I remember so vividly watching all of these fine singers. I was so excited seeing and hearing all of it that I crapped my pants right then and there!!!
My kids requested the Temptations this morning. Found I had NONE on my MP3 player! This was so great, must go buy some! I'm sure I have cassette tapes, but I miss this music! Tops and Temps!
FANTASTIC! Four Tops and five temps beats Michael Jackson anytime. Levi was great. I am often disappointed with the Temptations musically (always great choreography), but Dennis does tremendous on this. Just an awesome show-the best.
This is THE GREATEST video on Youtube!!!!!! I love both groups but i have to say that the Four Tops won that. Bring back music like this. We have lost the golden age of music.
When Male Singers sounded like Men singing and not effeminate eunuchs.. No one that grew up to these songs and singers can swallow the Horse shit the mu-suck industry is trying to pass on as music and talent today. Forget Obama care ...we need MOTOWN CARE.
I love this performance from beginning to end, everything about it. The Tempts and the Tops are two favorite groups of all time, and this was an excellent medley. Richard Street's spin at 1:08 is epic, and I really love the show of respect at the end. You would think that these two groups would be big rivals, but there was nothing but respect here. I love that.
This was real music. Motown was a beast and we will never ever see this kind of true talent again. Kudos to Mowtown and all the legendary and ground breaking artists.
@sexymixedbro the potential singers of this quality have to be out there. its just a question of how to find them because there are less venues to perform in these days. however i just want to say that when we talk of motown we tend not to acknowledge the prolific writers of all those classic songs as well as the performers.
i think if the classic five were challenging four tops, they would whip their asses, but four tops are good though, but temptations classic five were better
@sassicat1972 Me too man. I not only sat there with a HUGE smile but I also sat there with a HUGE turd in my trousers where I got so excited and crapped my pants!
great lookin back to some clasic songs !!!! you appreciate what talent their was around, compared to the churned out crap of tday!!! .... Thats my opinion anyway lol!
i know right that would of been sad dont me get me wrong i love the four tops they got some of my favorite songs but if they were there it would of been a massacure lol
@tantanbabiii Let's see... Ron Tyson (falsetto voice) He was practically new to the group. Richared Street took over for Paul Williams back in 1971. Dennis Edwards, of course replaced David Ruffin back in 1968. Otis and Melvin were in the group from the start.
All were great. I think Levi stood out in this and Melvin was on fire, with his bass. I also believe Melvin was one of the biggest reasons for the Temps continued success, when they started letting him take small leads; ie Can't Get Next to You, Run Away Child, Psycedelic Shack.
It is a shame that there aren't any GREAT soul/ r&b groups such as these producing GREAT songs/sounds from the Motor City or ANYWERE anymore. My heart aches when I hear this music. This was entertainment and this was MUSIC! Not the
vulgar-filled rap trying to be passed off as music.
I am a 63 year old male. Had my own band for several years. This was music pure and simple. It made you happy. It made you feel good. No hate,no profanity. I sure wish someone of todays generation could come up with something without all the vulgarities and hate.
was a young child when my dad made me watch this show (i was born in '81), and i'm glad he did. I grew up with this music and still love it, unlike most of my friends who don't even know this music.
I miss both these groups terribly. I used to see the Four Tops at the Hammersmith Odeon in the 70s. It's that dreadful thing isnt it .... TIME. Gets us all in the end. Levi Stubbs final years were so sad because he couldnt do what he did best, and that's sing. The stroke had taken his voice.
The Tops switched up the formula by having the baritone part sing the melody, giving them a unique sound. The Temps had all five voices sing different verses, using their full range often within the same song. To me, they're both fantastic.
omggg i love this video!!! both groups are so amazing!!! i have loved this type of music oldies/soul/motown....stuff like that for everrrr so i just love this!!!!! :D
@nizwaniii This is classic and it is not going anywhere. This is basically the only type of music I listen to besides gospel. Motown, soul, rhythm & blues (not RAP), disco, and funk is not going anywhere.
I don't see this as a battle between the Temps and the Four Tops, I look at this as each group making the other better and giving the fans great music between the two legendary groups.
Other than the original Classic line-up of the Four Top (David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin) , this was maybe their next best lineup (Richard Street, Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Melvin Franklin and Dennis Edwards)
still sounding great and still looking great...I love motown music.. sure beats some of the music of today. My chinese canadian friends don't know what they're missing. I'd date one of these guys. I love the dance moves. pure entertainment. brings back great memories.

One can only wonder what was going through the minds of David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks,
