Sadly John Gill, Australias onw ragtime pianist who has represented our coutry overseas at the Blind Boone Jazz festival used to play this on the Murray St Mall. John departed this earth too soon in his late 40s. I was priviledged to see him many times and bought all of his Cds, one which has this number on it.
My Father would always request this whenever we went on family holidays in the 80's. Usually the pianists didn't know it though! Great stuff, thanks for this.
My husband died 6 months ago. By chance I heard someone play Robin's Return which he loved . I bought him the record of Neville Dickie playing it many years ago. I now listen to it every morning as it brings back so many lovely memories.
This LP was a re-issue by EMI for their Starline series. It was originally called 'Introducing Neville Dickie' and issued on the Major-Minor label. As far as I can remember it was a long awaited LP released after the popularity of Neville Dickie's music played on BBC Radio 2. The single from the LP was 'The Robin's Return' and I think it got to about No.33 in the chart. The B side (Brandon Bounce) really showcased Mr.Dickie's talent. I've been a massive fan ever since.
Don't know what it is, but even in the seventies when I had bought the LP and I was still young, this joyfull piece allready made me feel a little melancholic. Heard it so many times, but still touches me.
Was in Perth CBD last week and saw our own John Gill busking away in the mall. He was playing this when I arrived on the scene. Also asked him to play Bohemia Rag by Joseph Lamb. He sint touring as much now as he used to.

This is the piece my piano teacher taught me and that I aspired to play. Mrs Sivess was the best piano teacher ever.

In the US I think we'd call it Ragtime. Scott Joplin is one of the most renowned ragtime artists we have. Isn't it fun?

My Dad used to play this back in Glasgow Scotland. He had our tenement building rocking as all the neighbours loved this piece of music.
