@racergonemad99 I have hated both parties for years, and Ron Paul has finally made this election not a "lesser of two evils" scenario. I studied it, and it's called "Libertarianism" - A social policy of freedom (liberals minus ignoring the 2nd amendment), Conservative Economics (not the Neocon butchering), and a foreign policy of non-interventionism (which is not isolationism, btw). It's really what the Constitution preaches.
He ran for the Libertarian party, but the 2 party system killed it.

I live in Canada, so I think a lot of americans are much too gung-ho about their right to own a weapon imho. Would you care to cite your source; the one that came up first for me said that gun ownership didn't have a significant rate on the amount of murders per capita. (Saying that while the lawful citizens who wouldn't shoot anyone to begin with, did get rid of their weapons, the criminals still managed to procure various firearms, regardless of legislation). Imagine you're a kid growing up in Iraq. You don't know anything about politics or war, but one day a bomb launched by the "land of the free and the home of the brave" kills your parents and cripples you.
Would you think to yourself "Oh, well the USA is a beacon of freedom and I'm sure they had a good reason for doing what they did" or would you become an enemy of the USA for destroying your family and your life?
This is why I believe we need to listen to our "enemies."
This is a different type of enemy. I agree that we probably had this coming from that region of the world. And Im not saying our foreign policy there has been correct, even now. However you simply cannot "listen" to terrorists.Terrorism is a type of warfare that is based and thrives on fear. When you back down to it, the next time we do something they dont like they will use it again, or they will use it elsewhere. When fighting terrorism our soldiers are not at risk, our citizens are.
Disagreeing with attacking Afghanistan and Iraq is fine, and we probably shouldnt have attacked either. But you cannot "listen" to terrorism and take it like a slap on the wrist. It has to be responded to, at least to some degree. It should have been a swift, concise, and bloody, and then we should have sat back and waited for them to "TREAD ON ME"
Since we had been bombing that area for 10 years prior to 911 we created blowback & we were struck back. However, if we had not spent decades f*cking their shit up, I guarantee there would not have been a 911. So 911 was 'thier way of talking back to us'. Don't forget that when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, we 'talked back' by blowin' up Japan. The point is we have been blowin shit up in the middle east for decades so it was a matter of time before we felt some Blow Back for our involvment.

@racergonemad99 I have hated both parties for years, and Ron Paul has finally made this election not a "lesser of two evils" scenario. I studied it, and it's called "Libertarianism" - A social policy of freedom (liberals minus ignoring the 2nd amendment), Conservative Economics (not the Neocon butchering), and a foreign policy of non-interventionism (which is not isolationism, btw). It's really what the Constitution preaches.
He ran for the Libertarian party, but the 2 party system killed it.

I live in Canada, so I think a lot of americans are much too gung-ho about their right to own a weapon imho. Statistically speaking, owning a gun usually leads to either domestic violence or accidental shootings, rather than the off-chance you'll have to protect yourself (While, in the process, possible killing someone else).

Would you care to cite your source; the one that came up first for me said that gun ownership didn't have a significant rate on the amount of murders per capita. (Saying that while the lawful citizens who wouldn't shoot anyone to begin with, did get rid of their weapons, the criminals still managed to procure various firearms, regardless of legislation). This was from 07/08.

I assumed that over the long run, the ability for everyone to own a gun generally leads to more guns in that country, and a higher amount of illegally owned firearms compared to a country barring people from owning one.

That said, and with all the crazy skeletons coming out about various political candidates. I still stand behind him on his issues. I entirely understand that we received "blow back", I mentioned that in one of my other posts. I'm not defending our foreign policy at all. However, how you deal with that "blow back" is important and sends a message to those we dealt it. If you take it like a spanking that kind of behavior is rewarded and will continue to be used. Minding our business for the future is a great idea, and I wont argue that. Terrorism must be dealt with. It is not conventional war, it is crime and needs punishment

However you simply cannot "listen" to terrorists.Terrorism is a type of warfare that is based and thrives on fear. You bring up a very good point; I shouldn't dismiss Maher because of this one statement or for the fact that he is a liberal, nor do I want to align myself with neocons like Limbaugh. But it's hard to disregard his statement about "a Democrat isn't saying things like that," like Maher could not fundamentally back someone who isn't a Democrat based on the sole fact that they are not a Democrat .

No. He's saying that NO Democrat in the race had the GUTS to tell the truth about 911 (and yet they were supposed to be the "opposition party" to Bush), and that there's is Republican, Ron Paul, his new HERO, who DOES.
*****Jesus Christ, in the world of politics, when a "liberal" pays that kind of compliment to a "conservative, it is BIG. Maher's comments here PUT RON PAUL'S CAMPAIGN ON THE MAP.
We are FOREVER indebted to him no matter what our differences on policy.

im from ct. thank you bill.........c. dodd is a wonderful example of just why we need term limits.
our gov. has become stagnated and corrupt on bothe sides of the isle.
we have been provided w/the illusion of choice. dodd and the crony crew have got to go.
