  • very nice teaching. grt indeed. vry energetic. thanx. i am an indian classical vocalist.. benifitted from ur precious tip

  • @rishimukherjee1 great to hear!

  • you are smart. Thank you very much for this information. I truly needed this.

  • This is a very good thing to practice because it means your engaging your diaphragm and not just breathing into the chest cavity.

  • @thebunny14 awesome!

  • @thebunny14 how is that? Feeling the air on the soft palate is a sign of using diaphragm ?

  • Hey, i just started singing recently and I've noticed people classifying their voices with instruments like baritone and tenor ect.. How can I identify what type of voice I have?? and what's an accurate method of finding my current vocal range?? please and thank you!! :)

  • @grubsta Hey! Great question. Will do an episode on this soon...

  • Thank uuuuu!!!!!

  • And here I was thinking that it was because I have a broken nose 0.o Awkwarddd.....Thanks!!!

  • thankyou so much!

  • Great tip, thanks.

My sons, weary of my murdering various tunes, bought me "Singing for Dummies"- which didn't live up to it's title, as the part relating to the soft palate was difficult to understand.

The genius in many things, such as design, manufacturing or instruction, is not in complexity, it is in making complex thinsg simple, which is what you have acheived here. Many thanks.

  • @Jigaboo123456 Thanks! Glad you (and he) like the vids.

  • Using something that EVERYONE!!! does and applying it to a complex skill is THE BEST TEACHING METHOD, hands down!! Thank you SO much (-:

  • @jkdhoward Awesome! Glad I could help.

  • man, that yawm made me wanna do it continually.

  • @popups46okay it made you want to yawn continually?

  • @singingtelevision yes, I wont stop yawning after I saw that. It's weird I don't know if it happens to others too but when I saw someone who yawns.. I yawn too.

  • @popups46okay Yep, that's how yawns work. They're contagious!

  • So do you want to sing with your soft palate raised?

  • @biker5211 Yes! "Raised" is sort of a weird word for it, but you should feel like if you were chewing a piece of mint gum, when you breath your soft palate would feel VERY cold and minty. Does that make sense?

  • cute girl

  • *tries yawning* OMG! I CANT YAWN ON COMMAND!! XD

  • Hello, please help. I have been singing for a few months, I have my chest voice, but I can't access my head voice, so I have been told I'm pulling up into chest voice and raising my larynx and not keeping an open throat. Like for instance, I have the band, shinedowns range, but when he gets into higher notes, I squeeak out.

  • @nfarnham2008 Try talking like mickey mouse. You may sound high, weak, or airy/breathy, and that's okay for the moment. If you can imitate a cartoon, it may sound silly, but then try and sing on that same pitch.

  • @singingtelevision Okay, I will try that, thanks!

  • @nfarnham2008 sure thing!

  • @nfarnham2008 sure thing!

  • i wish my girl would use this knowledge in other parts of life

  • Like @stebolian i'm confused on how to keep your soft palate up while singing without staying in the yawn position or opening my mouth weirdly and its hard to sing like that

  • easy when you yawn, but trying singing words with the throat in the yawn position, im confused

  • @stebolian Hi! No, you're mouth isn't in a yawn position when you sing. You do the yawning position as an exercise you help you feel how to raise your soft palate and keep an open throat. Sorry for the confusion.

  • The best explaination Ive heard on this. Ive noticed though when I do this, It IMMEDIATELY drys out the back of my throat where I swallow. Is this sensation of dryness "normal?" and if it is, Isnt that condusive to good singing? Im not being argumentative on this point, just seeking clarification. Hope you can address this. Thanks.

  • @TheSubwaysurfer Hey subway surfer! sent you an email, but also, drink more water!
