Can you give us the low down on this product? bassically this is the first time ive ever seen one. i run a DnB projec where i trigger live ssounds and this would be an ace tool. im guessing all the samples can be changed and assigned to each "zone" of the pad? if thats how it works. like i said i have no idea. cheers man.
@monkeygames18 Exactly how it works! You can have anywhere from 1-7 zones. The mandala website will give you a good low down of it, with graphics to help you out. I would definitely look into this pad for your project; it'll be cool for your audience to see you grab a pair of sticks and play along to the music too (unless you're already using instruments and not just samples)!
This things kinda cool but the novelty wears off quickly, plus the guys that produce it are fucking assholes, when i asked why mine wasnt shipped on time yet they told me i was threatening them and the USA doesnt deal with threats..... fuckin corporate america at its best.....
synesthesia doesn;t suck, its the american governement customs, it take one day to get the drum to the border, then two weeks for them to take the thing apart and search it for drugs and send it to you broken or something,
Nothing's close. I know the technology of any available electronic drum. Ask me anything. The patented Mandala membrane switch has over 100 position rings and it's accurate every time it's actuated, with no false triggers like V-drums. Others claim to output position but they're lo-res and give false readings. Watch 'Testing Mandala USB Drum 2.0'. You can hear the position-based snare samples. It's a known fact that no available drum has the technology to do that accurately except the Mandala.
Funny they look exactly like alot of other demos ive seen, shows how limited it is, all sounds the same, honestly tho, you guys seem to be in love with the thing, ill leave you to your toys
Calm down. I DO love the pad and use it all the time. I haven't seen another pad with this amount of zones, the option to customize how many zones you use, and the absence of latency no matter what kind of condition your computer is in.
I respect your negative opinion; I guess this is just one of those things that isn't for everyone. You simply have to try one out to really understand it.
its actually not limited whatsoever... once you learn how to cusomize your own presets and add your own sounds its a whole other world... its fully programmable in every way. try one out for yourself Taud.. and if you have then you might need to actually learn how to program it to get its awesomeness. Fact 1: right out of the box it is an amazingly fun instrument OR toy for anybody! Fact 2: its a hardcore complex INSTRUMENT for the best musicians in the world.
@thelema3131 Its only a few hundred you idiot anyone could afford it.... its not worth in tho IMO terrible customer service and late shipping times followed by a really disappointing demo changed my mind on the purchase..... im review the product based on all those things
@thelema3131 LOL suck the companies dick already, u can read other ppl having problems with these things, its impossible for me to have a comp and the net and not afford a few hundred, and im not your guy, buddy.....
slow down guy...or buddy or whatever. i could read about other peoples problems but how does it apply to me who has had 3 for awile and never had any problems? It is definatly possible to own a computer and internet and not be able to afford a pad. besided whos to say your not at a public library or on your moms computer while stealing wifi from the neighbor or ect? you should really go away because your doing nothing but discrediting yourself.
@thelema3131 the average PC is about 1000$... moms computer? stealing wifi? wow quite the assumptions you make, yeah i actually care of your opinions.... if youre really that personal over your three plastic pads that youll get all butt hurt and keep sending me msges thats pretty discrediting to you yourself, anyways like i said, be happy with the company and the purchase, some of us have differing opinions obviously based on our own results
this version plugs right into the usb port on your computer. if you also have a midi interface plugged into your computer you can send the MIDI out there from the mandala to external equipment. even without any midi interface everything you play shows up as midi in other programs, like reason and live, etc.
Freakin nice man! hey thanks for the comment on my 'Buddha's Echo' setting. And yeah I'd seen this video before and actually already had saved it as a preset on my VB! lol. Funny how no matter if we have the same settings, we'd most likely never play the same rhythms or beats cuz it's all really infinite!! You definitely are a better drummer than me though. Pretty sick beats! :-)
Yeah, mine does it when I play them at the exact same time too. If I play a flam it doesn't do it though. If you play the two notes close enough it's barely noticeable that it's a flam. I understand your frustration.
The switch technology is continuous from center to edge so the slight flam is necessary for multiple zone hits 'at once'. The advantages of a switch like that are the high resolution, no dead zones, and never accidentally hitting a double trigger boundary between zones.
You should record another one... but use the output of your computer as the audio track... the stick impact kind of takes away from what you're playing.
are these all improv or written some how (if so how?) And did you come up with these names or are they names of the settings you're playing? Also, how is the response for rolls on the pad?
You can make it so the virtual brain plays a different note of a scale each time you hit a zone. For example, two of the zones in this video use an "up wave" pattern and two use a "down wave" pattern in the Ryukyu scale of F#. All the names are ones of the presets I used except for this video, because I made it myself. The response of the rolls doesn't feel quite as good as a real drum or a mesh-covered electronic drum, but it's pretty good if you ask me.
This makes me love Coors Light a little less...

Hey I have a mandala, just curious when you strike 2 zones at the exact same time does it cancel one sound out? Mine does and its very frustrating..

To be honest, I like the stick impact.. it adds to the rhythm. It would be cool to hear the nonstick version too though :)
Awesome playing Roldy.. do you have your presets uploaded anywhere?

try your rolls on two different mandalas with both of them in the same scale and setting and all that...
