Nice M... it starts up pretty well for the condition its in. My grandpa has a fully restored Farmall H and it doesn't start up as fast as that. Are you goung to restore it?
The tractor is in very good machanical condition even if it has no paint on it. I traded it to a friend for a 1952 Allis CA.
My wife wants it back as she likes just about anything that is painted red. The next time you need to replace the battery on your H, if it is still a six volt, get a eight volt battery. The six volt charging system will keep it up and it will crank the engine faster. Our local farm supply store still carries them in southern Oklahoma. Thanks!
A six volt system will not keep a 8 volt Battery charged just by dropping it in. You have to make changes your system. Also 8 volts are hard to put on a battery charger since you can only find a 6 or 12 volt chargers.
@Jason1Pa personally i think he should convert it to a 12 volt system. Now i dont know all the details on the setup of it, but my M that came from my grandpa was converted to a 12 volt system. and i think it still has the 6 volt generator on it and it keeps the battery charged. Not 100% tho, he converted it before my time. but for me 12 volt is the way to go
@plowboy9991 It is possable someone could of put a 12 volt generator on it. Still will look close to a 6 volt gen. there is NO way a 6 volt Gen will keep a 12 volt battery charged
@Jason1Pa yeah i dont know what they all look like that was just my guess. I aint the greatest with the wiring and electrical parts. But it looks origional atleast. if i was him thats what i would want
On a bigger engine like a tractor engine is it hard on the exhaust valves to run with no pipe or muffler like that? I'm only asking because in smaller engines cold air will come back in and warp the valves, i know tractors flow much more exhaust
@JtsGreene we've ran ours with just a short pipe for years since we have to go under alot of trees. it still runs strong . its in its work clothes but if we do take it to a show we stick the muffler on to quiet it down. its realy noisy with out one
Mine USED to have a little skip in er, but i fixed that. New plugs, wires, distributer, rebuilt the carb, set all the valve clearences, and a can of sea foam. what really helped though was the distributer and valve clearences, i'd check those. Make sure your dist. bushungs arnt wore too bad, mine probably had .030" of play in it, and the retainer springs for the spark advance weights had fallen off too :)
It is still the original six volt system with an eight volt battery. It all still charges fine and the eight volt spins the engine much better than six.
Haha, that sounds VERY nice, don't even put a muffler on it! Ha just put a nice chrome straight pipe on it!

billybadazz11 3 years ago
It seems to be a very slight miss. Not sure of the cause, could be several things.

Could you put a 12 volt in it, would it make it turn over faster. Thanks
FordsSuck95 3 years ago
Yes, it would work and turn it much faster but you would also need to upgrade the charging system.
farmboy00000 3 years ago
where do ya find an 8 volt battery?
ChevelleSSLS6 3 years ago
Orschlen's farm & home supply carries them. I am not sure but I bet Napa could get you one also.
Thanks!
