@LukeDayInTheUK Grand Funk's drummer did it nearly 20 years before tommy lee copied it. He was the first. And Carl Palmer did the twirling cage thing back in the early 70's, so everybody is copying those guys actually...and not doing all that good of a job of it either

Mate Joey Jordison is fuckin sick, highly rate this drummer, but this solo is gay. hes just goin fast cos thats what impresses stupid non drummers. really fast around the kit, made sound even faster by double bass pedals. no groove is right.
Although dont get me wrong hes got the skill, and in songs hes sick.

I'm not a fan of this solo, its just so random and there's no groove (cept at 2:36). Plus its practically identical to the Disasterpiece solo. You'd think he'd come up with a new solo in the years between. One trick much?
Oh well, I like the music he makes. But people gotta stop saying he's the better than every other drummer. Cuz thats an ignorate statement. Best overall doesn't exist. But you can say he's the best at being in slipknot. That my friends is the complete truth.

You can have raw speed, BUT if you can also implement it within a groove I find it makes what your playing so much more powerful and meaningful, but thats my creative perspective as a drummer. Thats why I said I love his work in Slipknot, cuz your getting the his speed in a groove of the song. This perspective is unique to me, as is yours. But IMO your getting too mad over it.

His drumming is fast but it just doesnt cut it. If some of you started to listen to metal back in the early 80s then you would understand. Its not just about speed! Its about originality and technique.
in my opinion Joey doesnt have it. Honestly, Joey isn't THAT good. He's fast, but that's all. His solos are really weak. He just spams combo after combo.

The sad thing is that good drumming is dying as an art. Even the kids who hate JJ fail to mention some of the greatest drummers of all time. Sure, Bonham and Moon were great, but if we're going to say that JJ and Bonham are the best drummers ever we're ignoring 40 years of drumming history.
