  • STEVE AYLETT ON LEAD

  • Noel Edmonds has no comment.

  • This was Bruce's legendary "safari suit" period, before he moved on to the "tabard" period.

  • When I first heard Telstar as a child of 8 I thought it was amazing and I still love to this day. It was far ahead of it's time. Joe Meek was an innovator and a brilliant man ahead of his time. Pity about those damned french lawyers or he would have been rich and alive. For shame french lawyers!

  • the glasses would make Deardie blush

  • Tornados' version is much superior.

  • Nice safari suit, Bruce...Hahaha

  • I never knew Ron Atkinson was the drummer for The Shadows! Lol! :P

  • Don't you need chest hair to wear a shirt like that?

    ?8-)

  • The Tornados - Telstar, 1962 first british no.1 in America Produced by Joe Meek also in my opinion the best version. :)

  • The Tornado's version of Telstar is much better, no argument there. The reason the Shadows never made it big in the US is because their hits were covered by an American musician/band, don't know the name off the top of my head. I personally have no gripe against the Ventures, and I hope that who ever goes to see them enjoys them. But having lived with Americans, I do know that they have a tendency to big up America & all things American regardless. its a national trait.

  • what is that bass Alan is playing!?

  • Not the way I heard it on my 6 Transistor radio. But the memory will always remembered. Awesome!

  • I s'pose it's just a matter of opinion, isn't it? I have most of the stuff The Shadows recorded and pretty much every Ventures CD...To ME The Ventures are much better in every way. Again, I challenge anyone to listen to both bands side by next and draw your own conclusion. But really, music isn't really a competition, it's all subjective. BTW, I'm not slaggin' 'em because they're British. I believe (know) England has always had the BEST bands the world has ever known.

  • The tornadoes version is WAY better but i still love the shadows :)

  • The reason they're called the Shadows is that they were/are and will always be in the shadow of The Ventures. These goofballs are/were nowhere near as cool or as good as The Ventures. Just listen to a side by next comparison of each group's greatest hits and you'll know. I still like The Shadows, but it's like they are Herman's Hermits and The Ventures are The Beatles! Just sayin.

  • @tikitortured You have obviously never seen the Shadows live. the reason they are called the Shadows is because they had to change their original name "the Drifters" as the American vocal group had rights on it. As for the Ventures, well, they do not even come close to The Shadows in talent or tone. Sorry mate, but you are wrong in the extreme.

  • @tikitortured well, the reason they are called The Shadows is because they had tio change their original name, The Drifters, because of the American Vocal Group. If you watch enough you tube videos, you will see that the Shadows leave the Ventures way, way behind. It sounds like you are an American flying the stars and stripes for the sake of it.... Walk don't run is about all the Ventures are really worth, no tone quality at all. Just Sayin'.......

  • @mark22160 I am going to see the Ventures in March. For you to say Walk don't run is all they are worth is very uneducated and untrue. When The Ventures and the Surfari's were topping the American charts in the early 60's, the Shadows couldn't. The Shadows disbanded in 1968 and again in 1990 while the Ventures are still touring. The Ventures are in the R&R HOF and to be quite honest your comments are merely burying your head in the British flag. I love the Shadows, but let's be real!

  • @Packey67 I've just posted about this. I have no criticism of the Ventures, but I disliked your attack on the Shadows. Having lived with Americans for two years, and having more American family than British, I can say that American's will big up anything American as better than anything else, from anywhere else, and that's just how you come accross. The Shad's hits were covered by a US band/artiste. Good look to the ventures, and who ever watches them. But my ears tell me what I like.

  • just shadows just telstar !!!!!!

  • Goddamn you Hank you fucked my wife! You fucked my wife and I still love you! Goddammit Hank for breaking up my home goddamn you!

  • @Alpha7xxx Dude! That sucks! x

  • A bit before the days of Specsavers....

It will always be 'walk into the cinema music' in the 1960s for me, haha...

  • love the shads but this is not a patch on the tornadoes who hit top spot

  • i like how there songs are always entertaining and they never had to even sing..

hank had a unique style (the raw twang sound)

but all three of them were great together.

  • Shads forever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Looks kinda like the old set of americas funniest vids

  • not one of their best cover's if i'm honest

  • i had no idea the shadows did a cover version of telstar , prefer the tornados version , sorry brother ...convention last year was encouraging , pardon my spelling ..

  • The Tornados!!

  • u forgot to say that the original track was written by the tornados

  • 2:28

  • This is absolutely superb!!....FANTASTIC in fact!!!

  • Can someone help me to find a song there the singer count up the population in different countries......

  • Gay

  • BRUCE WELCH..the guy in the green jacket

  • Great song ! But as I know this title is the Tornados's one!!

    Sorry

  • @56Windman No need to apologise your right it was the Tornados & I think it beats the shadows cover..

  • EL MEJOR BAJISTA DE THE SHADOWS FUE JOHN ROSTILL TRAJICAMENTE FALLECIDO

  • When Spock lost his virginity, you know that was on the radio. Hey, live long and prosper!

  • Doh? The Tornados were the origional recorders of this tune, former backing group of Billy Fury.

  • who's is the original version of this song? the ventures, the shadows or the tornados?

  • @asadodemierda It was The Tornados , The Ventures never played anything original they were all covers

  • Hank Marvin is the Brisitsh equivalent of Paul Gilbert. Has this ridiculous "lost " look on his face when he's rockin' out. That's not a bad thing.

  • Hank is the best no doubt, but dosen´t he look a little to thin in this video?

  • OMG..great memories of a bygone era when every kid I knew wanted to be Hank Marvin..lol !

    Classical,brilliant stuff fromthe 60s.

  • I'm utterly hank marvin, waiting on pizza.

  • It was the Ventures in the States and Japan and it was the Shadows in Europe. Both are excellent bands and most kids learning to play guitar listened to either of these groups. The Ventures are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and so should the Shadows be in there too.

  • Bloomin' eck! Remember watching this!!!!

  • there is a double fascination of the electric guitar : the pure, clear sound (shadows) and the distorted, heavy sound (Hendrix)

    i always needed both.

  • Yet another virtuoso performance by perhaps the greatest of all instrumental bands..wonderful stuff..why has the entire world now forgotten how to write music?

  • @saxier1 sadly they haven't forgotten how to write it, they have just figured out how to sell piles of it to braindead people.

  • El bateria tocando con chandal

  • Please also check out TELSTAR by THE DUELLING PIANOS. Great new version and video

  • Awesome...

  • awkward. I have to get my tubes to quit recommending me this kind of stuff.

  • Drummer is a Man Utd casual

  • I have to admit, I think I like this version a little better than the original... mainly because there's more focus on guitar rather than keyboard. The keyboard is great, but can get a little grating on the ears for me. : /

  • who is that person with a big round glasses

  • @HKIAYH Hank Marvin

  • Didn't realize it was the cool thing to swing back in forth constantly. Great song but what a strange thing to do an entire performance.

  • Great Oldies song

    Thumbs up

  • Hi Super,pozdrawiam :):):) (POLAND)

  • worse part of this video is that bitch delia is on at the begining oh i hate the woman apart from that its an ok song

  • @weliketogloatitfc What's she done to upset you? Personally, I would prefer not to see Noel Edmonds.

  • There's only one Hank! Have you seen the version by THE DUELLING PIANOS? TELSTAR by the Duelling Pianos

  • Love the Shadows. It's all my mums fault! Grew up listening to them & Cliff!

  • @hadders81 Your mum had taste! and The Shadows are still as good as they have always have been!

  • @Andrewshadowy So is Cliff, and their 50 years reunion, Hello !!!!!

  • @Andrewshadowy they have an interesting style ..

  • This is so gay....

  • Such talent! They have been able to survive due to true talent and God Bless them! Sorry that the Shadows have retired. I would have loved to been able to see them in concert.

  • @iappreciategoodmusic so they have retired ? they sure carried on for a long time much like The Ventures have. some of The Shadows instros were pretty cool.

  • alan is still with bruce welchs shadows and cliff hall is still on keyboards

  • still love you "jonesy" remember our golden street your still boss of the bass babe, speak soon xxx

  • Super, super, super,Merry Christmas:):)

  • drums are wrong, listen to The Rapiers version.

  • The song may be Telstar but Hank's glasses looks like he lifted them from the Hubble.

  • @Moshpith haha, good one mate

  • Surely Mark Griffiths is still with The Shadows. I can't understand why they replaced Cliff Hall on Keyboards

  • in the green is alan jones

  • And wath about Spotnicks ?

  • The first 45 I ever bought.. thanks for posting...

  • Super super super:):)

  • Good grief, just how many versions of this song are there out there? I've counted at least three bands doing it so far. And weird remixes.

  • I love the shadows but this version isn't as good as the Tornadoes, it doesn't have the right feel, it's too upbeat.

  • great music, i love how there always smiling even now after all these years they still look like they enjoy playing.

  • Best song ever :o ( previous post failed :o)

  • Absolute rubbish.

  • @quasomike i pity u

  • Why in the heck does anyone or group try to mimick this song without the famous organ as the lead? Why? Please! It just can't be done and sound like the original. That's what gave the song its popularity and that was the organ sound! Duh!

  • @ricardo522042

I agree to some extent. I remember how I liked the spacy sound of the original when it was released, and it was something new. However this version is also nice to see since The Shadows are really special and quite charming even if I myself nearly never saw them in the

    60`ies.

  • Listen to the Lively Ones version, alot better

  • I don't like the bass line...it's too "active" for this song. Also dancing to the beat is totally not rock and roll.

  • r u kidding it actually feels like youre moving in a spaceship like the bass ever thought ov it that way?

  • Neither is a grand piano!

It is a bit "mincey" though. They always make a simple tune sound great.

  • @mmarocker one of the best bass players ever pity ur brain isnt as active

  • @mmarocker best bass player ever alan jones

  • I think Hank Marvin is very cool

  • Comment removed

  • He is VERY COOL!

  • both the shadows and tornadoes versions are good

  • rbx937385...your dead right.!!..the shads were in a diff league to the tornados and this proves it...MUCH BETTER VERSION.....bit of a camp version tho..LMAO.

  • Who doesn't know that, The Tornadoes did it first "So What' The Shadows are one of The Greatest all Time Groups in the World!

If someone Plays Bach prelude Cm, Does Bach have to play it all the Time, Well he's Dead! Tired of these Same comments by Morons.

  • For the honor of the late Joe Meek, "Telstar" was originally by the Tornadoes.
