from my understanding each color is a separate channel. In your case having one in a yellow, and one in a black. you would have each stick on an independent channal versus sharing one. although im wrong sometimes.
What malzuko is saying is that by having the ram in same color slots would enable dual channel mode thus getting the most of what you got with out doing any thing else.
