  • I Cannot Tell a Lie

  • What are the pickups that he uses now?

  • area 67's i think, single coils

  • technique, melody, and speed all in 1 package

  • he's my hero.

  • can anyone tell me what is the title of this instrumental???

  • nope

  • I cannot tell a lie.

  • @onek87 Ibanez Fireman...he had two made custom and then they released the korina wood version (the one in the video) as a paul gilbert signature guitar

  • i know that axe was ibanez fireman,

i mean the title of the instrumental..

do you guys know what the title of these song?

  • @onek87 I cannot tell alie

  • Show d bola!!!!!! Esse é o cara!!

  • Love this song.

  • amzing guitarplayer, I play for 40 years, but this is hard work, excercise and talent, nothing to hide, all in the open, knowing little people can follow this....yes melodic, acrobatic sometimes too much, but yes there is a feeling..beautiful sound, excellent teacher, modest guy...

  • what i'd love to know is, does he have a lesson about making those faces? :P

  • Are you that bored by the music that you have to be so superficial to look at things other than the music, like cosmetics?

  • paul gilbert seems to have a bit of a sense of humour, dude - i suggest you investigate the concept.

  • lol he does have a lesson abt bending strings and he says its impossible not to make those rock n roll faces when doing those bends lol

  • Must give huge props to Paul for playing through an "old school" Marshall where he can't hide behind walls of gain or reverb. His playing is CLEAN.

  • sounds like paul has been lisening to a lot of brien may/queen. Rock on paul your the best!!!!!!

  • I WANT THE REVERSE ICEMAN!!!

  • me too!!!!

  • THE FIREMAN???

  • I love it when he plays on dark wood, much warmer tone.

  • I'll start off by saying that Paul is one of my most idolized guitar players. Now that that's out of the way... the problem I have with this piece is that it's actually kinda bland. It's all 12th position noodling... which is cool, I do plenty of that myself, but it's paul gilbert! He should be setting his guitar on fire from pure friction while getting a blow-job from Satan... that's how awesome he is.

His new direction is nice though, the old Racer X stuff was too robotic for my tastes.

  • your right, i agree.

and i love his stuff, but i think this was a bit weak for him. not saying im better or anything... i just think he wasnt doing his best.

  • really? while i do agree that this wasn't a stretch for him musically in any way shape or form, it's still a great song, nice and mellow with a lot of passion.

  • paul gilbert= extreme legend

    incredible

  • there are very few words that can describe my love for paul gilbert but some of them are

    bear

    fish

    taco

    europe

    kaffufle

  • wow his playing is super controlled and bends are dead on!!

  • Thanks zrhero1. Great uploads of a great player & great guy. Hope to see him live next month in Southampton :D

  • very good ...congratulation !!!!

  • yeah, he was definitely influenced by Satch and Petrucci on the g3 tour last year. I just wonder how much he influenced those two. he's still good old Paul, one of the fastest ever and tons of fun, but his tone is brighter and he sounds like he is concentrating more on melody now.

  • He was definitely influenced by Satch in that he has more melodic, heartfelt songs, while still having that amazing shred in it that he has always had

  • attack to the heart of guitar payer...

  • "i can not tell a lie" amazing song!!!

  • whats the name of this song?

  • I Cannot Tell A Lie from Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar

  • how much do you think is the Ibanez Fireman gonna be?

  • There is ONE on Ebay for 6999.99. But shipping is free!

  • ha free shipping

  • If he messed up it sure did sound better than when I mess up.

  • Nothing wrong with a sour note here and there, many people would be embarassed but he took it and rocked out. Paul Gilbert kicks ass

  • dude that was helllla intentional lol.

  • man.. gilbert's playing is so clean!! it's as though a robot's playing it, but he's no robot cuz robots cant solo with emotion.

  • hey paul get back with the mr big guys and do a tour ...c'mon man-it's summer-get out there and do some gigs with the band again....do it for the fans,do it for the money, just do it.....

  • silence followed by a deafening roar is one of the best albums that I own. It's incredible all of the way through. I would recommend it to any paul gilbert enthusiast.

  • Damn....been watching gilberts vids for a few days now never saw him tap like this before...really impressive...definately becoming one of my favs pretty quickly

  • To be fair acoustics are shite, I saw Gilbert at symphony hall, Birmingham on monday, he played this and it was stunning.

  • hey does anyone know the name of this song

  • "I cannot tell a lie" from "silence followed bvy a deafening roar"

  • No it isn't. Soulfire has it right.

  • lol woops to my below comment, i was thinking i was still watching part 1, my bad

  • che cazzo dici...

  • shut up idiot you dont know about guitar

  • okay little baby your cool telling people to shut up online! hahaha do us all a favor and stay in peru cause you must be quite a moron in real life to meet.

  • Really? I am so digging that reverse iceman. The natural finish and tortoise shell pickguard kind of give it a vintage appeal even though it's totally a new design.

  • You're a dumb ass, it sounds alot better on the album, he's playing over a bad backing track that you obviously can't even hear, so stfu.

  • oh yea i heard one or two out of tune notes, but i think its all that sliding he was doing, hes not perfect but you have to admit he plays much cleaner than a lot of guitarists.

  • i need this backing track

  • ive seen paul once in tokyo...he's still a fuckin monster player...tall skinny monster with an axe!

  • rocking the neil young look

  • fucking great!!! the name of this song is????

  • i think its called "I Cannot Tell a Lie"

  • fucking great!!! the name of this song is????

  • His intonation is way off here.

  • Very beautiful and melodic solo ..

  • Paul Gilbert always grows, inspires and gives each of us musicians something to look forward to when we pick up our instruments. Just as his peers inspired him to be such an astonishing musician...he himself has become a peer to the rest of us musicians that strive to better ourselves. Paul Gilbert deserves no more than to be recognized as not only a fabulous musician....but a hero and an outstanding person. Paul gilbert, we salute you.

  • Should of worked on his amp settings more sounds like POO POO.

  • i'm pretty sure it's the bad camera. tard lol

  • what do you expect..your watching a recorded video from which looks like a camera phone...dont expect high quality audio..paul gilbert never sounded shitty...go watch him live

  • Musicality don't come with practice.

    It comes with experience.

  • my fav guitar player

  • dont you ever get the feeling that no matter how much you practice you ll never manage to keep up with so demanding playing for a whole show? I mean paul hardly ever makes mistakes. Many of us (me included) when soloing on stage or rehearsal tend to avoid difficult licks and depend on the good old tappings and legatos etc. Getting a lick down is one issue but managing to play your best in front of an audience and with sometimes crappy sound and anxiety is another! I just admire their dedication!

  • Practice is great but you also have to be blessed with extreme talent.

  • Venomsteel ( That sounds like the gayest band name from the 80"s )...practice all you want your never gonna be as good as someone that was born with a gift.......now go suck your mama's tit......peace you dirty bitch.

  • Why must you say such hurtful things.......we all will be waiting for your first vid....peace my brother.

  • LOL.

  • over rated?...yngwie is god, fuck u ignorant...there r a few that can play really damn fast and also have feeling, the man that start that shit was J. Yngwie Malmssteen!...face it, u dont know shit about real music ¬¬...damn i wanna hit u

  • Yengwie is awesome man each and everyone person is different Paul is Paul Yengiwe is Yengwie JP is JP Chris Impelliterri is Chrish Impellitterri Jason Becker is Jason Becker and a few more they all are great and different so appreciate the talent man...Secondly the person who really started shredding was Al Demiola listen to his first CD then shredder guitarists started to come out after Demiola came Yengwie.:)

  • What about Blackmore and Roth? Yngwie was definately not the first to shred, but he created neo-classical.

  • Blackmore created neo clasico

  • No.... he did inspire a little bit though.

  • It's Yngwie, dude.

  • yea my bad spelling error lol

  • I for one don't believe in being "born with a gift". It all comes through not only practicing the guitar, but practicing the correct way, having a passion for not only the instrument but music as well, and making sure your outside influences are pushing you in the direction of becoming a better guitarist (as in, but not limited to, family and friends motivating you, YOU motivating you, listening to music that you like, not just what you are told to like, etc.)

    Peace.

  • I have no doubt that all you said is true, but some people are born with a little extra something that can't be explained.........Hendrix,Mr. Van Halen, Stevie Ray.....I think you get my point....peace.

  • some people have a better are naturally better at something than other people i mean i could practices and practice free throws and still not get any better while some one just does it for a few minutes a day and is amazing at them obviously it takes practice and passion but that does not mean your natural ability does not have a factor

  • didnt know i'd cause such wrath...lol...chil boys

  • out tune and a couple ouches!

    still love em.

  • you should first consider havin an earcheck for tone deafness...paul gilbert has been playing pro since the 80s..your ears are not worthy of listening to class musicianship

  • I didn't say I didn't enjoy it! I'm just saying everyone commits mistakes every now and then.

If you didn't hear the out of tune parts, maybe you're the one not worthy.

  • who are you? i replied to greasykid not you

  • paul is da bomb!

  • u ar cute now paul

  • nice hair paul!

  • A great song, showing that Paul can play with feeling. It's almost as though the slides are a breath, if you will. Don't know if that was his intention, but that's how I see them.

  • That's beautiful man.

  • is anyone else getting no sound from this video ? i have this issue with part2, part3 , part4. i really want to listen to it. thanks in advance

  • No problem here dvmarcilio. They play fine for Me.

  • i cant wait to get this album as soon as it comes out in the U.S.

  • I Cannot Tell A Lie

    from

SILENCE FOLLOWED BY A DEAFENING ROAR

  • this my friends,

    is called music

  • ótima a musica

  • awesome song

  • what????

    what????

  • you'd better be joking!!!!!!

  • Pauls hands are huge.

  • This is not called an IC400. It's just something that Paul ordered from the custom shop. With a slight difference of a small cutaway on the lower cutaway. And I don't think that's offered in the production catalog.

  • This must be his Neil Young looking phase lol

  • satriani NEVER taught paul.

  • what?

  • lol satriani never taught him you nub.

  • You are kidding me right cowtippin4u??

  • He never taught him. I think it was Keith Wyatt at GIT. I may have got his name wrong, but it was definitely not Joe Satriani.

  • Paul Gilbert is the man.

  • It's a reverse Iceman, yes.

  • can i know what iceman is?LOL

  • It is an Ibanez IC400. Paul is using the new 2008 reverse body or left handed body shaped IC400. This is a new offering from Ibanez this year and they have also included the IC400 in the X series and is now called the ICT700 and it has the reverse headstock Wizard II 24 fret neckthrough and the Dimarzio D Activator pups.

  • oh

    thx dude!

    that iceman looks

    really cool!

  • no its not...

  • So is that just an upside down Iceman he is playing?

  • OH WOW THIS IS THE FRIGGIN BEST

  • Hm, and who said Paul Gilbert can't play with feeling? Nice modulation as well. That G3 tour with Satriani taught him something after all. I was half expecting those fast licks to be completely legato....

  • haha why legato? Paul is on of the most accurate alt pickers out there.

  • don't know but it sound more like marty friedman to me

  • What is the modulation, phaser? Flanger?

I know Paul often uses a flanger for various things, not just special lead parts...

  • The song's just great. Soulful playing at its best.

  • This is "I Cannot Tell A Lie".

  • wow!!! paul looks so casual while playing such awsome tunes... really impressive!!

  • cool melody!! =]

  • i wonder if he went straight to Disneyland after the NAMM lol

  • Awesome song!I love it

  • yeees !!! part 2,3 and 4 !!!
