  • Hey, I'm studying abroad in Tsukuba, Ibaraki right now. I've been in a relationship with my girlfriend for 16 months, and this is the farthest we've ever been away from each other. Right now we're talking a lot on skype, and that seems to make it a little easier. But, it still is hard. I'll be gone for 10 months, and we're trying to make plans to see each other on winter break or spring break. do you have any advice or anything?

  • @DiminishingMoonlight

    10 months is a long time, but do-able! (^_~)b

Skype is good, I'd also suggest sending lots of letters. They always end up being a nice surprise in the mail and it lets you know the other person is thinking of you and still cares about you.

  • For visiting, I'd suggest your gf come to Japan vs you going back home. When I went home, it just felt kind of depressing and it was weird to step out of "Japan mode" and then back again. My husband really loved coming to Japan and then he could see where I lived and what everything was like for me. We would tour all over, bond and just have an awesome time. (We were long distance for 2 years)

  • long distance sucks ass.

  • HI,

I like your video a lot! Your advice really is helpful. Thanks, i'm working on a video response so i can tell you my story.

  • really? I'm glad! :) My husband got deployed so I'm going into my 2nd year of the long distance thing so if you ever wanna vent or whatever, feel free!

  • I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BY ITS HARD WHEN YOUR IN YOUR ROOM, She left on Friday and its now Sunday night and I am already depressed. She is in Tokyo for 11 months. I just ordered her flowers and chocolate. But I have not had a call yet, just one e-mail :(

  • I know how hard it could be...be strong. I hope you still go well with that long distance relationship

  • ^_^ Thank you. Things are going really well actually. We talk to each other at least once a week & being in Japan has been a good distraction. If anything, it's bringing us closer & making us value our time together more.

  • i think a good thing to mention too, is that for the first time, you really get to feel what it's like to feel like a minority, it's a real shock hahah

  • ^^ haha it's true. But once you get over the paranoia, it's not so bad ^_~

  • ur really cute i wish i was ur boyfriend XD

  • Wow, that was really sound advice. Keep up the good spirits!

  • thanks...I'll try ^^

  • of thing, I ended up staying at a friend's house for 3 days, just going out & having fun & then when I got back, I went down to the beach with another friend & look out at Mt. Fuji. It was awesome & I felt a million times better. I hope that helps. :) Let me know if you have other questions

  • what do you recommed post breakup? my long distance relationship of 2 and 1/2 years ended beacause my ex boyfriend couldnt handle it anymore.

It hurts so bad because i poured my heart and soul into it.

  • i watch your new year video just now and your recording skills are amazing

  • ^_^ well thank you. One of my friends did the recording that I was in on the new years one. I thought he did an awesome job as well. He had gone to film school for awhile so he's good at. I'm hoping he'll help me make some more after Spring break (Feb. - April)

  • Good advice. Keeping yourself busy is really important!

  • ^_^ Thanks Kevin. Yeah, every time I end up sitting around in my room all day, I end up getting depressed.

  • my advice for you is DONT care that hes not there, because you still see him on the internet and if not you still will :)
