  • Sigh. I just want to lick him.

  • Oooohhh...... the way he looking at her

  • Kiera's Lizzy was more flirty or almost needy.. Ehle's Lizzy was right on the money.. She was challenging and that's exactly what Mr. Darcy fell in love with.. The moment she turned down his invitation to dance he was hooked. No girl would ever turn mr. Darcy! But she did and it made her interesting to him... I love that.

  • My goodness, he does stare! But he's Mr Darcy. He can get away with it.

  • The BBC adaptation is more true to the novel (excepting the scene with the lake, but who could complain about that?) and the attention to detail is brilliant however the film's implied passion and Kiera's playful rendition of Elizabeth gives a whole new and doubtabley modern yet not undesirable percpective on the classic. I love both but for very different reasons.

  • I agree with you, yorkiecat4002, nobody smoulders quite like Colin Firth!! I have seen both & didn't like Kera Knightley's Lizzy, although I thoroughly enjoyed the film (despite the glaring inaccuracies in the way it prtrayed the Bennets). If you read the book, Jennifer Ehle portrays Lizzy just as Austen wrote her, she isn't as playful as Knightley made her, in fact Lizzy is quite wilful & decidedly fond of her own opinions of people (hence the Prejudice in the title to Darcy's Pride).

  • i actuay prefer all the characters from the film, especialy keira, she played it wonderfully, but the serie's mr darcy is the best darcy ever to be played!!! if only colin was the movie's darcy!!!

  • kiera made a better elizabeth.. more playful

  • What song georgiana plays same time when lizy and miss bingley talking?

  • For the first 50 times that I watched this scene, I was swooning so much I didn't even notice that when Lizzie plays the instrument, it sounds like a harpsichord, and when Georgiana does, it sounds like piano. Did the editors think we wouldn't watch it enough to notice?

  • Argue at length but i still find this BBc addaptation of Brontes Pride & Prejudice to be the most successful of any period dramas that's been on British television.

The BBC stuck to the script and didnot deviate from it with acting and period sets to rival anything seen before or since.

Colin Firth and Jennifer Elle are magnificent.

  • @llandudnoboy Brontes? I think you mean Austen.

  • @Bellatrix22 and Jennifer *Ehle* lol nothing else wrong apart from those two little things ;)

  • affected British effeminate wank. YSF

  • I love their eye sex!

  • Look how happy he looks. Ahhh *faints*

  • God. This is romance in its most perfect form.

  • It's a british drama, so of course this is sung in english!

  • I watch this clip whenever I need a reminder of what real love should look like. :)

  • This scene is even better than The Lake Scene :)

  • the way he stares at her, oh my god, it's unbelievable.

  • his stare kills me. does he ever blink?

  • His smile is the background on my laptop. Scream every time i see it.

  • 2:21 probably my favorite scene in this whole movie!

  • This is my favorite scene in the entire series! Never saw another actor convey true love with just a look.

  • I just keep playing 0:00-0:09 on repeat.

  • eye fuck!

  • One of my favorite scenes of the series. That Colin Firth look... <3

  • Who'se voice is it? It is not Jennifer's is it?

  • He is beautiful :O

    So. jealous. of. her.

Wish a boy could stare at me like that. :'(

  • How is it that i've seen this minie series a dozen times and only NOW do I realize that the same actress who plays Georgianna also plays Morgause on Merlin?

  • 2:27 -> Admit it, ladies (and a few selected gents), you would rip your own clothes off and let Firth have his savage way with you if ever he gave you that look. I know I would :)

  • my favourite scene of all time! Lord, what I might do to get a look like that from a man :)

  • Comment removed

  • LOL mr. hurst @1:55

  • who sings voi che sapete? Jennifer Ehle or a singer?

  • I wish Colin Firth would look at me that way. I would sigh and faint straight into his arms.

  • @ALDERMANOFFOUNTALL The most precious gift a girl can give to the man that becomes her husband: my virginity! Is that enough?

  • @paieusuntasta "Virginity" is overrated; it's not a gift, merely a lack of previous sexual experience. The most precious gift you have to give is your love and respect - virginity is only prized by men who feel insecure and have a need to be the only man their wife has ever known. Unless he's able to say you're the only woman he's ever known, don't worry about it.

  • @PrettyBonesArt Virginity is the most important for me because I have strong christian values. And I will merry only someone who believes the same. Even if you'll think I am a kind of freak and old fashioned, I don't care. Maybe that is why I like P&P so much because it promotes pure, romantic love and not sexual lust like the movies today.

  • @paieusuntasta I certainly don't think you're a freak, just wanted to encourage you not to feel that virginity, which isn't a quality or talent or skill of any kind, is the "most precious" thing you have to offer. If your belief system leads you to feel that having been sexually intimate with only your husband is important, that's great, but the fact of the matter is that virginity is merely a lack of having done something, and is only considered important in certain cultures.

  • @PrettyBonesArt I hate to intrude, but I must disagree with that comment. Virginity is not the lack of having done something. It means having the perseverance, self-control, and choosing NOT to do that something. Women who save themselves for marriage aren't doing it because of men's "insecurity". They're doing it because they have dedication to that one man. It's true that love is the greatest gift you can give. But saving yourself is a special commitment that reflects that love.

  • @ArgentumHorse In certain cultures, namely those that have traditionally viewed women as the de facto property of their husbands, that has become the accepted idea - that "saving" yourself for the supposedly one and only man you'll ever love is a sign of being a "good girl". In many cultures, women's sexuality was considered as important as men's, and virgins were considered undesirable because they felt it was evidence she was frigid or just unattractive to men.

  • @ArgentumHorse #2 - one of the cultures that viewed women as the property first of their fathers, then of their husbands, has given us the Judeo-Christian tradition, which has obviously spread globally and colors the entire Western culture. We think of these ideas as "normal" because they've been around for 2000 yrs, but if you had grown up in another culture where sexuality is considered a natural part of everyone's life and not solely the right of married people, you would have a different

  • @ArgentumHorse #3 perspective. None is more "right" than any other - they're all relative. When boys & men face the same pressure to remain "pure" for their future wives, I'll be more open to the idea of women reciprocating, but as it stands now, it's very uneven. That being said, everyone must make their own decisions, & if you truly believe you'll love only one man as long as you live and wish to remain a virgin for him, good for you. Hope he reciprocates...

  • @ArgentumHorse I respect your opinions, but please do consider what @PrettyBonesArt said. "Virginity" is a burden that has been foisted primarily on women as a way to control and shame them. It is well and fine if YOU want to save yourself for one man, but please don't be sanctimonious about it towards other women. It is a sickening double standard men can sleep with whomever they please, all while casting women aside as "tainted" if they do the same.

  • @PrettyBonesArt Damn straight! Though, paieusuntasta's thought have some sense, movies promote lusty love rather than pure love.

  • Where can I find a Mister Darcy, so gentle, so handsome and rich like him to make me his wife?

  • Colin Firth was incredible but You must see that Jennifer Ehle was amazig too!!

  • *sigh* :)

  • Please, I need to know the name of the music Georgiana plays secondly... it's so beautiful! Anyone knows, please?....

  • @romantikscent I believe that's Beethoven's Andante Favori, WoO 57 :)

  • well thats my sexual fantasy women now days .But annoying twats still the same as ever.

  • Bless. Look, he's almost smiling. One of about three times over the entire course of the series. Love it. XD

  • very good scene. I love Lizzy and Georgina here, but I just can't get used to Colin Firth. I'm sorry, don't scratch my eyes out for this, I think he is a very talented actor but I just don't find him attractive or charming at all.

  • @77sakunarusasu92 you see, at first I couldnt find Firth so handsome too. but, I dont know if it was his wonderful acting or what, but I already think he is very attractive :)

  • I just love the effect she has on him- how even after that ill fated comment, he cannot help it. He just relaxes and smiles at her.

  • He is very attractive indeed.A real genleman!

  • definitely like this version colin firth plays his character well and does an excellent job..

  • I dare anyone NOT to grin like a complete idiot during the first 9 seconds or so of this video...That look and that smile are the only changes I would want added on to the book...But I've seen this series so many times and read the book so many times that my imagination can take over completely. Now when I watch this, my mind adds on all the scenes from the book that aren't in here; and when I read the book, I can see Colin firth and Jennifer ehle it out b4 my eyes...aah bliss!

  • 2:35 Angelic face :D

  • oh, i wanna know so badly, what song is miss Darcy playing in the end? Please tell !!!

  • @Iwillprmise Miss Darcy follows Elizabeth's aria with Beethoven's Andante in F (also known

    as the Andante Favori).

  • I love how Miss Bingley listens very hard for any mistake Lizzy might make :)

  • I can not believe I never realized that the song she is playing/singing at the piano is Mozart! I just have never heard "Voi che sapete" in english before...

  • I just love the whole story it doesn't matter which movie, the book beats all. I've already condemned myself to the fate of never marrying anyone unless they can embody all that is Mr. Darcy.

  • @kimikoeyes you and me buddy

  • Mr. Darsy was my idle growing up, he still is, what a fine gentlemen.

  • I love it!

  • Mr. Darcy's stare and smile just made my heart stop beating!!!

  • @hopelessromantic1311 That's because he is the biggest ladies man ever, so handsome. A true gentlemen.

  • I have never seen a more smoldering stare in my entire life!

  • @yorkiecat4002 absolutely

  • Did BBC just say "bitchy"? LOL.

  • @iHeartAniime *double take* *eyes widen* Er, yes, yes it did. *jaw drops to the floor* WOW.

  • @iHeartAniime I laughed the second I saw that too! :P

  • This has to be my favourite scene! The expression on Colin's Mr. Darcy is just breath-taking. And I mean that in a literal sense. I am sure I could stare at that face right here for hours. It sparkles with such genuine love!

  • The book never comments on it, but this scene REALLY makes it clear how much of a gaffe it was for Caroline to mention Wickham. Small wonder Darcy never married her....

  • wow, the magic in the air :0

i really liked the visuals and music for the 2005 movie, but the acting for this version is just amazing.

  • omfg. Hi, a very young Emilia Fox! Had no idea she was in this.

  • OMG 0:02 -LUSH!!!!

  • Prefer the movie. Just my opinion :)

  • and the 6 dislikes are all caroline...

  • that smile.... I'm melting :) COLIN IS MINE!!!!

  • @mrsdarcy94 No, he's MINE!! haha! :) Imagine how many young women would fight for him if they could!! lol

  • This series was my gateway drug to Jane Austin books... and the actors here are the best... I can't imagine these characters looking like anything but Jennifer and Colin... their gazes alone are breathtaking...! And the music... perfection. Utter perfection.

  • @margarbeast, this series has been the downfall of many a lady and gentleman--to the delights of Austen, the getting of wisdom only she, sly social critic that she was, can provide. I fear that as a "gateway drug", this P&P can best be called a narcotic.

  • This serie just grows on you .. Really. At first I was all like: The mom is so annoying (as she should be) and the hair and the clothes is so ugly! But then I was all like.. I LOVE MR. DARCY!

Colin Firth does an excellent job! - The best Mr. Darcy of all times.

  • @LizzieDoodle16 The genius of her replies is the way that she remains perfectly polite while showing up the Bingley sisters as bitchy and vain. Caroline particularly shows herself up by insulting Lizzy with Darcy's (and Georgiana's) least favourite person - Wickham - while trying to impress Darcy, so not only is she insulting Lizzy, who Darcy is in love with, but she is hurting Georginana by mentioning Wickham. Not the best way to get to his heart.

  • @LizzieDoodle16 However, the best moment in this scene, (and arguably the entire series) is at 2:22 - 2:28, because it is Lizzy's silent signal to Darcy that she believes him about what Wickham did to Georgiana, that she trusts him, and ultimately, loves him. That is why the series is generally considered better than the movie, as it has all of Austen's own subtle signals and clever wit, almost directly from the book. (Which I have read around 5 times, so I will call myself an Austen fan!)

  • @Elriaen only five? ;)

  • @kkmaye :P Am I allowed to call myself an Austen fan as I have read it so few times?

  • Omg, I don't remember any of this. I need to watch this version again. NOW! :O

  • Seriously want to bitchslap Miss Bingley in his scene. Lizzy is so quick-witted and socially graceful here! And Darcy is a dreamboat, but that hardly needs to be said.

  • I loved this song and her voice...simply beautiful.

  • how much does it cost to hire an oscar winning actor? i would like to hire collin firth for two minutes so he can look at me like he does lizzy in this scene....LOL!

  • I grew up with this series, so I pretty much know it by heart. But now that I am older ...that smoldering look from Mr. Darcy ( Collin Firth) .......it's almost to much to bare!! *swoon*

  • Oouuhhh THAT look from Colin Firth!!!! Could melt a tonne of steel!!! Hottttttttttt Hottttttttttttttttttttt Hottttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!

  • @JennyG61 I know! For that look I would sing and player forever to him!!! :)

  • oh god THOSE EYES!!!...i melt if those eyes would stare at me face to face...and for one thing i do not care if colin firth is old...he is still gorgeous as ever... ;)

  • is that duck face from four weddings and a funeral??

  • those eyes... christ

  • Miss Bingley's eyebrows are scary =(

  • @ThePurpleTurtle LOL I was thinking the same thing.

  • I was impressed just beautiful song.

UP you for video, thank you.

  • Beautiful scene. Excellent choice of music and feelings so perfectly played.

  • *Lizzy ends the play*

    *Darcy looks up*

*two adoring pairs of eyes pointing in his direction*

    XD

  • Does anyone know the name of the piece Georgiana plays?

  • I've allways seen Colin Firth in his Movies, where he is older.

I didn't know he is so sexy!

  • Love this scene, but my favorite one is the one after, when he wanders back into the music room late at night, reminiscing of the moment they caught eyes.. Zowweee!

  • Oh my, it's a very very young Emilia Fox

  • That look he gives her at the end just warms my cockles. :) Songs

  • My favourite scene FOREVER!!!!

  • A good Miss Bingly . I want to beat her over the head with something. lol She really doesn't get Mr. Darcy if she thinks he will approve of her visciousness. I think she just killed any respect he might have had toward her. What I don't get is the writers putting in the bit about, "and as you know, he's never wrong." YUK Lizzy would never say that. / It's funny that these women wore such modest lengths but were almost falling out of their tops. Poor men! :) Songs

  • I used to think Mathew MacFayden the best Darcy ever.

Now i have scene the BBC and.... Oh my God! I have to say Colin Firth really impressed me with this. :)

    <3333

  • did you notice jenifer ehle in king speech.colin firth took oscar she played very very small role as wife of dr.speech.

  • I can't help but sigh and melt at Mr. Darcy's smile!!!

  • @golachica1311 An excellent actor who can go through this whole bit and "speak" with body language alone. :)

  • Colin Firth was my first......Matthew MacFadyen my second.....and Elliott Cowan my third!!!! MR. DARCY that is.................yummy, yum, yum!

  • Mr Darcyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • I just melted...

  • Have watched this millions of times but the intensity never fades. If you watch it in conjunction with the previous scene where Georgiana invites her to play, the immediate jump cut to Colin's look just knocks you over with its intensity. Very well-crafted build of love and understanding between the two characters.

  • In the book isn't Georgiana the good one and Elizabeth the one resisting?

  • i dont like this actress playing elizabeth, is so bitter and unagreable, i wonder why darcy fall for her, she looks near her 30s instead of her 20s like the original character, no wonder why i didnt see her anywhere again

  • @cristinawilligs That's her character in the book, and she was actually in The King's Speech.

You should read the book. :) It's really good (and I think you'd like Jennifer Ehle better if you read it). I think she plays Lizzy quite well.

  • @berrykit i readed the book thats why i dont like this actress, lizzy is in her twenties, and this actress is in her late twenties or oass thirty, i also dislike the expression of her face, i wonder why she had two proposals

  • @cristinawilligs Oh. I don't know. I personally think she plays Lizzy well, but I've never really observed closely.

  • He's exactly twice my age. Don't care. I'd hit it.

  • Sorry for my english, but I just wanted to say that I've always watched just the Keira's movie versione of Pride and Prejudice but....my god...this is soooo much better!!!!! So much similiar at the book...and this Mr Darcy (that honestly at the beginning I didn't like) is sooo perfect as Mr Darcy....in this video expecially!! I finally can see him exactly how "I feel him" in the book...It is difficult to explain it expecially in another language :P....but THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!!!

  • @TheAngieDee You explained it very well! Better than many who grew up speaking English!

  • @janet444 Really???? :D Thank you so much! I'm mostly happy that someone understood what I meant ^_^

  • @TheAngieDee Yes, I understood. And I agree!

  • As a huge Pride and Prejudice fan, I made the unhappy mistake of watching the 2005 movie first. The film is good, I'll grant you that, but not a masterpiece by any stetch of the imagination. Lizzy lacks presence, Darcy lacks charisma. When compared to the BBC version, the movie seems a bit shallow.

I have now become completely intoxicated with the BBC version, and believe I watch all 6 episodes at a stretch at least once a week. Sad, I know, but... Colin Firth's Darcy? RAWR!

  • @sinharat Good ending for a scene! I think the film has good things but BBC series are 100% loyal to the book and the actors create the tension needed for the story.I hated the book when I studied it at Uni but after watching the series I fell in love with it. I watch P+P as people eat comfort food or use comfort ...alcohol.Today we had such tense meeting at work that a member of staff was taken to hospital in an ambulance(not exagerating, real life)and what was my getaway?P+P evening! Sad?maybe!

  • @sinharat ^THIS. SUCH TRUTH

  • @sinharat I agree 100%, I was raised on the BBC version of the story and so the 2005 movie, well, I couldn't stand it to be honest. It's always refreshing to know other people have experienced what I think in my bias is the "true" movie adaptation

  • @sinharat Everybody have their obsession. I'm simply not impressed with the series, I like them but certainly don't see why Colin Firth is so hot. Certainly a great actor but he doesn't make that 'bang' for me...Enjoy your weekly view!

  • Colin Firth was the most favourite actor even before I saw this wonderfull TV serie... After watching Pride and Prejudice I'm sure he remains undoubtely my most favourite actor forever :)

  • That was EVERY single time

  • That smile… I've seen this version about 9 billion times and it's gets me very single time. I love Colin. He's the perfect Mr. Darcy -3

  • I love this scene. First Darcy's look of tender love and then their mutual glance. It is my favourite scene. CF and JE are exactly the Darcy and Elizabeth I imagined while reading the book.

  • This cheers me up/makes me melt every time.

  • Now I understand why I felt in love with Colin Firth as an actor. I can see Darcy's love in his eyes while Lizzie is singing, he is like "oh my god this woman is amazing, I know why I'm in love with her...". Just incredible. Thanks for posting it ♥

  • ♥ Colin Firth ♥

BAFTA...! Academy Award next ? Oh please !

    ! I hope you've all seen The King's Speech...

  • I love the look Hurst gives Darcy at 00:35

    I didn't mean Hurst...the other man... oops :)

  • I love the look Hurst gives Darcy at 00:35

  • Comment removed

  • is Ehle actually singing? Is that her real singing voice? It's beautiful!

  • Mr. Berg, or whatever his name is--the chap who passes out in the corner, is a vegetable!

  • Xxtheshadow: well it was actually tht the women who's boobs showed were those of high class! Wierd but true!

  • @arsah17 they were the only ones clean enough to show off,,,

  • I can't choose between Colin and Matthew. Really. Actually I don't want to. I love them both.

  • I like colin firth as mr. darcy... but i like keira knightley more as lizzy.

And the costumes in this movie... hate it... the dresses pushed their boobs up... doesn't look like the century.

  • This is my favorite Pride and Prejudice. I truly love this scene. Thank you for the upload.

  • Colin Firth as Mr Darcy is the reason all nonfiction men kinda don't live up to my ideas....

  • I love the way he look! <3

  • does anyone know the title of this music?

  • @happyddesigns Yes its the marriage of Figaro :)

  • @Jumping7Jordan7 thank you so much!!!

  • @happyddesigns Yes, it's from Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro). It is an "arietta" which in Italian is called "Voi, Che Sapete" (You, that know...). Cecilia Bartoli sings it beautifully if you are interested in hearing another rendition.

  • @Haldir1970 thank you so much for the detailed info!

  • I grew up with this version and Colin Firth was my first actor crush... this whole movie is so subtle, full of tension and undercurrents and wonderfulness. Thank you BBC!!! Thanks for posting this!

  • @welshpuppy44 the 2005 version is better though

  • @thejolene100

while watching this version of p&p - I find myself constantly wanting to touch mr. darcy's hair...

  • @Spikesfeet OMG me too! Especially at the end of the 4th hour when he's talking to her in front of her carriage...

  • this lizzy has massive boobs

  • @lizontopoftheworld

lol I have to admit that at this particular scene I'm somewhat distracted by a natural assets as well...

  • i prefer Keira Knightley as Lizzy xD

  • ¡Oh! Yo quiero un Darcy como Colin Firth.... aunque me hablara todo el tiempo en inglés y sólo entendiera la mitad....

  • That look at the end was so marvelous, and so faithful to the unsaid romance that's in the book; and I think it was greatly helped by the music, which resolved out of dissonance at the exact moment the camera catches Darcy's shoulders falling in a relaxed, dreamy sort of sigh.

  • Doesn't ANYONE agree with me that there has not been one single good-looking dreamy Mr.Darcy in any of adaptions? No offence, but in my head while reading the book I had a MUCH better looking version of him.

  • @dongtian00 I will not put a thumbs down on this because you have the right to your opinion but have you seen the version with Sir Lawrence Olivier? I saw it 45 years ago on late night tv and have compared men to him ever since. :) So glad to find it here on YT after all this time. Colin is handsome but over all I like the charm and wit of SLO better. When he grabs and kisses his stuffy aunt, it is SO funny. :)
