Tahtib s a dance for 2 men where they show theatrical fight. Their sticks r not longer, they r just bigger then female's cos of the difference in height n power. Usually men show Tahtib in the beginning of the dance without music, just the sound of sticks stroke n then make choreography.
One man can never show Tahtib by himself, its show for 2 men. Usually its very hard powerful fight. Women doesnt dance Tahtib.
yes, u r right n not right. there r 2 kind of Saidi with sticks.First s Raks al Assaya, originally danced just by men, but then women took this dance n changed so now it could be danced both by man or woman. U r alone on a stage n u show ur masterly technique of cane dance. Surely for women its more refined, sexy n woman dance more with her body while men use cane a lot.
Would you call this dance a Tahtib? I've heard that the Raks Al Assaya is a more "feminine" cane dance based on a dance that was performed by men, and that this "men's" dance in turn evolved from practicing their fighting techniques with long sticks.
