  • i dont care what none of yall say floyd mayweather jr defense is way better than parnell, anybody can make a bum miss

  • @EStroz585 "anybody can make a bum miss"

Yeah that's what I think about Mayweather, so why doesn't he just fight Pacquio and actually prove himself. Julio Ceasar Chavez would have run over Mayweather..

  • One time I smoked so much weed I thought I was about to have a panic attack, then I watched this Sweet Pea highlight and was too in awe of the skills to care about anything else. I became convinced that Whitaker is the most athletic person of all-time.

  • Mayweather couldn't touch Whittaker.

  • quieren ver una buena defensiva miren a nicolino locche el argentino ese si fue el mejor lejos por favor miren y luego opinen

want to see the best defensive look Nicolino Locche the argentine that if it was the best away please look and then say

    sorry my bad English

  • Beeezt

  • This guy is awesome!!!! In a few hours im gonna meet Badr Hari and i'll tell him to watch this guy to improve his reflexes when he comes to te states for a boxing career.

I wonder if this works for a tall fighter, im a recreative boxer but im 6.5 tall any suggestions for a fighting style for tall people??

  • Awesome Pernell Whitaker was

  • absolutely the best defensive fighter of all time

  • nice defense!

  • Out classed every fighter

  • Young Mike tyson

  • Pernell widicker is the best entertaining defensive fighter, not the best defensive fighter.

  • @Alex174661 whitaker not widicker

  • @Alex174661 Agree. Locche is the best defensive fighter ever.

  • @thefence13. No. Pernell is the greatest defensive boxer ever

  • @TheDavolfc roy jones jr has the best defence of all time

  • @staywithaces1984 Yeah man, before he cut so much muscle weight :\

  • @staywithaces1984 Nah, watch 'ali's amazing reflexes'

  • floyds defense is better..but sweet pea was a great defender

  • @thefence13 Pernell had better defense (arguably the best defense of all time) but Floyd utilizes his offense better and he also is a better counter puncher.

  • this dude is INSANE

  • Floyd defender is verter ruán sweater pees

  • This nig*a win fights with just defense. He makes you look so stupid to the judges. lol....

  • pernell whitaker made defensive boxing exciting and entertaining, this is who i look up to as a boxer and try to fight like. look at my videos

  • sweet pea was great he's my 6th favorite fighter ever

  • holy shit did he really just sit down in the corner how comical

  • All I see is a Black men running in the ring...Typical they all run

  • @adrean85si lol thats for sure...

  • if he only had a hard punch.

  • @4DaH8ters a counter punch is just as good as having a hard punch

  • De La Hoya didn't beat the champion-Pernell Whitaker. The judges robbed Sweat Pea in that fight.

  • hes like a boxing harlem globetrotter

  • Sometimes the best defense is the best offense. The sweet science. Sweet P Whitaker!

  • Pernell was the man. He made defense cool.

  • it's a damn shame when you miss 9 punches in a row.

  • lmao mayweather is way much better than this guy

  • @kenndiata appreciate because i took the time to respond to a highly stupid comment. Floyd doesnt have SHIT on Sweet Pea, i dont know if you noticed the different types of defense they use. Sweet Pea had head movement and great foot work. Floyd mostly uses his elbows

  • @junior1497 thats why he look uglier

  • @kenndiata well i guess its a matter of taste then

  • @kenndiata Castillo and Ramirez, two very similar level of fighters. Floyd struggles mightily to Castillo, arguably losing the first bout. Whitaker shuts Ramirez out. Nuff said. Thank you. Good bye.

  • @kenndiata Oh, here's another one. Whitaker, WAY PAST HIS PRIME, gets robbed against a PRIME De La Hoya. Whereas PRIME Mayweather, facing a WAY PAST PRIME De La Hoya, wins a close decision in a similar fashion. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Whitaker did what Floyd did a lot better.

  • @Mowglieboy69 so its all about style make fight wher marquez fucked pacquiao up

  • @kenndiata Styles make fights, yes. Whitaker and Floyd were both defensive boxers. Whitaker was a better defensive boxer.

  • @Mowglieboy69 floyd a better defensive obviously and a counter puncher

  • @kenndiata Whitaker schools Chavez, Floyd gets a gift against Chavez's SPARRING PARTNER Jose Luis Castillo. Do the math.

  • @Mowglieboy69 so what man mayweather fucked him up in the 2nd fight

  • A lot of good defensive fighters struggle with that old school style defense against southpaws. This is a good guy to study because he has more fights against opposite stances than most.

  • The Anderson Silva of boxing.

  • @Chubzdoomer Nah man, you got it wrong, Silva is the Sweet Pea of MMA.

  • Good thing he went to MMA, he sucked at boxing.

  • @CoronaJoe HAHA!! Yeah true.

  • LOOK FLOYD - NO ELBOWS!!

  • @ROGERTROUTMAN1 thats why hes not undefeated

  • @InternationalBoy - There are dozens of undefeated boxers.

  • @ROGERTROUTMAN1 It's legal to use a forearm guard in boxing, yes that includes your elbow too. The boxer just cant throw an elbow like a punch at his opponent. Theirs a lot of people that doesn't know boxing in this world.

  • @Lift1One - WRONG. You cannot shoot your elbow/forearm up from your waist like FMJ does. Joe Cortez is an idiot ref anyway.....It's funny how 99% of FMJ fans didn't watch boxing before Mike Tyson became popular.

  • @Lift1One like Mayweather was doing with Ortiz?, he was using his elbow pointing to Ortiz to defend...i have that doubt...

  • yeah 1:58 - 2:02 behind the back...wow...never seen that

  • I would still like 2 see a de la hoya vs trinidad rematch

  • awesome defensive and fast boxer

  • Mayweather has a great record but let's be honest... put those guys floyd had defeated to cotto, n cotto would be 42-0, put them to pac n he would be 42-0 too, put floyd fighting the guys pac had fought, he wouldn't be undefeated.

  • @theotherhalfoftheang Pacs biggest wins are against the guys Floyd already beat! Pac NEVER faced a WW ranked as high as Ortiz and thats A FACT! And most people say Pac lost BOTH JMM fights. Pacs competition has been less then stellar lately and he has been taking fights against guys ether coming of a lose (Clottey)or guys who have looked bad in there last fight (cotto, Margarito, Mosley). And Manny lost to Torrecampo and Singsurat so to say he would beat everyone floyd has fought is stupid

  • Whitaker beat Oscar's overrated ass.

Pea would always have a hard time with Tito though.

  • Oscar De La Hoya best him. Maybe if Sweet Pea hadn't messed about so much he could have been a great champion

  • @sweetypie000

Actually Oscar De la Hoya's performance was pathetic.

He's supposedly a puncher and he couldn't take out a version of Pernell Whitaker that had been in the fight game for 13 years. Had to settle for a rather boring decision.

Sweet Pea was a legend long before he ever met Oscar.

  • pernell =shit boxer and coke head!

  • The best pure boxer of the modern era. He makes world-champions fighters repeatedly swing at the air and look stupid. People criticize Whitaker for not having punching power, and for "running". But this sport is called BOXING. Not brawling.

  • He is a natural you can't just learn to be like him just like learning to be a power puncher.

  • Pernell definitely had the most entertaining & spectacular defence of all time but Floyd Mayweather Jr has the most effective defensive style of all time hands down.

  • @BigboyDownStairs Whitaker proved it against the best offensive fighters of his era though. Floyd hasn't fought Pacquiao, Cotto etc..... Shane and Oscar had seen way better days. Corrales is probably the best offensive fighter he's faced, and he was left hook happy at best.

  • @BeestonBrawler I disagree, yes he hasnt fought Pacquiao & Cotto but that is not to say the fighters he has embarrassed werent worthy fighters. Genaro Hernandez who was undefeated in 2 weight devisions, an undefeated Zab Judah, an undefeated Corrales, Castillo who was coming of 10 KOs, an undefeated Chavez, an undefeated Hatton, the list goes on.. Look you can criticise him all you want but the fact that this man has gone 42fights without even being knocked down is simply incredible

  • @BeestonBrawler He did just beat the #2 ranked WW in the world. Cheap shot or not he was schooling him

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Ortiz is shite, a product of HBO hype. That isn't any Floyd hate, he (Ortiz) quit like a bitch against Maidana, who isn't that good.... and was happy that Floyd KO'd him so he could get out of the ring and not be embarrassed anymore. He was smiling after the fight for God's sake, mental midget.

  • @BeestonBrawler Ortiz may be a little mentally weak but he is the #3 WW in the world right now. Like it or not Ortiz is better then anyone Manny has fought at WW besides Cotto

  • Sweet Pea- One of my Favorite Defensive Specialist of All-Time

  • roy jones jr: good counter by de la hoya

*** de la hoya goes on to literally miss the next 10 punches ***

  • 29 persons can´t hit Whitaker

  • Damnn fkn awesome defense

  • number one footwork and distance, number two upper body movement

  • Same ol' blind Jim Lampley shitting his pants with excitement even though De La Hoya was missing every punch he threw.

  • @Elreypachuco bang bang bang bang lol only the best from jim lampley smh

  • Sweet Pea is with out a doubt one of the greatest defensive and pure boxers of all time.

  • LOL!!!!! @3:58 looks like de la hoya is tryna swat a fly

  • Floyd wasn't touching SWEET PEA on defense

  • @colby7890 Agreed, he makes floyd look like an amateur

  • hmmmmmm... the new version of Nicolino Locche ?

  • 1:59 behind the back punch to the face!

  • Da P!!!!

  • Pernell Whitaker has the best boxing defense ever

  • Oh my goodness ...........

  • Pernell Whitaker is POUND FOR POUND THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.

To argue this FACT is to expose your complete and utter ignorance.

  • He's like Vageta dodging punches LOL

  • 2:01 funny

  • LOl did anyone actually appreciate his moves then like we do now?

  • Class

  • jimmy wilde was the same, had a sixth sense knowin what te opponet is oi to do hen explode, awesome

  • Ow my god now that is defense!

  • if i were to fight this guy, i'll throw in the towel myself.

  • 4:57 - speechless

  • WHY THE HELL IS THIS GUY NOT IN THE HALL OF FAME YET?!!

  • @dwiggles1 he is inducted in the hall of fame in the year 2006 "the master of defence"

  • @dwiggles1 Pernell Whitaker IS in the IBHOF. He was inducted in 2007.

  • 3:58 to 4:05

Fucking incredible dodging, damn, De La Hoya's fists were going so fast, but Whitaker was just that much faster :D

  • @Riveascor Agreed :DDD

  • ... WEAVE GAME SO CRUCIAL

  • If you want a good laugh, look up "worst boxer ever" and you'll see the Shadow man who invented elusiveness defense. I'm not trying to advertise but I promise you'll laugh at that man.

  • was that trinidad sweet pea was fighting at the end oe the the clip

  • @DaChamp40

did the "trinidad" on the back of his trunks, or the puerto rican island with the puerto rican flag on it not give it away????

  • @elnegrobembon no need to get snippy had i seen any of those things i wouldnt have asked the question, internet tuff guys...u gotta laugh at em

  • @DaChamp40

lol!!! if you think i was trying to be a "tough guy" then you must get intimidated pretty easy..

  • @elnegrobembon y get intimidated by what ive read...i think if we were in a sports bar and i asked that question u wouldve just said yea instead of all the extra bs

  • @vibit7

    than wasnt meant so serious..

  • thin mike tyson^^

  • Great defense but his fights are usually boring with all the running and backing up Whitaker does.

  • crazy evasive skills whitaker, awesome at the end makes look easy.

  • i love mills lane as a ref...he lets you fight

  • WTF....this is inhuman

  • go teach zab judah something lol

  • His quads are probably insane.

  • defensive boxing is beautiful but i dont like seeing a fighter run away like he would sometimes...dude ended up punch drunk anyway

  • @blahness666 he was just unbelievably cocky

  • Sweet Pea has some of the best EYES in Boxing History! He saw everything & could feel what his opponent might do.

  • i feel like im watching dragon ball z, cant understand why hes not goin down and all you see is sweet pea dodging

  • looks like a beginner on a double end bag :p

  • He was good at defense, but he just ran away from de la hoya...

  • @znarf541 he beat de la hoya. that's called footwork

  • I wish I could have seen this guy fight Roy Jones Jr. Two incredibly nimble fighters with their own unique styles.

  • @grayman19 if they were the same size/weight class, yes, that would be fairly entertaining in their primes

  • @grayman19 My idea exactly!

  • @grayman19 way different weight classes. about 30 lbs difference.

  • one smooth motherfucker

  • 2:00 behind the back punch

  • geez those dodges where amazing, especially the ones against de la hoya

  • LMAO u could'nt hit whitaker but he could HIT you

  • God Damn Boxing is a tough sport. ShIT I feel like a victim

  • love it. pea kicks ass smoothly

  • Watching all of Whitaker's movement in slow motion really makes you appreciate what true defensive genius he is. Football had Barry Sanders and Boxing had Sweat Pea.

  • Beautiful defence to watch. Just awesome. But i put Mayweather above him. Is defence is as effective like sweetP´s but Floyd is more effective over all. Most accurate Boxer ever.

  • @bimmer666,

Mayweather is easily one of the greatest ring craftsmen in history. Shame he has so many haters. I hope future generations will appreciate him more. I am told Muhammad Ali was hated in a similar way when he was in his prime

  • @sonofthedestroyer but Ali fought a bunch of boxers who are in boxing hall of fames everywhere. Floyd did beat a hand full of future hall of famers but I still he needs manny or if he is feeling sucidal and wants to move up in weight benard hopkins or even more dangourous Sergio martinez. I think floyd did enough for legacy though.

  • if you dont like Sweet Pea then you must be mexican and he beat your boys down.

  • "Nice flurry by De La Hoya!" ... Smh.

  • this guy is better than floyd beotch

  • The difference about sweat pea is that he isnt cocky even when he is doing his flashy moves. Unlike fighters like Roy Jones and Mayweather who taunt their opponents, Sweat Pea just stood their and worked his magic without an expression on his face. True Legend.

  • Nice!

  • sweet

  • nice video. i think they took PEDS and Steroids.

  • Why are they showing these highlighs? They don't get any slower than this guy. Anyone can dodge this dude.

  • UNREAL

  • Sweet Pea is like a fish; you can't catch him because he keeps flapping and slipping in between your fingers, and then he jumps and slaps you in the face tail-first.

  • 2:39 The reach around noogie punch.

  • Jim Lampley should be ashamed of himself for screaming and getting excited for punches that didn't even land. That's back when HBO was doing their best to make people think DeLaHoya was the second coming of Ray Robinson.

  • Whitaker- has Neo's abilities...without needing special effects.

  • @carmodifire Probably where they got the idea from too... but doubt they let him know that. Lol.

  • way dont put the fight with JC Chavez?

  • this is not boxing defense its boxing movements knowing how to use your jab is your best defense in boxing.

  • Listen to HBO commentary give Oscar credit for punches he clearly missed. They was so desperate to keep that Oscar Trinidad fight on schedule. Glad Oscar lost the fight. Redemption for both Whitaker and Sturm.

  • @Mhendeb Yeah. Oscar got a few extra points in the Whitaker fight. But I'm not mad at him about it. P-Widdy is one of my favorite boxers of all time. I definitely like his style a ton more than De La's (even in that fight, I was more impressed by him than I was by Oscar). But if he wanted to win that fight, he should have stayed off the white pony. That stuff ruins your mind-body coordination and mental focus. Drug-free, he wouldn't have lost to De La or Trinidad, even past prime.

  • A question for his fans: What's the current fighter more like to Whitaker?

  • @SalaTaMaRaCiTy I don't know about a current boxer. I guess Mayweather and Clottey are probably the best defenders out there these days. But they both have totally different types of defense than Whitaker (and each other). I'll tell you what though, if you just want to see some spectacular defense, and you don't care what decade it comes from, watch Wilfredo benitez. He's the only guy I know whose defense is as effective and as pretty to watch as Whitaker's.

  • @ernhutch187 Did you know mayweather gets hit less then Sweet Pea? Whitakers defense is much more fun to watch though

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Yeah. But Mayweather's defense is too good. Instead of just ducking punches, he ducks whole fights. Whitaker'd have fought Pac.

  • @ernhutch187 Its funny that manny is probably the only fighter in the world who can get praised for not taking a drug test. People like to call mayweather a cowered but manny fought weight drained Oscar AFTER Floyed already beat him, manny fought Ricky H After floyd (roach said floyd ruined him) beat him, manny fought Cotto AFTER Margarito ruined him, manny fought Margarito AFTER Mosley almost killed him, and manny fought Mosley after two poor performances in a row. Manny hand picks fights

    .

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Yeah. A lot of Pac's fans praise him no matter what he does. Not me though. I see him for what he is. He's an amazing boxer who probably takes PED's. But so what? Mayweather should have fought him anyway. 58 other guys fought him, they didn't complain? Now, even if it happens they'll both be shells of their former selves. Mayweather stopped caring. He's taking more lay-off time than Ali. And Pac looked like his skills and determination are the decline vs Mosely.

  • @ben1ben2ben1 IMO it's not fair to discredit Pac for beating those guys. He destroyed Hatton fair and square, Floyd fight or not. DLH was a seasoned vet. He knew how to lose weight and he knew how to cut weight too. Also, he'd fought at 150 in May 2008. He fought Pac at 145 in Dec 2008. He didn't even have to lose 1 lb a month. Cotto's not ruined. He's winning lately. Margarito is trash, but so what? Pac trashed him. The Mosely fight was junk. But who was a better choice for him to fight?

  • @ernhutch187 I agree much of what you said basically. Im just saying people like to discreet Floyd and say he "hand picks" his opponents when manny (well freddy) does the same thing. Floyd has fought just as tough opponents lately but people never give him credit. Probably because he is such an ass.

  • Can't have a video like this without James Toney

  • Love watching Sweet Pea!

  • awesome reflexes

  • Buster Mathis Jr also had unbelievable defensive skills for a heavyweight. Just no punching technique or strength and out of shape constantly. What a waste of great talent Mathis was.

  • His offense is shitty, everybody just goes nuts on trying to hit him and not countering him as much.

  • @fuckyourcouchful are you really that naive?

you're going to judge his offense on a 5 minute video that is highlighting his DEFENSE?!

sorry but, i had to laugh

  • WOw the first fight, it looks like its set up, thats how good he is he just sees the punches coming. thats crazy
