Yes,Khan in Conception - it was, i think, the best in progpower and heavy music..And i highly hope that Conception will be reunited to make a GREAT AND BEST ALBUM EVER!!!!Khan, please, make it for us))))))))And sorry for my eanglish, if a had a mistakes ;)
Like a month before X-mas 2010 I bought tickets for 5.5.2011 show in Bratislava (Slovakia). Month or two after that Kamelot announced "No Khan" for European tour... those grim news left me heartbroken for a long time. Fabio was outstanding, though there's no replacement for Khan, and never will be. I almost feel like people back in the year 0 when Jesus walked the Earth and upon leaving he said something like "Be well my people, I am going back to heaven" (just an example, hope u get the point)
I had pretty much given up hope for the future of metal in terms of great vocalists.Guys like Tate,Dickinson and Halford will all be retired soon.Khan gave me hope for the future, but he's gone now.Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know if the detereoration of his voice or his singing was due to his illness, meaning it was/is temporary, or if it simply lost luster over time independent of his illness?
@ZGoten I take singing very seriously, I love kamelot, and Roy, but he has fundamental flaws in "technique" way too much tension in his face/throat, squeezes out high notes and when he adds rasp he's singing directly from his throat. Do that day in and day out on tour for several years and it catches up to you . I still love his voice, but I believe he damaged it over the years. A quick example of it--Nothing ever dies, the breakdown part..."Until it breaks YOUR HEART" is squeezed out badly
@I3lindGuardian So in short if you sqeeze out too high notes with too much pressure, you damage your voice over time? Is there nothing you can do against it?
@ZGoten It depends on how long you do it for and what you actually do, he's been touring day in and day out since like 1993 I think? so over time yea, what happens is your chords get blisters on them, if you keep damaging them those blisters become callouses. It will give your voice a much raspier tone, but it also prevents actual notes. The voice can take a serious amount of punishment lol...but do it enough and yea it starts to die :(. I still LOVE kahn though, dont get me wrong!
@Fallintotherhyme Ive heard Roy say he took 3 years of training in opera...however I just dont see it in his performances (which rule! btw) but someone else on youtube mentioned that he said those 3 years didnt teach him anything so he just went back to his own style...which and again RULES but I think it caught up to him :S
@I3lindGuardian Perhaps touring does that to any artist though. I still think Roy has retained most of the vocal range unlike other popular singers who've had no training. Tony kako from sonata arctica is a good example :o?
@Fallintotherhyme Exactly, any singer is going to lose that through touring for many years, ESPECIALLY in metal, but a lot of Roy's issues stem from squeezing out notes to begin with. Metal is a tricky style to do without damage, its always sad when someone with such an awesome voice ends up loosing it :(
@I3lindGuardian I would pick Emotional value > Proper technique anyday. The emotions are written all over his face in every live performance, thats why his stage presence is off the charts
nights of arabia is clean, is one of the best kamelot i´ve heard (without taking into account epica and after). i really like the latest kamelot albums
Why, oh why my Khan, have you abandoned me (us).......the news that Roy Khan has left Kamelot has left me sad that I'll never see him perform live with the band. I hope he goes on to other endeavors and I'm sure he'll be successful in anything he does. <3 you forever, Roy!!!!!!!!

This is something that I would call "out of contest stuff", thank you for sharing this, specially for the videos of Khan with Conception!!!. I didn't used to hear Kamelot (Until 6 or 7 years ago), but now I appreciate more their work (actually I like it). However, Conception is a top and very underrated act, seriously. Besides, I've heard them much more time than Kamelot, and their stuff have shook me since the first time I listened it!.
Actually I would chose Ark as the best european prog band (Tore Ostby is in both), but I agree with you: Khan's voice was way better in his Conception era, now is pretty different but is NOT bad at all
You are just acting like they are the best just because its his first serious band... You are likely just a poser who pretends they are a true fan by following his roots...
@edgeofsins 1. I am not a fan of Roy. I just like some of his songs. 2. I listened Conception in 1998 and I still believe they are better than Kamelot. It's a matter of personal taste. I like prog metal much more than power metal .I asked Roy in some Kam gig if they will re-unite for an album and he told me a Big No.
@Neueregel totally agree. I'm a Conception fan since 1993 and they were the best prog metal band of history. Roy's voice and Tore guitars were amazing!
@fjtoledano Cool. I am also a Conception fan since 1999. My top-5 Khan performances (songs) - '1.Soliloquy 2. AVirtual Lovestory 3.In Your Multitude 3.The Last Sunset 5.Parallel Minds
@Lyontnmetal6 It's the live album The Expedition, its pretty rare. You probably won't be able to find it anywhere other than the Internet. You could always try torrents :P
The live version of Elizabeth is the best live performance I've ever heard (though of course it was hard to compare to EVERY SINGLE OTHER SONG from One Cold Winter's Night). I get chills the whole way through literally every time I listen to it.
does anybody else think roy khan is the best singer to ever be in metal and arguably the best singer ever? perhaps not the best metal vocalist, but his singing abilities...I WANT THEM!!!!
Do you know anything about Roy Khan ? If so..let me know..Did he finally quit the band ?
I've heard it was because of religious reasons and his privacy.
And he also must have had enough constant touring, travelling, working for his jew boss for pennies.
I hope we won't have to ignore his presence in metal world for long :)
