  • i would give one of my legs for this cylinder........take a pick haha, arthur collins is great and this is my favorite song by him

  • I have this record on blue amberol # 1560 it is announced and it is probably the only blue amberol that is announced as that is usually only on two minute edison gold moulded records and the practice ended around 1909. The blue amberol record of this song was released in 1913.

  • What was the max lenght of phonograph recording?

  • loud, clear & really nice record... ,:-)

  • what does that thing run on? batteries? was their even electricity back Then?

  • @Sonicku wind-up spring motor

  • this is my favorite songof arthur collins. Arthur Collins has a Duett with Byron Harlan.

  • Back when that cylinder was made it wasn't considered polite to get your reproducing equipment out in public. Now you can post it on youtube; what is the world coming to?

  • @procrustesuk Why was that?

  • amazing machine..

  • wonderful machine i have an old phono its a stand up model from the charmophone company i never seen another one like it and i also trying to find a cyclinder phono

  • would u consider selling

  • GOOD QUALITY!

Never tought that the oldest surviving records have such good quality...

  • This is the preacher and the bear recorded in 1904 by arthur collins.

  • Great detailed clip. Good job!

  • can i get a n mp3 for this song? the original, i know there are some new covers. but i want the original

  • how do those things work? where do you put the music in? and what does the music lok like?

  • The music is actually a wax or tinfoil covered cylinder that you spin while a stylus reads the bumps and ridges in it and vibrates to make the sound. It's more complicated than that, but it's the main idea. Thomas Edison invented them.

  • The Preacher & The Bear! Great song. One of Arthur Collin's Best! Is it an Indestructible 2 min cylinder, played with the Model C reproducer??

  • I love this cylinder, I also have it on blue amberol. this hobby is my passion

  • Me too! I have one I'm restoring right now!

  • Is it a blue or black cylinder? What reproducer are you using? It sounds great.

    Would like to know

  • I'm guessing that the record is pre-Amberol 4 minute black wax (the kind that wore quickly though this one's in good shape). The machine looks like a Home with a 2/4 minute adapter so that's probably a Model H reproducer?

  • Do you have to change the needle of the Phonograph like the Gramophone

  • I imagine so.

  • what tune is this ? I've done a long dissertation about the phonograph on my last university year :)

  • "The Preacher And The Bear" I think

  • I have this cylinder. A classic tune.

  • i wish music was still like this, now days it's just unclaen it seems we have lost a lot of our morals or at least in the music world

  • I think i have the same copy of that cylinder.

    GREAT STUFF.

  • Thanks to Edison........great fun!

  • Sounds great for a recording from early 1900s.

  • Thank you for this. It is almost haunting to hear just a clear voice of the past. People had a good sense of humor back then.

  • No, you don't understand-

I wasn't referring to the cylinder recording itself; I was saying that even though I do not know when this particular recording was issued, I know that Arthur Collins first issued this song on Victor Records in 1905.

  • SUPER! Thanks.

  • Fine!!!!!!

  • Amazing how this recording is 102 years old! Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you for collecting and sharing we've come along way in music, or have we?

  • Wow, beautiful!

  • I love this song:)

  • How old is it?

  • What's the name of the song?

  • i really like that song!

  • WOW!!!! I saw this video last night, and today I found myself singing it in school. What is the name of this song and what is the name of the singer in the song?

  • The name of this song is "The Preacher and the Bear"; it is a "coon" song by Arthur Collins. This was recorded in 1905.

  • Thank You!

  • Amazing. Can't believe the volume ! Amazin gpiece of technology.

  • Man that thing sounds amazing. I can't believe the amount of bottom end on his voice. That is one finely tuned phonograph.

  • You know, most people today are turned off by this type of music, but it still is important to keep these records because they're a part of our history!
