So would a soldier realy go find another deer just to get its tail? whoever wears one past early 62 is inncorrect. They dident wear them as much. And whoever wears one in 64 or 65 is just farb. They mostly used civilian hats. So in conclusion, they only realy used them in 61 or early 62. Do YOUR reasearch.

So your saying there were fat people in infantry, that had to march everywhere with all their gear and only 3 days rations. Lol....funny vid. Im a Mudsill and currently with the WIG. Over the years I've mellowed a bit. I draw the line at guys who dont know any better and are trying...even though with poorly mfg. items. I believe that the farby "redneck silliness" that you sometimes see gives us a bad name...especially the "over-acting" in front of the crowd...thats a personal pet peeve of mine. As far as modern impositions in camp & on the field like coolers, cigarettes, and cell phones...no excuse whatsoever.

I will have to say that I do like the video, but try to ease up on some people. It's the attitude that counts. See, not everyone can afford a $200 Communtation jacket from EJ thomas or a W&W sack coat, especially in this economy? No. Its like if you saw a boy with a bunch of cheap pakistan stuff but he over packed (Blanket roll, knapsack, etc) and wore his acoouterments right and all, hes just as authentic as any hardcore is. Attitude counts.

@ks7800 infantry had to march just about everywhere. probably 10+ miles a day. i doubt that they were that fat. Even Cav and Art were thin. Look at orig photos and find me a fatty as big as in the vid.

@yoyoyowasuppy: Yeah, and not to mention that guy was a confederate, and confederates had scarce rations sometimes, a lot more than the union did, so I would say that confederate soldiers were even thinner than their union counterparts. So yeah, that guy being confederate infantry, wouldn't have had a big ass beer gut.

There are some bad impressions out there, but you should take it easy. some of the guys are to old or bad health for hardcore, some just dont like it, i think they should do what they want. i prefer campaigning, but you shouldnt force people to do something they dont want to do, the hobby would quickly die out that way, you should encourage them. but i think people should have a good impression though. and i dont think they should wash their uniforms.

Okay, seriously. The first part wasn't funny. The Bucktails were actually a unit during the Civil War, and there was an ENTIRE BRIGADE of them. So that general whom you called "General Farby" is totally wrong, because there was the general of the Bucktails, and this man is a colonel. Get your facts straight. The rest is pretty funny though. 1. your average soldier didn't have access to parchment paper, that was outdated by the 1830's

2. your average soldier didn't use ink and pen on the march, as it had a tendency to get everywhere, and most period inkwells leaked over everything.

I mean I even started the hobby when I was 10 years old wearing a full C&C Sutlery 150$ Confederate Cavalry Uniform Special.... *Shudder* but when I was that young I didnt care or know any better. My wife and I have our own historical clothing sutlery of sorts. We custom make clothing and will not under any circumstances use synthetics or non-authentic methods. We specialize in the early 18th century however. Mostly hand dyed fabric by either us or Ben Tart. I quit American Civil War Reenacting due to the high level of farbs and the drama they bring with them. It just became sickening. Sorry I rant.

I cant believe it. Really? Some twit argued that being farby is GOOD??? Regrettably we do not have a website. We are new to the sutlery world and have been primarily making 18th and 17th century clothing. Lots of English Civil War stuff. However we do have the documentation and patterns for Confederate clothing. My wife recently finished my 1st Texas early war uniform and my civilian 1840's attire for gold rush events. If you have an email I would be happy to send pics as examples of our work.

This is going to give me nightmares. Reasons why I quit the hobby and found something with more people sharing a like minded obsession with AUTHENTICITY! Its like its hard for these people to just pick up a damned book and look at the photos from the war in it and ask themselves "Do I REALLY look like these people?"
