@4thSTREETproductions Thy why in just about every photo they arent wearing them? For one they began to smell. 2 when running throug the woods, they get cought up on things and fall off. So would a soldier realy go find another deer just to get its tail? whoever wears one past early 62 is inncorrect. They dident wear them as much. And whoever wears one in 64 or 65 is just farb. They mostly used civilian hats. So in conclusion, they only realy used them in 61 or early 62. Do YOUR reasearch.
@blsmothermon how were they all the same sizes like today, when being overweight is more common now. So your saying there were fat people in infantry, that had to march everywhere with all their gear and only 3 days rations. Many militia units were uniformed during the war so you are also wrong there. And also look at the cav guys impression. its shitty. So stop starting shit on youtube you farby asshole.
Lol....funny vid. Im a Mudsill and currently with the WIG. Over the years I've mellowed a bit. I draw the line at guys who dont know any better and are trying...even though with poorly mfg. items. I believe that the farby "redneck silliness" that you sometimes see gives us a bad name...especially the "over-acting" in front of the crowd...thats a personal pet peeve of mine. As far as modern impositions in camp & on the field like coolers, cigarettes, and cell phones...no excuse whatsoever.
I will have to say that I do like the video, but try to ease up on some people. It's the attitude that counts. See, not everyone can afford a $200 Communtation jacket from EJ thomas or a W&W sack coat, especially in this economy? No. Its like if you saw a boy with a bunch of cheap pakistan stuff but he over packed (Blanket roll, knapsack, etc) and wore his acoouterments right and all, hes just as authentic as any hardcore is. Attitude counts.
@ks7800 infantry had to march just about everywhere. probably 10+ miles a day. i doubt that they were that fat. Even Cav and Art were thin. Look at orig photos and find me a fatty as big as in the vid.
@yoyoyowasuppy: Yeah, and not to mention that guy was a confederate, and confederates had scarce rations sometimes, a lot more than the union did, so I would say that confederate soldiers were even thinner than their union counterparts. So yeah, that guy being confederate infantry, wouldn't have had a big ass beer gut.
LOL I bet you that if you could travel back in time to the civil war you would criticize the real soldiers uniforms and say that there were things wrong, fake, or inaccurate about them too
There are some bad impressions out there, but you should take it easy. some of the guys are to old or bad health for hardcore, some just dont like it, i think they should do what they want. i prefer campaigning, but you shouldnt force people to do something they dont want to do, the hobby would quickly die out that way, you should encourage them. but i think people should have a good impression though. and i dont think they should wash their uniforms.
@jwall1231324 , and going without a shirt or coat or something like that would be period correct for late war. and the guy at 0:55 is cavalry. that is correct way for carrying it.
Okay, seriously. The first part wasn't funny. The Bucktails were actually a unit during the Civil War, and there was an ENTIRE BRIGADE of them. So that general whom you called "General Farby" is totally wrong, because there was the general of the Bucktails, and this man is a colonel. Get your facts straight. The rest is pretty funny though. I'll give you that. lol
oh my god there are still farbs? I came from the jeancloth and flat felled seam school. Thank god I'm revy now, there is no debate for the most part LOL
HAHa farbs... I hate them,,,, just as much as you guys do what mess ya all with...?
Im with the Corn Fed Comrades out in Illinoisfunny video.... Next time try to find all those crappy dismounts and make fun of them... O and those aweful people who wear rank that don't know what there doing!!!!
3 regiments of them. 3 regemtns of unique men who could a kill a deer with a rifle, not a skill many had in the 1860's read about it you motherless fuck and pray I never met you face to face.
@walls0stone I'll have to agree with ya pard. There was, indeed, a unit called the "Bucktails" who did shoot a few dear. I'm not sure about the circumstances but yes this is documented. Look them up.
Calm down, bud. Farbs are reenactors, just like the rest of us, and they deserve a little credit. But, like you say, they don't deserve the credit that hardcore reenactors get. But seriously, calm down.
Blah, blah, blah, heard it all before and it bores me and makes me snore. Here my gun stuff and fun stuff had been cleaned up enough and put away for yet another year. Hardcores, I don't wanna be one of them, I'd rather walk on and prance and dance and perform and pose in front of them, for a few hours, before I return to my motel and take a nap and go to the bar after a good hot shower.
So you're saying that you participate in a hobby dedicated to educate, but refuse, and are hostile to the idea, to put together a correct impression, thus spreading false information? Makes Sence, Farb.
They looked like they were enjoying themselves and having fun. What looks rather childish and churlish and silly and stupid are those small elite seperate segregated individuals and groups who smell and tell and yell like hardcore poop and think that it is good to stink.
Its alla bout having fun and learinign while doing it CORRECTLY. Apearently you dont have common knowledge about farbs and why us hardcores do what we do.
Your comment about too much shiny brass at 1:00 doesnt make sense. Remembrance Day is reenacting the parade for the President who was in Gettysburg. You think they had their brass shined as reserve troops? I think so. If anyone looks stupid its the guys that show up looking rag tag for this parade. My unit is progressive but my guys better have their brass polished for that PARADE
I agree. Garrison and reserve troops typically had very well kept uniforms, so the comment at 1:00 doesn't make any sense at all. This guy who put it up isn't very intelligent.
This is hilarious! Amazing how many people treat history as a means to self identify as a redneck. Seriously, some people more interested in looking like a gun tottin cowboy than reflecting a 19th century infantryman during the Civil War.
I have an event in 2 weeks up here in the north, assault on allagheney, with NO FARBS. The sad thing about what the guy said in your story, they SEEN them in glory. But what the hell, if the had them in gods and generals, they were there ; ), JK. Good to see theres other events with no farbs too.
Im heading with my mess , but falling in with the CVG. I saw that your with the regulars! There site is awsome for info on all sorts of things. They seem like a realy good group of people. Shoot me a PM and mabye we can meet if your going union for the weekend.
Being farb is wrong! I kno a company with zippers and back pockets. being a farb doesnt give the spectators an impression of being in the 1860's. but then again, without farbs who are we to pick on?
ZIPPERS!!!! They arent civil war if they have zippers and back pockets. The military still doesent (for the most part) use zippers on the fly or other parts of the basic BDU or ACU.
The marines seemed kinda... well its hard to describe. It just came to me. The libertery rifles i know arent farby, im just posting farbs, not people that need correcting. And yes, true on the last one. YOU still have alot to learn jedi master.
How do you think the guys at 1:00 are farby. I thought that was a good firemans impression, and the officers ok to. I thought they were OK (questionable). Dude you have some nice pictures on your site. Was one of them from Hodges March. It sort of looked like it. I dont know. Did you go to Into the Piney Woods, It was a fun time
Thats not my site. Its anothers groups. You can go and see why there farby because I dont feel like explainign it (im heading out now). Thanks for the post.
What in the hell could his argument possibly have even been? I cant help but try to wrap my brain around that argument. I mean I even started the hobby when I was 10 years old wearing a full C&C Sutlery 150$ Confederate Cavalry Uniform Special.... *Shudder* but when I was that young I didnt care or know any better. So I cant understand how some one would argue in favor of remaining that way.
He said stuff like everything i had was wrong becasue I dont have a masters in history so that made me a stitch counter, says him. O well, its a thing of the past.
My wife and I have our own historical clothing sutlery of sorts. We custom make clothing and will not under any circumstances use synthetics or non-authentic methods. We specialize in the early 18th century however. Mostly hand dyed fabric by either us or Ben Tart. I quit American Civil War Reenacting due to the high level of farbs and the drama they bring with them. It just became sickening. Sorry I rant.
Ok thanks. I got a post before from some guy complaining that farbs are good. I see why you got out of it. I would never do that. I always try to maintain my gear to be as authentic as I can get it.
BTW, you said you have a sutlery? If you have a website, could you PM it to me and ill check it out and mabye order?
I cant believe it. Really? Some twit argued that being farby is GOOD??? Regrettably we do not have a website. We are new to the sutlery world and have been primarily making 18th and 17th century clothing. Lots of English Civil War stuff. However we do have the documentation and patterns for Confederate clothing. My wife recently finished my 1st Texas early war uniform and my civilian 1840's attire for gold rush events. If you have an email I would be happy to send pics as examples of our work.
This is going to give me nightmares. Reasons why I quit the hobby and found something with more people sharing a like minded obsession with AUTHENTICITY! Its like its hard for these people to just pick up a damned book and look at the photos from the war in it and ask themselves "Do I REALLY look like these people?"

1. your average soldier didn't have access to parchment paper, that was outdated by the 1830's
2. your average soldier didn't use ink and pen on the march, as it had a tendency to get everywhere, and most period inkwells leaked over everything.
3. You obiously have no idea of what you're talking about. I would recomend reading a book or two, and stop acting like a Farb-ass fool.
