The cross game chat is fun for friends and the fact that all my friends never played PS3 so they bash me for getting one. I try to convince them but they're too "fanboyish" to even consider. The only reason I even setup my 360 anymore is because my friends sold their souls to Xbox Live's annual charges.
In my opinion, there is little difference between the services. Judging by the name, you may call me a fanboy, but that's just not true (any more :P). My PS3 gave me the YLOD last year and I decided to buy a new 360 slim- and I must say, going into a game with friends 'en masse' is extremely easy, voice messaging is much more effective than using a keyboard to PM people. I have more customisation options on XBL, I get map packs first, if I go into an RDR lobby on PSN, I struggle to find 6 peopl
Xbox 360 has a better online community than PlayStation 3, therefor I go with XBL, because its more social, better community, more safe and faster (better connection). I'm currently using an ethernet cable connected to my Xbox to go online and I even download stuff and buffering videos on YouTube and it works fine.
When it comes down to it, I really believe PSN is better. Pretty much everything is the same price on both online services, but with XBL, you still have to pay the monthly/yearly fee, so you're actually paying more for the same thing. PSN has a web browser which allows you to go to almost every website on the web. The online gaming seems identicle on both PSN and XBL for me, besides the "Cross game chatting" on XBL, which isn't that big of a deal, & you have good quality servers on PSN as well.
I do quite enjoy the fact that the yearly fee doesn't exist on PSN, saving me moniez, but thinking about people like me to whom the yearly fee goes by pretty much unnoticable, you've got to admit that paying for Xbox Live subscriptions is an excellent business strategy on Microsoft's behalf, and for that I congratulate them. Sure, it may piss off the consumer when they realise that they've got to pay for a yearly subscription again, but Microsoft know that they're going to get that money again.

@DatMasta96 The only difference between an fps and an rpg is weapon style. 1 magic spell vs 20bullets a second. Processing power has nothing to do with it. The only thing preventing fps's from having mass multiplayers is hackers. If people didn't hack they could make your xbox / psn do the damage calculating and then send THAT to other players. Besides if mag has 256 players than that proves any game can do it. Even if they made it easy and dropped it to 64 players. They just don't program it.

XBL (Xbox Live) Meaning the network, the internet. Yes, it is superior to PSN (Playstation Network) the network, the internet. Xbox 360 has it's advantages, but it has a lot of disadvantages. Playstation has some advantages, but less disadvantages. PSN is slow, XBL is fast. Playstation 3 has not killed any games, scratched or itself die. (Fact) The Xbox has done all that. Thanks to my 360, I don't have LP2, Kane's Wrath, or Chromehounds. Music ingame on 360, PS3 no. I can say more....

PSN does offer a lot, especially considering it's free. That said, Sony should be charging for the PSN. I mean look at how much money Microsoft has made off of Live. They obviously shouldn't charge as much as Live, but at least 20-30$. Having it free clearly isn't giving them much of an upper hand on the 360 anyways.
PSN being free is a BIG selling point for the PS3. It is usually the deciding factor for many when it comes down to deciding which system you will walk out with the store with.

Well you have to consider that the PS3 was 100-200 dollars more expensive for most of 2009. The PS3 slim came out with the price drop only with a couple months left of the year.
I and so many other people will not PAY to PLAY online. However, their are rumors of a subscription based "extra" service coming to PSN. PSN will still allow free online multiplayer, though.
Live has facebook and twitter, which are much better on live than on the PSN. It has avatar games and Premium themes. You can also buy Full games on Live and trials of arcade games, make 8 person parties on and always stay connected with them, whether you are watching a movie, playing games, or just browsing the dashboard. Live also comes with a head set.. so that combined with cross game chat makes live much better for chatting as well.

Doesn't Halo 3 use dedicated servers? HOWEVER, what sometimes happens when someone quits the game?? Screen goes black, they leave, game starts again. Same thing happens on Gears of War (idk about the sequel).
Actually, not always true, ESPECIALLY with Gears of War, because if the host quits, the game's over, but if a player sometimes quit, you'll get that "Connection Error" pop-up. Same with Halo 3. Can't count how many times screen went black...someone left...black, someone else left. Black, someone ELSE left.....It doesn't happen ALL the time, but it does happen.
It would be nice to have a cross game invites, and party chat, but its not that big of a deal too me. As long as you can chat in the game, and invite a bunch of people in the chatroom. In my opinion, there is little difference between the services. Judging by the name, you may call me a fanboy, but that's just not true (any more :P). Xbox 360 has a better online community than PlayStation 3, therefor I go with XBL, because its more social, better community, more safe and faster (better connection). I'm currently using an ethernet cable connected to my Xbox to go online and I even download stuff and buffering videos on YouTube and it works fine.

When it comes down to it, I really believe PSN is better. Pretty much everything is the same price on both online services, but with XBL, you still have to pay the monthly/yearly fee, so you're actually paying more for the same thing. PSN has a web browser which allows you to go to almost every website on the web. The online gaming seems identicle on both PSN and XBL for me, besides the "Cross game chatting" on XBL, which isn't that big of a deal, & you have good quality servers on PSN as well.

I do quite enjoy the fact that the yearly fee doesn't exist on PSN, saving me moniez, but thinking about people like me to whom the yearly fee goes by pretty much unnoticable, you've got to admit that paying for Xbox Live subscriptions is an excellent business strategy on Microsoft's behalf, and for that I congratulate them. @DatMasta96 The only difference between an fps and an rpg is weapon style. 1 magic spell vs 20bullets a second. Processing power has nothing to do with it. The only thing preventing fps's from having mass multiplayers is hackers. If people didn't hack they could make your xbox / psn do the damage calculating and then send THAT to other players. Besides if mag has 256 players than that proves any game can do it. Even if they made it easy and dropped it to 64 players. They just don't program it.

PSN does offer a lot, especially considering it's free. That said, Sony should be charging for the PSN. I mean look at how much money Microsoft has made off of Live. They obviously shouldn't charge as much as Live, but at least 20-30$. Having it free clearly isn't giving them much of an upper hand on the 360 anyways.

Well you have to consider that the PS3 was 100-200 dollars more expensive for most of 2009. The PS3 slim came out with the price drop only with a couple months left of the year.
I and so many other people will not PAY to PLAY online. However, their are rumors of a subscription based "extra" service coming to PSN. PSN will still allow free online multiplayer, though.

Live has facebook and twitter, which are much better on live than on the PSN. It has avatar games and Premium themes. You can also buy Full games on Live and trials of arcade games, make 8 person parties on and always stay connected with them, whether you are watching a movie, playing games, or just browsing the dashboard. Live also comes with a head set.. so that combined with cross game chat makes live much better for chatting as well.

exactly. you have to navigate through a brutal browser app, just to use twitter, where as on the 360 it's right there. oh wow! you can text chat with 16 people at the same time! thats so cool. The conversations must last for hours! lol. both systems can have more than enough people on a server. It's just that most developers choose not to over due it for gameplay reasons and speed issues. Just because MAG can have 256 players online, doesn't mean the 360 can't. peace.

360 couldn't never have 256 players trust me. Especially since it has host to host servers. Secondly man how can paying for webpages with your network subscription be better than having an internet browser where you can go on any webpage in the world for free? PSN's browser isn't hard to use especially if you have a keyboard.

Oh wow 16 people text chat. 360 can go 8 player party VOICE chat + be on msn from 360 at the same time and have as many people as you want in a convo. 360 has more stable servers and Live is great. Ps3 is not as advanced as Live.

BUT 256 players in a tactical shooter game where 80% of the PSN community doesn't have mics, is horrible you can't even communicate. 360 has dedicated servers for most of it's games, only the exclusives run on p2p servers, and i've never encountered anything kind of problem. Also DLC Years/Months before any other console is great!

It actually sounds like PSN's copyin' LIVE in a way. PSN's "Silver" still lets you play online, but their "Gold" gives you more features.

Doesn't Halo 3 use dedicated servers? HOWEVER, what sometimes happens when someone quits the game?? Screen goes black, they leave, game starts again. Same thing happens on Gears of War (idk about the sequel).

Actually, not always true, ESPECIALLY with Gears of War, because if the host quits, the game's over, but if a player sometimes quit, you'll get that "Connection Error" pop-up. Same with Halo 3. Can't count how many times screen went black...someone left...black, someone else left. Black, someone ELSE left.....It doesn't happen ALL the time, but it does happen.

It would be nice to have a cross game invites, and party chat, but its not that big of a deal too me. As long as you can chat in the game, and invite a bunch of people in the chatroom. I still feel like its still not worth the 50.00 a year. Its not alot of money, but I get pretty much the same thing with PSN. 50.00 a year for a few features, and peer to peer? At least Sony uses dedicated servers.

I wasnt bashing, I just dont see whats so great with XBL. cross games chatting and party chat?? I play 64 player games all the time with no problem. PSN is not like it was back in 2006 its 2009, and alot has changed. XBL doesn't even have any massive games, everything is either 8 or 16 players. PSN works for me because its more hardcore, and serious. But of course there is more people on XBL no doubt, but as far as massive games, XBL lacks.

I was Refering too Resistance 2 is 64 player, and Killzone 2. XBL does not have any games that support that many. Thats why i sayed i like Mass Action games thats all. By the way PS3 has already taken over. PS3 has sold 27 million world wide. X360 has sold 31 million. PS3 is only down 4 million units. Sony had a slow start but in the end it will get the last laugh.
