You don't have to be a biology graduate to speak knowledgeably about the veracity of evolution, simply read the hundreds of books and articles by both secular and non-secular biologists that consistently state the evidence. Dr. Waltke is a man of integrity who is willing to state the obvious in order to lead the church where it needs to go, even though it may challenge orthodox thinking.
i think the church should abandon the teachings and quit this religion shit and just beleive in god and admit to reality and just say god caused it to happen i dont think god caused it but it could have been a god but being religious about it as always causes way way more harm then good and all the good can be acomplished without the religion
Man, that is disappointing. Note the redefinition (including in the text on the video) of "engage" and "dialogue." Creationists have been doing both for decades, if that is really what is sought. It isn't. What is sought is compromise and caving-in, which is what Waltke advocates here. And goodness, he's old enough to know that this is EXACTLY the same thing that the Fosdicks of ~100 years ago used to advocate liberalism, and the Down-Graders Spurgeon fought. They destroy Christianity to save it
Reformed Theological Seminary wake up!!!! The wolf is at your door. Your curriculum and teachings are becoming as compromised and as liberal as westminster. This isn't some debate like do we sprinkle or dunk in Baptism. This stands on the borders of inerrancy. The silly stuff isn't worth dying for....inerrancy of God's word is....WAKE UP! DRINK COFFEE...LOL....I going to buy you a gift card to starbucks right now....be right back!
Dr. Wlatke is doing a great service to promote dialogue on evolution within the Church. This is one of the most divisive issues because so many Christians do not understand evolutionary theory and the difference between evolution and evolutionism. Even Charles Hodge, who engaged in dialogue after the Origin of the Species was published, and stated, What is Darwinism? It is Atheism, conceded that evolution is compatible with theism, if it admits design in nature.
I studied under Dr. Waltke at Dallas Seminary and went to Israel with him. I have great respect for his knowledge of Semitics and archaeology. But frankly I have more scientific training that he (a degree in engineering). I do not look to him for assessment of evolution's evidence. It was a sad video and the sadness on Dr. Waltke's face, as one who has known him, spoke loudly to me.
It saddens me that a great scholar like Dr. Waltke has been buffaloed into thinking evolution is scientific fact. I don't question his academic credentials, but he's appallingly ignorant of science. The reason why the proponents of evolution are so energized in their opposition to creation science is because their positions are scientifically untenable. They cannot stand civil debate, so they intimidate and threaten all who challenge their beliefs, as exposed in Ben Steins movie, Expelled.
Interesting video. Not sure if evolution is necessarily the belief that the Church either stands or falls with, but there definitely needs to be discussion within churches about it.
I've seen it discussed in church and they literally said that we have more faith, as if blind faith is a virtue.
I am SO glad he has spoken up! Dr. Waltke is a former president of the Evangelical Theological Society and a professor at Reformed Theological Seminary. And his doctorate is from HARVARD, not from some trailer-park diploma mill.
I hope many more evangelicals start getting the message before they're driven even further from the rest of society.
I agree. The topic of Evolution needs to be discussed seriously amongst the different Churches, not just finding every argument possible to reject it (like some do even if it means making crazy ideas *cough Answers In Genesis cough*)
It should title why the pagans should accept the Bible

It is sad to see that such a well respected christian scholar is so absolutely out of touch on this issue.

A degree in engineering? And that qualifies you to make judgments regarding evolutionary biology?
