The money will go to companies who will sell their credits, as they cut back on carbon use by redesigning their factories. So all that money will be spent one way or another- nobody's going to get rich, except maybe the brokers.

Tata, India's largest steel producer, closed it's UK plant costing 1600 jobs. They sent the plant to India where there are no carbon emission laws & saved 20% on labour costs. They then sold their carbon offsets into the carbon futures market making massive profit at the expense of the 1600 workers. Then a big Co2 producing company buys the same offsets putting the extra cost onto the consumer & in doing so declare themselves carbon neutral at the expense of the same 1600 UK workers. WAKE UP.

After watching this video, I now feel stupider. How cap and trade really works, in plain English: the government put a cap (the 'cap' in cap and trade) on how much a corporation can pollute. if a corporation goes over the limit, it pays a fine. (your 'tax'). If it produces less pollution, it can sell the rest of its quota to another company (the 'trade' in cap and trade). P.S. Cap and trade has been around for over 20 years now and yet the sky hasn't fallen, its called the Clean Air Act.

Check out the Sept 2009 G8 summit info - all the countries attending agree to cut back on their fossil fuel subsidies. So far, Canada has done nothing.

People still can pollute. It's just the overall amount that's limited. Incentives are given to businesses to clean up. It was imposed on industry to control environmental sulphur dioxide levels in 1990. People worried that it would increase costs, but the reverse happened, SO2 emissions fell, and as a result, we don't talk about acid rain anymore.

This video is not only dishonest but It's completely incorrect. I can't say it's a lie because that implies you understand what cap and trade is.
Cap and trade is a yearly limit on CO2 (the cap) which is given to companies in the form of yearly permits. Now, if a company goes stays under the limit they can sell their remaining permits (the trade) to companies that need to pollute more.
This is actually the "free market" solution that was created by Enron and others.

This is a bit too simply put. First off it is not a tax at all. There are no taxes on every level of production and most economists favor this system as it will actually regulate the production sectors by using a supply and demand system for the emissions. The cap is a limit on emissions. The trade is the ability for people who dont use all of their limit to sell them to companies who need more than the limit. The credits will be sold by the companies themselves. Not some secret group.

i didn't like this video...i thought it was a little subjective. If you're going to title a video "cap and trade explained" then explain it. List the positives and negatives of the plan....not just the negatives. You have to have a balance, and this video doesn't provide that at all...it just complains.

Cap&Trade is a good bill. If you guys did your research instead of just saying "socialism is yucky!" you'd know this is going to improve our planet without hurting buisnesses so much as to put us out of work. The money will go to companies who will sell their credits, as they cut back on carbon use by redesigning their factories. So all that money will be spent one way or another- nobody's going to get rich, except maybe the brokers.

Tata, India's largest steel producer, closed it's UK plant costing 1600 jobs. They sent the plant to India where there are no carbon emission laws & saved 20% on labour costs. They then sold their carbon offsets into the carbon futures market making massive profit at the expense of the 1600 workers. Then a big Co2 producing company buys the same offsets putting the extra cost onto the consumer & in doing so declare themselves carbon neutral at the expense of the same 1600 UK workers. WAKE UP.

After watching this video, I now feel stupider. How cap and trade really works, in plain English: the government put a cap (the 'cap' in cap and trade) on how much a corporation can pollute. if a corporation goes over the limit, it pays a fine. (your 'tax'). If it produces less pollution, it can sell the rest of its quota to another company (the 'trade' in cap and trade). P.S. Cap and trade has been around for over 20 years now and yet the sky hasn't fallen, its called the Clean Air Act.

Here in Canada, $1.4 billion of taxpayer's dollars goes to fossil fuel subsidies - in the U.S., it's exponentially more. Check out the Sept 2009 G8 summit info - all the countries attending agree to cut back on their fossil fuel subsidies. So far, Canada has done nothing.

People still can pollute. It's just the overall amount that's limited. Incentives are given to businesses to clean up. It was imposed on industry to control environmental sulphur dioxide levels in 1990. People worried that it would increase costs, but the reverse happened, SO2 emissions fell, and as a result, we don't talk about acid rain anymore.

Cap and trade is a yearly limit on CO2 (the cap) which is given to companies in the form of yearly permits. Now, if a company goes stays under the limit they can sell their remaining permits (the trade) to companies that need to pollute more.
This is actually the "free market" solution that was created by Enron and others.

every hour, enough energy falls on the earth to power all of humanity's demand for a whole year. if we had the means to harvest a fraction of that energy, we wouldn't need to pay anything for energy at all. it takes investment, but it's sustainable. fossils arent.

Solar is extremely expensive and not very efficient and unlike you I don't support covering the entire surface of the planet in solar panels. That would be an ecological disaster that we can't afford to do anyways.
Once again these technologies currently aren't cost effective.

I just made a short list of democrats ALREADY convicted of cheating on thier taxes (most recently Senator Charles Rangle) - you wouldn't accept "proof" from me anyway, whether all the evidence against darwinism or evidence in court cases against democrat tax cheats .... Where are the rest of your convictions to make a claim that all democrats are tax evading cheats and etc? I will accept demonstratable and recreatable scientific proof from you. I'm willing to pay for a United States that not only reduces it's temperature(?) but it's dependence on oil. Oil is limited and dangerous to aquire. We can transform the way we generate our energy over time simply out of the desire to reduce the higher costs that cap and trade provides. That's the point.

@1slonova Solar, wind, biofuel. Where have you been? All you have to do is look at other countries that don't rely as heavily on oil as we do. They're way ahead of us in those areas. Those technologies can only improve especially when you add in the cost cutting incentive of cap and trade.

@1slonova solar-thermal systems!As effective as coal power and can use similar turbines!Has been proven to work in large-scale applications.
Pretty much the same system but uses the sun to heat the water to drive the turbines, not coal.

This is a bit too simply put. First off it is not a tax at all. There are no taxes on every level of production and most economists favor this system as it will actually regulate the production sectors by using a supply and demand system for the emissions. The cap is a limit on emissions. The trade is the ability for people who dont use all of their limit to sell them to companies who need more than the limit. The credits will be sold by the companies themselves. Not some secret group.

i didn't like this video...i thought it was a little subjective. If you're going to title a video "cap and trade explained" then explain it. List the positives and negatives of the plan....not just the negatives. You have to have a balance, and this video doesn't provide that at all...it just complains.

Cap&Trade is a good bill. If you guys did your research instead of just saying "socialism is yucky!" you'd know this is going to improve our planet without hurting buisnesses so much as to put us out of work. Essentially it's going to force companies to follow a cap on carbon emissions, and they can "trade" with the government to extend their pollution cap in exchange for money. Money used to help the workers and down trodden.

Who pays for that? Well I guess you could say every time there is a natural disaster or shift in climate, "there's a tax" and it's far greater than any cost that industry would pay to clean up their emissions through cap and trade.

Yes, cap and trade will cost money. But it will create jobs in green energy and updating the energy grid. And the cost of it will pale in comparison to the cost of doing nothing, which means more floods in some areas, droughts in others, more violent hurricanes that we must clean up after (remember Katrina? New Orleans is still wrecked). Money to build walls to keep rising sea levels from flooding the coast.
