@tutchthesky7 Ya. Well this board cost me about 15 bucks to make... Fiber glass would be at least triple that price. Plus I have no knowledge of how to use it.
@tutchthesky7 question? do you use just fiberglass to hold the board together with each sheet or do u use both clue an fiberglass? can u also possibly show me how to do this???
@akumathedevil345 use 16th inch maple, because it is easier to find than 1/8th inch or 1/4th inch, but u might also want to use some 1/8 inch or 1/4th inch birch or oak in between to make laminating and pressing easier
@khasson3 I made a press developed by server 2*4s cut into the desired shape and attached them all to a body piece of wood where I then placed them at different heights.
some helpful hints: your going to have trouble wothe clamping like this. it soesnt add proper force evenly down the length. you have pressure on the ends that is lost 1ft in from the clamps. so you dont have the same pressure in the center as the ends. the clamps your useing on the sides are giving direct pressure only and is loct about 6in from the clamp. your on the right track with the forming of your deck to retain shape, not worry, I started out the same way. good luck
ok thanks cuz my board is ready to be put into the press and its like 9 and 7/8 wide and im afraid its not wide enough and it will like crack or snap in the press and im using the same kind of press
Hi, i have a question. I have a mindless maverick longboard, but I'm not really happy with the deck. Do you think that i can ''cut'' another deck out of it??
@ItchyKoala2007 Well you bet incorrectly. I rounded the edges of the clamp. And as for the ones on the board, I placed plastic pieces between the clamp and the wood.
@Fearlessnippz 3 Layers of 1/8th inch baltic birch is a very snappy flexy board. If you want something more stable and aggressive I would suggest 4 or more.
@Fearlessnippz when i made my three i used two half inch pieces of Baltic and they're real fun to ride. i'm going to make another board and i might use Canadian Maple veneers 7 or 8 layers.
dro that board i was talkin about turned out grat i just had to make some wheel wells for the wheel bite....but plan ion making another really soon.. thanks fo rthe help
@yogiiish I used wood glue on that board ya. Epoxy is best however it is not vital. If you know how to fiberglass it will turn out great. Let me know how it ends up :)
@xperienceths The concave turned out great. If you are into sliding and that is the style of board you are gonna make I wouldn't go for the pintail like I did. However if your questions is strictly about concave, mine turned out great and holds its shape 100% with the 1/8th inch baltic birch I used. Any other questions?
@andresote182 Hey, I can't remember the specific name of the song but the band is called El Ten Eleven. They're a sick instrumental band, check them out!
@ginywiny Bonjour. Oui, je suis Canadien, m'est non je ne vie pas au Quebec. Je vie en Colombie Brittanique m'est je suis dans les cours de français immersion. Pourquoi?
Wood glue works perfectly fine feller. And since when does a longboard have to be water proof especially when the glue is inside the board and not on the surface at all. I did apply a waterproof finish...
you need something that will fill the pores in the wood..im not saying wood glue doesnt work but its not that strong. when you bluid a longer board your gonna need something stronger
Wood glue expands a tad, that's why it held the board the way it does in the shape it is after drying in the press. It was a 47 inch board, that's pretty long but whatever.
Gorilla Glue is good. It's fairly expensive and may cause a little bit of pressure cracking because it is a harder gluing glue but I know tons of people that have used it and they said it turned out great. I used simply LePage wood glue.
Certainly man. I know it's hard to see in the vid but there is a curvature in the board. The two pieces of wood running along the side make it so that when the center piece of the two 4*4 glued together push down on it, the board dries and finishes in a concave curve. If you have any further questions feel free to respond on this comment or e-mail. Thanks.
I actually got mine at a local wood warehousing thing. But depending where you live just call a place that sells wood before you actually go there because not a lot of places carry baltic birch. hope that helps.
So how thick did your board come out to be. You said that you used 3/8 baltic birch three layers of it. That would make your board 1 inch and 1/8 thick Isn't that to thick?
awesome press! if i were you i would make the side camber wood strips curved so that you could get a little bit of an arch on the board same with the top piece of wood... but overall an AWESOME VID!
Then if you want a springy fun ride with minimal speed wobbles but chance of pressure cracks and ply split build a 3 ply longboard with 8th inch baltic birch wood and enjoy!
I used 3/8th inch Baltic Birth. 3 Layers of it. If I were you, I would make it a 4 layer board tho cuz the 3 ply is only good if you are under 140 pounds, otherwise it's too springy.
You should cut the shape after gluing

@akumathedevil345 Ya it is just a basic wood glue and when applied correctly will work. For best results use an epoxy tho.

@akumathedevil345 Maple will make for a much more rigid board.
