I didn't know that the Japanese palate isn't fond of Bell Pepper. Interesting that they talk about cooking the bell pepper enough to get rid of it's raw taste like its an onion something. Fish (especially bass) and bell pepper go together so well, it seems as though they would have worked it into Japanese cooking by now.
This comment applies for every battle..I just wonder what the outcome would be if it were not an all Japanese panel...but not saying Kobe didnt win..just what would happen if this were in Italy..Germany..China..then what?

this program SUCKS...AN ITALIAN CHEF...wont cook a certain old fashion dishes...and kobe is ridiculos as well...take a look on gualtiero marchesi...raviolo aperto...that is the real one...
I agree, I think the Italian's food looked much more tasty. The Italian motto of food is "the simplest food is the best", unlike the Iron Chef mentality of making things super complex. But of course, you have to know how to serve your customers.
yeah i heard it from Molto Mario, Italian food are simple, I used to other pizza with everything in it but theres so many topping I cannot appreciate what i was eating after watching mario i then tried a simple pepperoni pizza then I understood what he meant, it was simply heaven
Kobe has the natural advantage, since the entire panel is Japanese and he knows better how the Japanese prefer bell peppers. The challenger i think made traditional S. Italian dishes and thats why they didnt score big with the panel. Whereas Kobe did more creative dishes, which is how you win Iron Chef. Remember that taste isn't the only thing the panel takes into consideration.
the presentation of gemmoli's dishes were a drawback. if you look at his pizza and three peppers appetizer, quite frankly, it looks like slop. for some reason, they didn't show the tasting of the challengers rack of lamb.

the same thing would happen in the France battles. the French chefs gave the iron chefs 15's and their own chefs 18's

I believe Iron Chef should be an international franchise instead of limiting themselves to Japan or the US.

I wonder if those Italian chefs are thinking, "Fix!"
But great job, Kobe.. nonetheless. :)
freshsprout 4 years ago 3
haha. Kobe managed to shut them up.
But thn. again many Europeans esp. Italians like their veges. more "raw" esp. onions, garlics & etc.
Their taste bud varies too.
But Kobe's dishes are really a feast to EYES!

I don't see how anyone could not like bell peppers. But I suppose everyone has different tastes.
Personally, I really hate pizza. I'm weird that way.

It's too disgusting.
The judges were sucking on the rack of the lamb.

gemmoli made delicious food. he deserves the win
kalindoscopy 4 years ago
No way man. His dishes were way too simple. I could have done what he did. None of his dishes made me go..."Damn! I wanna try some of that!"
oopopp 4 years ago
his stuff was simply perfect, not some japanese representation of italian cuisine.
kalindoscopy 4 years ago 2
His pizza was burnt.
His hollow macaroni was fucked him.

damn at point Kobe had 1 win and 8 losses? mistake in translation?
kensei1984 4 years ago
Yes, he meant that challengers against Kobe had lost 7 times and won only once
1977bobbob 4 years ago
Yea mistake in translation. Kobe's record is 7-1 before this battle, so this win put him at 8-1. Pretty good considering he hardly gets to compete.
piratebri 4 years ago
It's not a mistake in translation. Re-read it again. He was mentioning the Big Leaguers record.
