The song sounds great.... But once you listen to the lyrics... Uggghhh However for this song I choose to just enjoy the "Sound" of the song. Pretend the words are in another language and you have some beautiful music here.
@BinaryReaper Awww. I hope I can change your mind. I read an interview with Lyle years ago where he was asked about the song and its inspiration. He said he wrote it from the perspective of that little kid who wants to try to have it all and thinks he can make it work. When he grows up he wants to be a cowboy and a sailor and a movie star and he tries to figure out how to make it work. I love it. Makes me think of how I thought of things as a kid.
@BinaryReaper The lyrics are what make this song great. This is a masterfully written song. One of my all time favorites. Maybe if you read oldmac1's comments you'll see it a little differently
Love this song. And here's two great songwriters, two of the best ever. Saw them with John Hyatt on Austin City Limits once. I only own my computer, my books & my car (& a few clothes). But I'd give my car in a heartbeat to have seen them all in concert! Thanks for sharing a great clip Brother. Peace!
Lyle had that Mormon chick thing working....the higher the hair, the closer to God! He's on my list of the 10 artists I have played the most in my home.
Imagine having John Prine say he admires YOUR songwriting. Be hard to wrap around that.

Great combos, Banjo: John Prine and Lyle, cowboys on the ocean; guitar and cello. Sweet, in every sense of the word.
