See this is a great piece of art! I see these comments and some are hateful. And I understand. I mean at first I wanted to hate them white loser jerks. then the black loser jerks. and the ending it just was so hard to understand why he would die. He turns good. the ending makes perfect sense, the plot begins with death of a loved one and ends with the death of a loved one. the former died racist (impure in a sense?), the latter died realizing that "hate is baggage, life's too short to be pissed off, it's just not worth it 4:22 " (reverts back to childhood innocence, hence the scenes with children on the beach). its an ambiguous ending that makes people wonder if derek will turn back to violence; the uncertainty is what makes the film great.

Reading these comments, it really, really pisses me off. How anybody can watch a film like this, a film solely about racial discrimination and the pain it causes, and then still bring themselves to blame a character in the film on account of their race? Some fucking idiots have learn nothing from this film, and that irritates me. The point of this film wasn't to highlight how bad black people can be, or white people either. It was to discourage racial discrimination, and prevent race crime.

Problem is, where is the condemnation of black racism, of blacks targeting whites in racial crime? See, the two crimes are given equivalence - Derek killed two criminals stealing his car, Henry killed a kid who blew smoke in his face. That's the nastiness of this film, that Derek is presented as someone who looked for victims to kill, when in fact he did nothing of the sort but stay home. Henry, on the other hand, actively went after Danny.

The first time I saw this ending, like many of the commentors, it really pissed me off. I didn't want Danny to die!! :( Well, idk if i can say it pissed me off, but i was so shocked and upset that that had to happen to him.
The look Derrick has at 3:10 and the "Oh no.." is acting at its finest. It just sounds so genuine the way he says it! You can really sense how sad he is that his brother had to succumb to that fate. Amazing film!

the ending makes perfect sense, the plot begins with death of a loved one and ends with the death of a loved one. the former died racist (impure in a sense?), the latter died realizing that "hate is baggage, life's too short to be pissed off, it's just not worth it 4:22 " (reverts back to childhood innocence, hence the scenes with children on the beach). its an ambiguous ending that makes people wonder if derek will turn back to violence; the uncertainty is what makes the film great.
