Hospitals are the fucking worst, me and a few buddies went to one about a year or two ago, the floor was littered with old IV bags, there were dirty hospital beds, wheelchairs, dirty, damp old rags and dark long hallways. Good on you for having the strength to explore, mate.
This is a unique and beautiful building. Why don't they restore it instead of spending £15m to restore that ugly concrete building 'St. Peter's seminary' in Cardonald ?
I recall doing a survey job around Hartwood hospital, I think it was in 2002 or 2003. Fascinating place, I just wish i had the time to have a look around inside.
Hey sorry I took so long to get bavk to you. {People were harassing me on here and I had to make all my videos private. I haven't logged in in ages. Anyway, I just saw your video here. That is awesome!! Thanks so much for sending me alink to it. Sorry about typos. I cut my finger, lol Anyway, that was really creepy but fascinating at the same time. What is a boiler house?
your vid says, waht you feel. great job. But the people in the data center(s) with their balance sheets often reach different conclusions to incomprehensible.
I worked there 22 years ago. This is the first time I've seen the place since I left - and it was a shock!
The reason that nothing has been done to the site is because the buildings are listed as being historically important. It is illegal to do anything to them without planning consent. There have been a few developers interested in taking over the site. However, I believe the plans fell through because the buildings would have to be restored - at a huge cost.
@172Break Yeah the building is amazing though, the two clock towers are stunning. It's a real shame that the floors of the main building and left tower have fallen in otherwise I think it would have been saved.
I've done work with abandoned sites but never created a narrative visual essay of a particular site--this is beautifully done. Additionally it sounds as if you've used your own music composition to accompany this? Altogether impressive! Thanks for publishing! ^_^/
I always love to see video or pictures of abandoned building allot are very beautiful and sad too see them with no life of people. I have been to some and always wounder what it was like when it was alive.
I once was in an Abanded Hostital that was abandend in 1975. it was soo scary to see all of the Stuff such as beds, Sheets and Matarial left un toutched after people had suddenly left? I have enver been to the U.K or Scotland before but it is deffinatly on my '' To Do List ''.
Sorry, missed a bit - these buildings are not easy to convert to alternative use, and many of them are in remote areas. The only one I'm aware of being re-developed is the Holloway Sanitorium, but greed talks - part of it has become very des-res apartments in a staggeringly expensive area of Britain. And that, bearing in mind what it was, makes me REALLY uncomfortable. Believe me, this has more dignity somehow.
You're right, it's kind if beyond redemption. I'm kind of ambivalent, in some ways I think these buildings should be preserved (although I know something about the engineering and construction of them; my Pa is a top banana engineer who was heavily involved in them, not cos I'm clever!) yet in other ways they are the epitome of wasted lives, sometimes for the weakest reasons. Perhaps it's right they go they way of so many of the lives within. Difficult one.
Very clever - I really like the juxtaposition of stills/video effect; the little touches of animation to an otherwise completely still scene really underline how nature is reclaiming what's left of these buildings, yet somehow even in this sad state they retain a sense of serene grandiosity; a total domination of the landscape. Beautifully done, and the music is a great choice. Thank you.
This video is so very haunting yet beautiful, a sense of sadness at the abandoned buildings with such character and amazing architect . Thank-you from a fellow Scot for posting such interesting videos, have a good day , hugs Kira x
@youtoubakias It could be haunted it has been there since Victorian times and had several patients over the years, it was abandoned before the fire. The NHS decided it was no longer needed and closed it unfortunately.
@alicedoesdaydream Hey I do have a flickr, I haven't managed to get the pictures up yet but I promise i'll get the ones from the video up soon! Check out our facebook "abandoned scotland" if you want to check out some more pictures from the explore that day in the mean time :)
I wish I had good areas to explore around here. When something falls out of use it isn't long before contractors seal up the area (meaning that I would have to commit a B&E to do anything) :[
That's sad...those lamps purchase and installed in memorium to those staffers lost in the war...and now they too lay forgotten. Not just the lamps, but the people as well...
Exploring abandoned places is 1 of my passions so, I'm loving these! Thanx so much 4 the share, gr8 footage. Can't wait 2 see where u guys explore next & if I'm ever in Scotland, I'm looking u guys up ;-)!
@Oochia It's not illegal to trespass in Scotland, this might be different for other countries. Although obviously any form of breaking and entering would be a criminal offence.
@whitezombie93 The floors had fallen in on the left hand clock tower and the middle building, the right hand tower you could get access to but due to the weather we left it this time.
Really interesting, with all that must have gone on in there, and to just be abandoned and left to deteriorate like that. Thanks for the description and the perfect music too...excellent videography.
@FalconGhia It was already abandoned before it caught fire, the NHS decided it was no longer required due to alot of patients being cared for in the community. The building was used as a studio for Lanarkshire TV for a while as well.

They certainly don't build them like that any more! Lovely looking building, I'm sure the pigeons appreciate those high abandoned towers to roost in.

@McDaidUSA It's a mix of economic decline but also generally the buildings purpose becoming redundant.
