I own an MS 360 and just tried a MS 660 today. All I can say is I do not understand why people think that the 660 is too big for general firewood and large house cleanups. The saw weighs only 2.5 lbs more and cuts faster with allot more power. I may pickup a 660 and try using that in place of the 360.
@mictrik Good luck with that. I had a 361, it weighed out at 17 lbs. with a 20" bar, my 660 weighs 23 lbs. with a 25". Not nearly the 2.5 lbs difference your claiming.
@Michslpgt Well, I think you have to weigh the powerhead by itself when making a comparison, for I would use the shortest bar to do the work. By Stihl's claims there is a 3-3.5lb difference in weight. Now if you place a heavier bar well of course it will weigh more. However, you a much more limited with the 360, 361, or 362 than you are with a 660 in terms of bar size. My point is that I found the 660 (i think the bar was around 28-32") to be fine to handle and it cuts faster.
@Michslpgt - Probably power head to power head... My 361 is 12.3 lbs and a 660 16.5 lbs (non-wrap) Of course the 660 has bigger fuel & oil tanks and like you said yours, most typically run a larger bar. So yea weight in the woods is different.
@mictrik I agree with you 100%, I had the same experience when I tried this saw at a friends house. I'd love to have one. For a little extra weight you get a ton more capability, well said
Cmon dude, that is kind of a lame question. i have run saws enough that I get tired of running them. If i werent in school right now, my ass would be asleep for work the next day. But instead I fuckaround with a bunch of smart morons on the internet, MAN I am slipping.
Keep telling your self that, because If you really fell trees, your time on earth is short. I never found someone who remains blissfully unaware of danger, and walks right into it intentionally. But here you are! Stay in school though, it'll save your life.... You are clearly the moron by the way!
You are the dumb ass. you apparently know everything about me baised on some youtube comment. That is insane there, really just stupid as hell. I have avoided countless accidents. I have worn chaps alot, (I had to). I have not worn chaps alot. i have yet to cut my legs. So far I havent had anything worse than a daze from a sprung sapling. I just filled out my W-2, logging is no way for stupid people to make money, I did ok though. So save your danger jank for someone else & geta life. .
HES GOT A HAT ON, there have been millions of men that cut timber 8+houts a day for mist of there able bodied lives. They ran chainsaws that weighed up to & over 100 lbs, they did not have chain breaks, they did not have chaps or alot of other safety equipment, but they all werent getting there limbe cut off. . .
but they DID have common sence. . . Running a saw can be done very safely witout the allmighty chaps.
The hard had is the most important. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
You know? I just have to say, your right, men didn't have the safety gear way back when, that we have today. But now we do! And if so choose not to wear it, then I personally find that lacking good sense, or simply foolish. But to each his own, right?
Look! I didn't mean to attack you, but chainsaws now are different from the old saws. They perform at much higher RPM's, and have a lot more torque. And now theres safety gear! I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to reduce the risk of getting Fucked up.
I have never seen a big saw kickback but i'm told it's a good habit to kneel when finishing a cut close to the ground so that your neck isn't in line with the bar.
you should only use RSF chain in large soft wood timber. Like west coast applications. It is a great combination you have with the saw and chain. But, it really is not supposed to be used with cutting hard wood! Where are your chaps?
Was this log already cut on the other side? If it was 40" like you said, you couldn't cut it in one pass. Seems like the saw went into the wood a little too easily at the start of the cut. I have same saw, same chain.
The outer 3" or so was kinda soft, so with the over-buck at the beginning of the cut I was able to cut the whole diameter while staying on one side. You dont necessarily need to have a matching sized bar to cut while standing on one side. If you over-buck you can do it. The 3" of soft stuff is why the beginning of the cut was easy as well. When the whole bar starts cutting thats when she slows down a little bit. I sharpen/touch up my chains quite often so they're always razor sharp.
It looks like you're using chisel chain. There are some good sized chips coming out of your saw. You must file your rakers down so they are not getting in the way of the tooth.
You can start the saw on the side away from you, then move the tip down until you cut it clean through. Then you move up to the top and begin making your downward cut. That way you can cut the entire piece with one cut.
Nice saw. Drop a plastic felling wedge into the kerf once you're half way through the log and it'll stop the bar from getting caught up at the end of the cut.
I have a question. Do you have or ever tried out the ms460? If so, could you please tell me if the 660 is worth more money (by performance) than the 460? In other words, do you think the 660 should be that much more than the 460?
Before I bought the 660, I was also considering the 460. I wanted something that could pull the 36" bar in hardwoods, so I picked the 660. Havent looked back yet. It all depends on what you're cutting.
are you cutting trees big enough to justify a 660 regualrly?????I got a good deal on my 066(same saw) used, but I think I would be served better with a 460 most of the time
Very nice !!!

more torque will buck a 50 lb saw over your head, lots of speed in a lighter saw will not be nearly as voilent.
o56kid 1 year ago
@o56kid
Well now that just defies the laws of physics.
Theweirdchainsawguy 1 year ago
they had more torque back in the day. Old gear saws could shear pto crank ends off they had soo much torque. That means more lick back..
o56kid 1 year ago
@o56kid
So, more torque equals more kickback, and more RPM's don't?
Theweirdchainsawguy 1 year ago
@o56kid
theres a lot of missing logic in that statement!
Theweirdchainsawguy 1 year ago
And where is the missing logic exactly? why dont you elaborate for me. .
o56kid 1 year ago
@o56kid
Why would I elaborate on the physics of my theory? Even if I conveyed my point brilliantly, you would still tell me how stupid the theory is.
The best thing for me to do at this point is to simply give up. Besides! I'm losing interest......

That chain is moving 13500 RPM's, if that were to even touch your flesh, You could obviously lose your leg, or you could easily die from infection.

No chaps? That saw will take your leg off before you reailize you've made a mistake.
And your eyes- what's protecting them? At the very least, put your visor down.
Be carefull!
