a storm just like this happend in cleveland, ohio just last week i ran outside in a tank top amd shorts and yelled that it was awsome and my mom grabbed my are and dragged my 13 year old ass back inside lol
Yea i remember this. It was like my 1st day of the school year. As soon as the bus left our school it got really windy and branches and crap were hitting the bus. There was actually downed trees on the roads and a huge brach fell off out front tree barley missing our house. The next day we had no school and I found out from friends that the school went on lockdown a little after I left on the bus because of a tornado warning.
Somehow I think Chicago and New York City(where I live) as siblings. But it gets windier here. If any of you don't know yet, there's a possibility that here in NYC might experience a CAT-5 hurricane. It happens every 75 years, the last one was 1938 and now between the years of 2006-2011, there might be another one!
I know. But I'm afraid, it's gonna happen anyway. I wish and hope that it will be less than a CAT-3 storm. Where I live, the storm surge could come up to 10 feet!
the tornado acually touched down on chicago's northside just north of loyola university. downtown chicago and the rest of the city just had a shitload of microbursts.its a good thing the tornado didnt touchdown until it got far east near lake michigan where they usually die out because of the lake winds.
i been working on that day and it was crazy and yes it was raining what do u think. I was working on the 25th florr construction on the new apartament buildings on Wabash near Roosevelt it was awesome to watch from tehre.
dumb ass video.. first of all did u see a tornado in this video? no... u know why? cuz it didnt hit downtown, it hit the loyola area (north north side) i live in wrigleyville, and we only had VERY strong winds....But i guess the poster had to put someting to get us to watch this useless video.
I remember that day. I live in chicago. and there was tornado warning... but it's cuz the winds were producing tornado-like damage in the suburbs--and the winds were coming to the city--and people didn't take the warning seriously--so there was a torado warning issued so people WOULD take it more seriously. but no... there was not a tornado confirmed. OWNED.
they don't do that, they will only issue a warning when a tornado is visually spotted or indicated on radar, both of which however can in some circumstances be mistaken
as for the comments about no tornado in the video there is none, no tornado hit downtown, if this is the day I'm thinking of it there were tornadoes in the suburbs before more formed on the beach near Loyola and on the lake
Actually there doesn't need to be a tornado. Radar may indicate it, but a tornado warning can also be indicated if conditions are very likely for a tornado. I remember a while back a tornado siren was issued an hour before this large storm struck where I live in central Georgia. The storm hadn't produced a tornado yet but was very powerful. There was no tornado but by the time the storm got here, the west end of town had gotten hit by winds in excess of 100mph but no tornado.
you guys saying u dont see it are pretty stupid... the only reason it doesnt look the way it does out in the middle of nowhere is cuz there is no dirt in downtown chicago so it looks clear
that storm was crazy i was stuck at school until like 7pm and got home with a foot of water in my basement. But if youre wonderin gthere was a tornado ther wasnt it was a microburst with 80-100 mph winds
It's pretty obvious that there is no "Tornado in Chicago" in that video. If there were, though, you really shouldn't be that high up. You need to be as close to the ground (preferably underground) as possible. Take it from someone who has had roots in Oklahoma City, as well as Birmingham, Alabama.
Oh, I remember this! I live in North Aurora, far west of Chicago. I was just about to leave soccer practice from my school when the sirens started up. the Chicago area got pounded not once, but twice in a row with dangerous storms.
Um, that's straight-line winds. Probably around 50mph. There's no tornado. At all. Notice the cranes... and everything else wind blown... moving in the same direction.
When I look at this and other Chicago storms, I think of the day after tomarrow. Bear in mind that I live in San Diego and never see anything but a DRIZZLE!!! Well we sometimes get 30 mph winds. Only in October usually.
We had one like this in Downtown Detorit about a month ago and it was even worse. Lots of car accidents because it was the middle of rush hour and a tigers game.
That storm was crazy!!!! I work at Navy Pier and the wind was making the yachts come up with the water and looked like with the next wave, they would be on the sidewalk!!!
Shouldn't you be looking for a safe place? Other than recording the scene from your window? But I love scene like these, its like a movie, lol. But I've seen worse storms that this recorded on camera, so consider yourself lucky.
I was driving down to Joliet two days ago when that second storm hit. I seen the wall clouds coming down and the sky turned turqoise and pitch black like pavement right as the sirens went off. I had to help a neighbor during the sirens to stop flooding to his basement using a generator and a pump. Lightning all around us, that was just a nasty evening.
We've all been without power down here in Frankfort for 48 hours, but it came back on this morning.
Officially, there were tornado warnings in the "Chicago area", though I didn't hear about any within the city limits. I will agree that insulting for no reason is rather stupid. I wonder if this guy is 13 or something. Brace for more storms possibly today, unfortunately...
