  • I have a BMW 2010 GT and have a question. When I connect my iPod in the center console with a regular iPod usb cable, it'll read and play everything except read playlists. Any idea what could be causing this?

Specifically choosing songs/albums is pretty annoying.

  • Will it play your streaming music?

  • I have a 2008 135i with the USB adapter w/o Idrive.

My USB won't recognize the Iphone any Idea? any comments would help! I tried with a Regular I pod and worked perfectly! ty

  • You need to get the BMW adapter.

  • Hello i have a BMW 330d Xdrive 02/2009, I connected the iphone through Bluetooth and i can use the idrive to make calls and control the addrress book from joystick.

I see i have also the space to use the snap in as in your Video. But i dont have the USB port near the AUX IN (I have only the aux in).The only USB i have is on the port object in front of passenger (there down)Will i be able using the snap in adapter for the Iphone to play music from Iphone as in your video through the joystick?

  • @italiansky did you ever get this sorted, i have the same situation as you, no USB in the console but i do have the phone cradle, i can't see or control the iphone's ipod through the idrive. i am guessing i would need the USB adapted in the centre console to make it all work as in the video. :-( £612 for the retrofit!

  • Hi I have a 2007 BMW 325 Cab, do you know If I can upgrade the idrive software to he 2009 version.

BMW here have given me 3 different answers Yes, No and Not Sure. lol

  • i have the 335xi 2010... when i plug an ipod nano with the ipod plug, it works just fine...but when i use it for the iphone... it says not compatible and doesnt play my music

  • This might sound like a stupid question, but does the iphone integration charge the phone while it's hooked up?

  • @asdf9036 Yes the iPhone is charged while plugged into to the console.

  • Hello again.

On a 09 335i w/Nav, when I plug in an iPhone to the center console using the BMW cable (USB & Mini Jack) it works just fine.

However, I also want to plug in my iPod to the glove compartment USB. Can this be done? It's not recognizing the iPod at all. Even when I disconnect the iPhone and use the BMW cable to plug either the iPhone or iPod...the car won't see it.

    Thanks

  • Hi, I am pretty sure that only one ipod/iphone/itouch can be controlled at a time. I haven't tried what you are talking about.

I have only used the glovebox usb for mp3 song import, which by the way sounds better than any i-device I have ever used. The bass is especially more pronounced when songs are played from the car's hard drive. Try it sometime.. import a few songs & play them, then play those same ones on the ipod.. nowadays I only use the car's internal songs collection for music.

  • Interesting. I have iTunes so not real sure how to get MP3's out of the 4's iTunes uses. How many songs can the car hold?

Just found out the pins are broken on the USB. Brand new car...

  • Sorry to hear that. To export songs, all you have to do is highlight/select them in itunes, and drag right out of itunes into a usb drive folder. Then, the import is easy, as long as you know to click the "Option" next to the MMI once you are in the AUX IN USB page on the Nav screen. The trick is, use the same USB drive every time and you won't have a new folder name created in the car every time you import.

As far as songs? I have about 400 mp3s loaded and it still has 9GB free in the car.

  • Hey NewMetroDesign,

I am planning to get the iphone adapter but the parts manager isn't too sure if the adapter will need labour work -- do you know if you had to pay for the labour work?

  • When you come back to the car after leaving the car...do you have to manually link the phone and car, or once it's paried it does it automatically? Thx

  • bluetooth access is done automatically once paired.

  • Also must add, make sure to leave Bluetooth on on your phone so the process will be as seamless as possible. It does take a toll on your battery life, but thats why you have the car integration.

  • perfect for dynolicious!

  • WOW this is a MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN MY I-DRIVE. (e90 325i)......now mine feels antique...LOL .BTW... I use bluetooth for all iphone calls and have a separate ipod in the glovebox for music. Do u get Sharkfin reception when using bluetooth? Thanks for posting

  • Hi Bryan, congrats on the new car! I have a few questions:

    1. Did you hook up the Y-cable to the iPhone 3G snap-in adapter?

    2. If not, does the 6NF option together with the snap-in adapter and 6FL option take care of all the stuff you just showed?

Appreciate it if you would leave a message, thanks!

  • Regarding 1: Yes, i used that connection until the snap-in adapter was in stock. You can also have 2 devices hooked up at the same time - an iPod with the Y-adapter and an iPhone in the snap-in. However the snap-in will override the Y-cable. About 2.: The 6NF option and snap-in adapter is all you need. I don't know if you need to buy the 6FL option as well but it would be a good idea since it only $150 and will cost much more to install later.

  • Hi Bryan!

I consulted the dealer and I do have the 6NF, 6FL options and also the iPhone 3G snap-in adapter. When I place my iPhone in the adapter it just charges and I can call through the roof antenna but I can't get the iPod function to work cuz the car system doesn't recgonize it. When I connect with the Y-cable it does work. Any advice?

  • Oh also see in your vid that you have the "optional" 6NF base. Is that something which is needed BESIDES the 6NF option?

  • Hi, there are only three parts to this system. 1. The Car, 2. The 6NF option for the car which provides the base you will see in the center console, and 3. The snap-in adapter base that the iPhone snaps into.

So, you say you have the preinstalled car options but not the snap-in base? You can't snap-in the iphone without that base.

The 6FL option and Y-cable are for music only. If you have the iPhone in the snap-in adapter, it will override any ipod plugged into the Ycable.

  • Hi Bryan, do you have the 6NF option for smart phone integration? I'm having probs getting the music from my iPhone with the 3G cradle.

    Thanks,

  • Yes, you'll need the 6NF and a phone specific snap-in adapter. In this case of course the iPhone 3G adapter.

  • according to bmwna. there is no such thing as a (3G) snap-in adapter for the iphone. where did you get this from. i have a 07 7series and i only found one for the original iphone, which doesnt fit. will the one in this video fit in my car?

  • growrichkid, it is available, it just may take a little while to get into all of the dealerships in the U.S. from Germany

  • That's a good question. I think the iPhone 3G adapter will work in any BMW with the 6NF package preinstalled. You may have to contact a larger dealership or wait a little while longer. I bought the iPhone 3G adapter from the BMW factory direct.

  • I forgot to tell you about the car - it is a US Spec car that I picked up in Germany.

  • Did you get that 7 percent discount for the European Delivery Program? Did you take it on the autobahn

  • I bought it from Military Sales, I live in Germany. Yes, I use the autobahn A7 to get to work each day. Hope this video helps, seems like the snap-in with iphone 3G in the 2009 iDrive is still not understood, even by the dealership technicians.

  • Really? Since you say the dealership techicians are clueless on this, how did you deal with this problem?

How does the bundeswehr sell BMWs?

  • The Bundeswehr doesn't sell them. It is through the old Military sales program that has been around to support troops stationed here.

  • surprising a married man was able to purchase the BMW with a manual transmission. lucky man

  • Perfect video thank you
