore! I have one, I ride the same route yet each ride the distance varies substantially due to GPS inaccuracy. The unit goes into auto-pause, records false max-speeds, inconsistent total ascent, etc. They never got the bugs out; DO NOT BUY THIS THING. Instead buy a separate odo/speed with integrated calories and then a separate GPS. Even with the latest software version the 705 is a costly piece of junk
Thanks for the info. I just went to BestBuy to order one earlier today! I will return tomorrow and try the 305 instead. I was a bit worried about spending that much on a unit without getting a little feedback on another user! Thanks.
Garmin said they had new "firmware" and a new software version coming-out...but I've not heard anything since.
They sent me a replacement 705, but right out of the box there was a mysterious rattle inside the unit, something loose! I sent it back and asked them to let me know when the new version software would be avail...again, nothing. Other Garmin stuff is great, but this unit is very disappointing and Garmin knows they blew it. Is it obvious I'm frustrated? : )
