Productivity is a result of Efficiency, and not energy efficiency like some are talking right now, but COMPLETE Efficiency...if you don't know the Baselines of your business how can you improve it?... if your Equipment isn't kept and operated properly how can you depend on it?...if your organization has no effective worker’s communication & training how can you get people to do the right things?...get it? Process, Equipment, Personnel, the core elements... get the Industrial Efficiency Triangle.
The machine was simply called "the tape laying machine" by Electroimpact, the company that built it. I believe this was shot at the Fredrickson facility South of Seatac. They have autoclaves big enough to park a school bus in down there.
@plusminustwo Actually, it's not 'filament winding.' Filament winding, while related is a unique process. Filament winding was the father of 'automated fiber placement.' Composite materials are wrapped similarly, but AFP is more advanced, and can perform functions filament winding cannot.
hey thanks for uploading this. is this at Vought? or Boeing....now that they bought them out. ive actually seen the fiber placement machine at MAG Cincinnati but with a much wider tows.
The material they are using to build the fuselage is a composite of carbon fibres and a binding agent that allows them to stick together. Once enough layers are built up, as you can see from the barrel being rolled, it is baked in a massive oven to harden.

@datzfast Adds and drops of fiber-tows, localized buildups, placement of fiber down-through concave tool profiles.
