That Soviet plane getting shot up starting at 1:10 is an I-16. Fat body and stubby wings, it was obsolescent even in 1941. It did perform well in Spain a few years earlier.

And am I dreaming or is that a pair of Spitfires (Mk I, II or V) from 1:33 on (single radiator under the right wing)? Cannot think of any Soviet fighter that had such an arrangement

@JG52Karaya This question came up before on this thread. I think the editors of this newsreel didn't have enough footage of Red fighters getting shot up so they put in some footage of a Spitfire hoping no one would notice!

Interesting. They must have been short on footage of Russian fighters for this film, becuse several of the fighter shots you see are of Spitfire I's being shot at from behind. Probably re-using footage taken the year before from the Battle of Britian. Given that this flim might have been released shortly after Barbarossa began, I gues that could be expected. Propaganda and all that.

The Luftwaffe pretty much had air supremacy over the Soviet Air Force almost to the end. The only Soviet aircraft that matched up with the Luftwaffe was the Yak 7B and the Sturmovik. I think the Sturmovik was probably as good or better than the Stuka.

Do you think they didn't calculate susch option. In fact, they did, but the red army was to strong. Later,Chariotir and Dropshot plans were given red light due to hard soviet AA sistem. Expected casualties were calculated as at least 60% of attacking planes which would mean 100% in real war.

Because Hitler raped your factories and you hadn't moved them back yet. Also, the Soviet Union was far worse than the Third Reich. And it collapsed in the early 90's. 44000 soviets had some problems against the Spanish 250th Division in Krasny Bor. There were only around 5000 Spanish Soldiers. Ever heard about Severloh? He, Gockel and 30 more of his regiment defended Easy Red (Omaha) for over 6 hours keeping 10.000 allies at bay.

Allied troops were no match en even numbers against german soldiers. End of story.

It just gets largely ignored because the people that fought on the eastern front were decimated. and the soviets killed a majority of the POW's after the war. Stalin also had alot of the documents and records destroyed because he was paranoid that the US would steal their "tactics" which i find to be a bunch of BS. IT was released in the Venona papers by the Russian FSB in 1991 that confirmed that.
