@Ste120372 I think the point of it is that it decreases the overall RPM at the back axle. There's a limit to how fast pneumatic tyres can rotate before they blow, so increasing the diameter of the rear wheel decreases the RPM the back wheels have to rotate at.

As for transmission ratio I'd have thought logically tyre diameter would have to be part of the calculation. After all, the tyre diameter is the last 'gear' in the transmission.

Never use slicks on a dyno! It just rips rubber off on the rollers and wrecks them. If you try to tension them down on the rollers too much to stop ripping the rubber off you'll burst them at high speed like that guy did.

@JakeTaylor202 No. For drag racing rwd is better. The rear of the car naturally squats during acceleration giving the rear wheels more traction and basically lifting the front wheels up. My fwd volvo with just 300 horsepower burns all the way through first trust me rwd is better in most aspects.

And just to make it worse, almost every single FWD car suffers from understeer, and/or torque steer. Im not saying that they're all crap, they are just not as suitable for racing as RWD's.

FWD's have better fuel effiency, and they are usually alot smaller and quite not as heavy as RWD's. In the end they are both good and have their ups and downs. It's a neverending debate between these two.

For the loss of traction on launch though bigger wheels, lowering the car and getting stiffer suspension could help, but its next to impossible to eliminate the wheelspin fully. Also LSD should help a bit or a bigger turbo that spools slower. All that stuff will make a hole in your pocket very quickly though...

Looks like they strapped it down without taking into account the expansion of those soft drag tyres under intense centrifugal force.

The tyres try to expand, the dyno rollers won't let them, something has to give and it looks like the front suspension.

Anything fitted with drag tyres would do this, fwd, rwd, awd, anything strapped down that tight.
