  • My "My Passport Essential SE 1TB 3.0" Gives 20mb/s when i Copied a 8.77GB from my Internal Drive to it via USB 2.0 port.. Why its 20mb/s...

Previously i was having same speed on Elements SE 500GB via 2.0..I am regretting it why i bought it if i'll gona have the same speed.....Any Solution?

  • For people who can't see the point of super high speed transfers let me explain. I run a business where I'm currently backing up 8GB+ of data a day and it takes around 25 minutes on USB 2.0, that's 2 and a half hours a week based on a 6 day working week. USB 3.0 will reduce that to less than half as much. It might not matter if you're an average user but to data demons like me it means i can spend more time doing things i want and not working!

  • Messy desk...

  • Kids, have fun with this techy stuff now! Don't you get hurt and come cry to your ma. ^^"

  • Change company name to ''Terabyte''

  • Gygabyte products suck. I bought Gigabyte motherboard and it always has problem

  • @KatiushaVN4 My motherboard is Gigabyte and it works perfectly, don't judge a company by a single item.

  • @Tomislav005

Well, that's the first purchase ever of Gigabyte product by me. Not a good impression....

  • I´ve got an USB flash drive 32 GB with USB 3.0 and an laptop with USB 3.0, I´m just getting 30 MB per second !! It´s a Trancend Jetflash, do I need to update drivers? Can someone please help me! :/ I´m wasting time...

  • when would you ever need to transfer 7.oo gbs + worth of stuff

  • @BlockKingdom When you're backing up you might be copying 1TB or more. This will save businesses lots of time and money!

  • @turrican1900 true daht!!

  • @turrican1900 Because businesses do their backing up during the day while people can sit there watching it happen, right? o.O

  • @karlww Yes they do. If you've taken 32GB of photos as a photographer and need to copy it for several people this could save you half an hour on each shoot.

  • @turrican1900 Backup != copy for other people.

  • @BlockKingdom when you have 7+ gb to copy, of course. 7gb is less than the size of a dvd image... if you can't think of a situation where you need to copy more than 7gb over usb you need some imagination and/or experience.

  • @karlww okay? thanks for the help

  • @BlockKingdom

Once or twice a week. I download shit from youtube, and then back it up on my backup drive. Its about a gig a day, or just about 7 gigs a week. So yeah.

  • Great accent(to me you do), great video, great comparison. Thumbs up

  • i would like to see how a usb2 usb HD runs on a usb 3.0 port as on my current pc 34 MB per second is the limit but i have a lot ofusb devices connected so i wonder if on a usb3 port the drive actualy is no longer limited and getss is theoretica max speed of 60 MBps.

  • @hutjeflut it always reverts to the slower port because there is a bottleneck.

  • forget usb 3 its all about thunderbolt at 700 & 800+ mgbs

  • Comment removed

  • does transferring speed also depend on the computer specs? ram and cpu?

  • @kinglynx no, not really. If there was there would a 1 mb/s difference

  • @kinglynx Of course.

  • RevoDrive baby, RevoDrive

  • this what we call supercomputer =)

  • Clean up your desk lol

  • How to find wich usb version I have?

  • @FiFAViDZ4You Well, obviously if you buy a usb cable it will state that it is a 2.0 or 3.0, or both. Also, it appears that all usb 3.0 has a blue line along the mouth of the plug. If your PC has a usb 3.0 port it will also have a blue line along the mouth of the port.

  • Nice video, I´ve got a laptop, HP dv6, how do I know where the USB 3.0 are ?

  • I get 106 MB/s when copying files over 5 gigs and around 240 MB/s when copying smaller files under 700mb on USB 3.0

  • will you still get the same performance from a usb 3.0 controller in an pci express slot?

  • you dont want to spill a drink over on that desk...

  • I wish videos like this had a summary of the results and conclusion in the more info description for the video

  • but if usb 3.0 is faster, i'll need to chill my beer faster. Can you make a kind of microwave for cooling things?

  • 3 or 4 times faster? 35MB vs 90MB it is 1.5 time faster not 4 times.

  • @sebo2001 90/35 = about 2.5, not 1.5

  • The HDD is a bottleneck.

  • does a external hard drive with a 3.0 usb connection work with a computer that has a usb 2.0 port?

  • @valdivia562

    yes 3.0 works with 2.0

  • hold on... at 2:32 the blue SS cables plugged into the FOURTH port on the left of the board.BUT after your little edit? ( wtf??) its now in the second port on the right. are you sue you arnt tweaking the test ¬¬

  • wow

  • my usb port can be 200 gb per second and his name is usb 7.0

  • Let's all chip in and buy this guy a computer case :-))))

  • @zaspan1 lol......but for me it looks like a electronic porno...good video btw :)

  • @zaspan1 its a test bench........its not supposed to have a case........that would kinda defeat the purpose of a test bench if u put it in a case

  • @zaspan1 hahahaahaahah

  • @zaspan1

Fuck the computer case, lets all help him clean his office!! XD

  • @Danz207 It is his office and his own computer.....What is the problem with you,If he doesn't want to use it.

  • @VideosMillions

Calm down, i was joking! I don't care if he has a computer case, i just said he should clean his office.

  • WHY is this video over 6 minutes long?!!!!!!!!!!! Youtube whore.

  • Why doesn't anyone address whether a USB 3.0 device can run at the new high speed on a USB 2.0 device? People still have the old 2.0 devices like PS3.

  • Comment removed

  • Fast forwarded

  • I'd even love to get 40mbps! >:T

  • I would effing LOVE if I could transfer stuff that fast...I get maybe 20mBps.

  • If I was the tester and some dude came along to watch me debug/test some hardware and he kept talking like a retard next to me; I'd fucking punch him in the face.

There's just so much talking and "Uhhh Uhhh Uhhh" in this video.

  • Why the Chinese Jappo or what ever it is language bullshit? But the speaking is in English.Make up your fucking mind.

  • lol i bought a 3.0 usb card from china for 25bucks and it promised me speeds of 5gigabite's per second!!! lol omfg :P

chinese scammers just like the 128gb usb sticks for 10 dollars

  • @laurentprodz you bought stuff from china....that says it all really

  • @alan87guitarist high quality 1000000000% orginal ipod nano ipad all in one apple printer

100% original xd we spiek goot enghlish!

  • te juro que no entendi este video , cual era el 2.0 y cual el 3.0 , encima en chino .....

  • USB 3.0 is a very fast interface

  • Less than 3x faster. Thought it was meant to be 10x.

  • lightpeak will definetly outperform usb 3.0 but screw the wait i need to pay my mortgage. solution: usb 3.0.

  • man if you going to throw statistics in a review vid, brush up on your math skills

  • How about installing Kingston Hyper X Memory and re-doing the tests?

My 2.5" external USB 2.0 hard drive transfers files at a constant speed of 54MB/s with my internal drive in my laptop which still has DDR2 memory.

It has nothing to do with which type of drives. It is the MEMORY!

  • fuck usb 3.0. Gonna wait for lightpeak...

  • the HDD speed slows down usb3.0

    3.0 is 10 times faster then 2.0

  • You get both on mobo's at the moment due to developers being too lazy to make them USB3

USB3 is certainly back compat with USB2

I have a USB3 flash drive here and it works on both my pc and in my DVD players USB2 port

Also my old crap USB2 drive works in my USB3 ports on my pc.

When I plug my USB3 drive into a USB2 port it maxes at 30MB/s write speed

But plugged into my USB3 port it achieves 80 - 90MB/s write speed

  • When i download HD tach it's say "Hd Tach requires Windows 2000 or Windows XP" How do you run hd tach on Windows 7 ?

  • damn dude, clean your nasty desk off

cleanliness is next to godliness ;)

  • If USB 3.0 is backwards compatible then why even bother butting USB 2.0 ports on the mobo. Why buy a PS1 when you can buy PS2? .....or am I wrong? 0.o

  • @bloodyninjaassassin usb 3.0 isnt backward compatible i think thats why we get both with mobo i don knw if any converter is there ?

  • They have different bandwidths, not different speeds. The transfer speeds may be the same in most cases.

  • yes thaths future !

  • I love my new Gigabyte mobo <3

  • 8 people still use USB 1.0.....

  • This guy is either a chink who speaks English, or a white guy who could read chink characters :)

  • USB 3.0 is named SuperSpeed, so what will they call USB 4.0? BatSpeed or SpiderSpeed?

  • @VideoUploaderTester

what about USB 0.0 ? (aka Justin Bieber Puberty speed :D)

  • @Gabrielregalado2 LM-fucking-AO!

  • I did not need to see this; now I want it and my wife will probably tell me no... lol Great vid!

  • not really 10x faster to be honest

  • usb 4.0 1gb/s??

  • You also need hard drive with high tranfer rate, probably SSD.

  • @AlbertCoates1997 Were you born an idiot or did it take years of practice??

  • fmm de neamtz cu placa ta de 7mil+

  • @olivenoire1 hahaha epic fail

  • I would like to see the speed different's when the two HDD's are changed with Solid State Drive's......:-)

  • @exposed97 It could be that it was filmed in Japan... on a Japanese PC... used by someone from Japan...

  • its almost illegal to use windows XP

  • @exposed97 at least for some technology, it actually does revolve around japan;) besides, is that even japanese? Taipeh is the capitol of taiwan. The os is set to the guy's language. At least he is talking english, so ignorant people like you understand him. Just by the way, how many languages do you speak apart from your mother tongue?...like the world revolves around the us. (assuming you're american). Amazing you guys really ARE stuck on your US island. Nothing happening outside - for you.

  • USB 3.0 is normally 2x to 3x faster when transferring data compared to USB 2.0. USB 3.0 on avg. USB 3.0 will never be 10x faster than USB 2.0 in a real world environment. The up to 5gb speed on USB 3.0 is the "theoretical" maximum speed it can achieve, much like USB 2.0 theoretical maximum speed it could achieve was 480mb, but the actual speed in a real world environment is much lower as we all have found out with USB 2.0.

  • that is slow....lightspead is 10gb per second

  • finally i can take my porn with me

  • he should have used an ssd to remove that bottleneck...

  • Shit that was fucking fast mine usally takes like 7 mins for 1 gb

  • ill personally keep away from USB 3 products as USB 3 is only a half-way house until intels Light peak enters the arena.

  • USB 3.0 is great because it's not made in the USA! US Consumers are too obese to make things of quality.

  • If you notice he puts the USB 3.0 into the USB 2.0....4spots to the left of the audio jacks at location 2:18. but if you look closely when he starts introducing the second time at location 2:48 it is 2 spots to the left of the audio jack...i think its fake to be honest with you...If im crazy please say so.

  • thanks bro

  • My opinion on usb! They both suck.

Do you remember the fire wire?

Also any work faster than USB.

The USB and has always been unreliable, including 3.0.

  • I read somewhere that this is faster than sata, if thats true then you are sitting on the top of your sata speed with 3.0, that would mean we would have to switch to faster internal cables, you no 3.0 HDD speed could also be holding back something like an external SSD.

  • Wow, it's really fast, cool

  • omg ... only double the speed ? :S

  • @iKristiaan only double the speed? its not like they can make it 200x's faster....

  • awesome computer! no case. parts all separated lol

  • Song intro?

  • @AiDz0r rip off of mario when hes in the sewage pipes :)

  • @MrErjavec yes usb3.0 is compatible with usb2.0

  • eSATAp (eSATA/USB) is more economical & easier.

    1) 50% of the notebooks out there have eSATAp

    2) SATA is in all machine. Upgrading is just a ZERO driver USD 12 delock bracket. 99.9% compatibility as it makes use of onboard SATA.

3). NCIX, Crunchgear have proven that the more economical eSATAp is as fast if not faster than USB 3.0

    4) eSATA is found in many NAS. (Note: you need port multiplier feature)

    5) eSATAp is ALSO USB 2.0.

    6) eSATAp can hotswap!. Can function as IDE mode.

  • is usb 3 compatible with usb 2

  • can you put sata 3 in a sata?

  • I think its better to test it using SDD to USB SSD(or something more faster) rather than HDD to HDD its too slow even my HDD to HDD transfer is getting the same amount inside my PC (100mb to 50mb)

  • incredible desk

  • Clean your fucking desk !!!

  • @Ashleyuk1984 I'm agree with you he needs to clean all that mess and also use a PC with english OS. so we can all understand better... but most important ....clean that f*cking desk!

  • @Sparksnwheels the computer probably belongs to that Gigabyte office, which is located in Taiwan, a country where the official language is not English.

  • sad gigabyte cant count. 100Mb/s is not x10 of 40Mb/s.. 5Gb/s on all the usb 3 motherboard box is a lie

  • Does anyone else hear some guy in the backround in the first 30 sec?

  • 7.58 gb in 30sec, wow, its good

  • @xme71

He sped up the tape... it wasn't in 30 seconds.

  • Real testing should be done with thousands of small files - not one big VOB file... It is known that we all copy mp3 songs, pictures, documents, etc - and that's what matters - this does not really say much but hey USB 3.0 is probably faster up to two times more than USB 2.0 - and there you go.

  • @eenbox not really, i have xbox 360 games.. each file is around 7.6 gb.. this was a great video example.

  • @swatregret USB 3 doesn't even apply to the consoles.

  • @ImperialArmour He is talking about pirating games. He has the games on his PC and transfers the files around before burning them

  • @eenbox aaplease dont talk bullshit its normal real world speed

you csn make 100 tests if you like ..

  • @eenbox he did this test perfect

  • @eenbox I would have to disagree with you. I transfer large files quite often . So large VOB type files IS what matters to me. Everybody uses computers for many different reasons. Not just to transfer mp3 songs which i also do.

  • @eenbox That is stupid it doesnt matter how many files u transfer is matters on how much gb if any you are transferring. Your logic is wrong.

  • @gamerplay No, he's right, copying smaller files typically reduces copy speed.

  • @eenbox In a while you'll be copyng HD movies of 20gb my young fella

  • @eenbox nah i found this helpful, i dont muck around with pin dick files more like thousands of files at 500mb+ each

  • table is a always a mess for engineers

  • USB 3.0 - the manufacturer's excuse to force consumer spending. yay yay capitalism FTW...

  • That's pretty freaking crazy, my next motherboard will DEFINITELY have a 3.0 port.

  • oh look 3.0, bye bye firewire.

  • amds LSB is bout million times faster than usb 3.0 clocking in at around 1000gig a sec of corse its very exparmentle and the cable can be as thin as a hair

  • @AwwC00L

I have not read such an asanine nor retarded youtube comment in such a long time. Leave the technical stuff to the big boys and take your idiocracy elsewhere

  • Not exactly 10 times quicker but UP to 10x faster ;)

  • god damn, now please people just start making USB 3.0 more mainstream so we can get us some awesome products!!!!!!!!

  • yeah, but this is a controlled test. Real world speeds show it slower, far from the 10x faster..they should shoot the usb org team..

BTW who the mutha fuckin moron who designed the vga to dvi adapter..?

Hasn't anyone realized they placed the freakin screws to inward that you can hardly tighten them..I had to modify mine. How hard is it to design the plug with the screws sticking out a bit more, or have them in an angle..The one who designed it must be shot..

  • @THEJEDEYEMASTER

cheap ass... (reffering to the adapter) why dont you just stop complaining and get some real stuff that they do actually have native DVI ports instead of looking out for absurd adapters? better yet with HDMI. (who the hell still uses VGA?!!)

  • @JEBC88

Show me an adapter that's better than the crap VGA to DVI one gets when buying a GPU. MY 24" Benq monitor has VGA..I don't know why but it does..I was shocked myself to see VGA at the end..

  • @THEJEDEYEMASTER

all decent GPU's come with native DVI. Some mid to high end come with both DVI and HDMI. and a very few with DVI, HDMI and display port (almost useless btw)

GPUs that come with VGA are just very low end. Basically, you shouldnt get an adapter. instead for some GPU with decent outputs (DVI, HDMI) and of course a monitor that supports those outputs as well. So theres no need for an adapter in first place. Pherhaps next time you purchase, consider those options.

  • @JEBC88

I know gpu's come with DVI. My 9800gtx sli have DVI's. No VGA. But I didn't know that the screen only has VGA output, even though it's a great quality screen. I'm talking about those crap VGA to DVI converters that come in the package when buy a GPU which I have to use. Have you tried to use the screws on those? you can hardly get a screwdriver in to twist it. Couldn't they have designed something better?

  • @THEJEDEYEMASTER

well yeah, they should have considered designing it better. and yes I have used them before (years ago). but still, fortunately is something you just need to set up once or twice only since you are not constantly plugging it and unplugging it every 5 min. what Im thrilled is with the fact that your monitor is 24" and it doesnt have any other output besides VGA. thats outrageous!! but anyway, maybe you can change it later. samsung LCD panels are very nice and sleak :)

  • @JEBC88

It is outrageous. I was shocked to find it had only VGA. also I should be getting money soon from a bike accident I had a few years back so will be buying a new PC for heavy video editing/PSing/Gaming/Maya and another 24"...i'll keep the current for internet only.

True though about the plug. You only deal with it once..

  • @THEJEDEYEMASTER juuuussst saying, your a fool for using maya...I'll keep 6k and keep using blender. :)

  • wow, they got all this shit, yet don't set the systems to the monitors native res...

  • My humble advice is to use eSATAp (eSATA + USB), why?

    1) It just require a simple bracket(delock) that cost less than USD10.

    2) Zero drive, no need OS or BIOS AHCI tweak

    3) Backward compatible with USB 2

    4) MAC Pro or PC compatible. On 40% of the notebooks

    5) Faster (or as fast as USB 3) as of now.

    6) Self power a 3.5" HDD on a desktop

    7) found in NAS network attached storage

  • How the fuck? I get around 3 megabytes per second on a flash drive transfer on 2.0

  • @KillerX3189

    me to hehehe xD

i think thats because he is just copying the file :s

  • around 55% faster...its great !!!

  • thats a messy desk

  • Guy USB 2.0 will do the job. It's not really about your USB device speed it's your HDD read and write speed. Sata read and write between 23mb/s to 120mb/s actual speed test from my machine. Now you can see, it's not the going to run 5GB/s. Plus your SATA HDD only running at 3GB/s. This test even proove slower than my computer, i'm running Raptor external drive. Don't want your money guy.

  • @jnnycliff 3 Gb/s for SATA II or Generation 2 if you read again the description box you would see that they use a SSD SATA HDD wich one SSD HDD are faster than normal HDD because they are Solid State Disk so the Write and Read is faster sorry THE FASTEST than normal HDD but the problem is that a SDD is a hell expensier than normal HDD , and second the SSD drive that they are using is a SATA III o SATA GEN 3 that runs at 6 Gb/s , do you think that they will use a normal HDD for the test?

  • @SYCKODELICUS SDD not all good. the speed will drope when more capacity take place from the drive. SATA 3 didn't make any different at all. USB3 also didn't make any different. Yes for gamiing might be a bit fun, but 2tb sata 2 64mb cache will perform better, not to mention it's cheaper than 128gb SSD drive. Ohh, how about raid 0 for 64mb cache drive? totally beat SATA3. Same money but out performant.

  • that is freaking slow.. i thought that 3.0 would be alot faster than that!

  • why is this faster then mine today i only got about 14 m/ps from my usb 2 and about 40 m/ps via sata

  • @dyl2210 depends on the hard disk and also whether it is defraged or not.

  • so this means there will no more loading in video games?

  • @Jermaine1986 if you look at computer history, you ll realize there will always be long loaders for newer powerful games. every time hardware companies improve performance, programmers abuse it like a drunken three-headed monkey. lol jk

  • how do u know if u have usb 3.0 on ur laptop

  • @keveydaking well, it has different design. if your laptop has usb 3.0 design, then it has!

  • @keveydaking USB 3.0 ports are blue

  • This guys voice is highly annoying.

  • @xnaturalxloserx

    I agree 100%

  • 3 times performance for 4 times the price.. thats Intel logics!

  • 105MB\SWOW
