Sarah Brightman is a wonderful and obviously trained singer, but I can't get over Crawford...The notes that Gerard hits and the power and emotion in his voice make him a better singer for the Phantom. (I'm sure this comment will get lots of dislikes lol)
have seen this a total of 3 times here in Cleveland - and justly pissed that it'll never return to the city.... though i do have to say, seeing it for my last time, I took my girlfriend, and we sat 10 rows from the stage - simply amazing performance as always...... i guess now the only way i'll see it again is by going to Vegas lol.
This is a lot different from the Michael ball version I think it is just as good and better in some areas of acting, but i still like it better when Michael Ball belts out the top notes better the Michael Crawford, but Crawford has a way better phantom characteristic to his voice on the madness side making this one just as great =).
I'll be singing Sarah's part in this song for my school's talent show!~ I'm glad her voice isn't ridiculously high like some of the others have done. Its easy for me to sing in her voice range. I love this song!~ I just might post a cover here on YouTube. :)
I never linked the Phantom and Frank Spencer. Never. It just shows how versatile Michael is that he can play this seductive, passionate, dark character so perfectly and emotionally - and then he can be absolutely hilarious as this dippy, clumsy, idiotic everyday man. True genius.
@LoveFromShinola Genius he is, a real living legend, to be able to portray people that are so far apart in the spectrum of acting and singing. I know of no one else past or present who could ever pull that off with such brilliance.
@thephantom1946 It nevertheless sounds awfully artificial ... and the voices would have deserved music which sounds as alive as they and not like cheap big band music out of the can.
I hear the phantom of the opera since i was 2 years old,my mum played to me,so I grew up hearing, then I watched the movie, and I got myself in love, ever since,I've watched the movie a thousand times, this year I went to NY(I'm brazilian) I'm 15 now,and I went to see the play.I Cried like someone was dying when they played overture when the chandelier goes up,and everytime a song started I cried again trying not make noise.I just wanted to share this, cause any of my friends love it the way I do.
Sarah was amazing! And Michael Crawford nailed The Phantom! He was brilliant. He has quite a different voice from most male singers & that makes his Phantom really stand out! Plus he is only actor to capture the true spirit of the way the character was written in the novel. His Phantom is quite mad! You can hear the insanity in practically every note he sings & that my friends is what makes him the definative Phantom Of The Opera!
I actually went to a live stage performance on the West Coast some years ago. It was full of memorable melodic songs throughout. My physical presence in the theater made me feel like I was on the stage rather than in the audience. No doubt, it’s the most unforgettable and favorite opera I’ve ever been to.
I love phantom of the opera. One of Webber's best in my opinion. But I find it irritating that the version from Nightwish has way more views. That isn't right.
Beautiful, haunting, dark music. Saw the original musical many years ago at the Music Center here in Los Angeles with Chris Gaines, Michael Crawford's understudy.
I was 13 when I first saw this on Broadway shortly after opening. It made me fall in love with the theatre, and Sarah Brightman. There will never be a Phantom as powerful as Michael Crawford, nor will there be a Christine as Powerful as Sarah Brightman.
Thanks for posting this. I have no chance to see Michael’s performance on stage, but I can still tell he is the best phantom from video and CDs. He has a voice like silk and crystal. And the way he uses it is even more beautiful. His sensibility gives it soul. It’s not surprising that someone just can’t appreciate it as there are people listen without ear, sing without heart:)
Can anyone explain to me what it means when the lady who brought him there tells him to 'keep his hands at the level of his eyes' i don't get why she says that?
@Thevixen8 In the book it is much clearer. Erik's(Phantom) signature weapon is a noose/punjab lasso, and the theory is that if you keep your hand at the level of your eyes, when he wraps the rope around your neck, because your hand is caught too, it will be easier for you to slip out of the lasso.
As much as I love that musical, the book is alot better! You should read it.
@ZodiacBryan Yes, in the 2006 movie and on stage he has no real name.. but fans call him Erik anyway. is last name is never mentioned in the original book so people make up all kinds of different last names.

@jpineaultful That was where I first saw her actually. I knew the Phantom of the Opera with Gerald Butler in it and then I found out Sarah Brightman did this as well. I LOVE her as Blind Mag. She does the character so well.

I found this on casset and, since i have a '90 honda w/ out a cd player, I listen to it everytime I go out. I cant decide which is better, this or movie version??? Oh well, they both send shivers down my spine lol.

If you are a truth seeker, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click on the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says. Everyone needs to see this. The Present will turn this world right-side up if it reaches enough people. You will see what I mean when you read the first page.

@jpineaultful That was where I first saw her actually. I knew the Phantom of the Opera with Gerald Butler in it and then I found out Sarah Brightman did this as well. I LOVE her as Blind Mag. She does the character so well.

you're not gonna tell me this is better than Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum?...
FrostAntiS 6 months ago
@FrostAntiS They're equally good, just in different ways.
xalonexinxthexdarkx 6 months ago
@FrostAntiS AMEN! Gerard Butler and Emmie Rossum are not fit to carry water for greats such as Crawford and Brightman.
