I have recently had the the opportunity to purchase a 57 station wagon Townsman, I guess from the 210 series. It runs. But it is not the original engine. This car is not in bad shape but still needs a lot of work. What is a round about price ? Suggestions?
$30,000 is about what this '57 Ragtop is worth, it looks solid & original but it looks rough & flawed & tired out & seen better days. It's a driver quality car that you don't need to treat with kid gloves. I would even call this a project, if you want the really nice ones that are turn key & ready to go you've got pay at least $55,000 to $100,000. I've seen ones for $45,000 that were nice but had issues like the top not working etc.
my father baught a 57 Cevy wagon at first my mither thought it was gratee i was 13 after 410000 the power glide gives out well it might have been undersized of it was the famed 283 well a few weeks latter I believe a cylder head gasket gave out they felt it was due for a gridin millage was not good in, 62 it was repaed with a rambler I learned to drive onl,ih I was in hawai 19 years ago driving I saw a two ten wagon and it wa the same color
@spockistheman I watch Barret jackson some times. Thay autioned off a 57 chevy convertible I believe it was over a cool $100,000. it was flawless.Don't know who bought it though.
@NoDakBees I agree its worth more like it is very impressive to see it original ? i cant stand to see these cars butchered and painted red or what ever, patina an originality is the best
mikestheman3, I agree. Every 57 was ultra pretty from Rambler to Cadillac that year, and that year only for every make. Put that Chevy next to a 57 Dodge Lancer or DeSoto Adventurer convertible, they would blow the Chevy away in looks and style. People are programmed today. It's like music............The Tokens did tons of different songs, all great...... What do the people want to hear? The Lion Sleeps Tonight...................... their worst song. They are programmed
MEGA great find, no doubt! I just don't understand why the Chevy's draw so much attention when there are sooooo many of them and are sooooo common to see one. Just about every car built in 57 was just as pretty if not prettier. Don't get me wrong, I love Chevy's, but if I had my pick for 57 it wouldn't be a Chevy.
@mikestheman3 I used to love the 57 Chevy, but they are getting (and have been for a while) very overrated. I was just at the latest Pate swap meet, and every tri-5 Chevy there was 6000 on up even fo basket cases. I have a 59 El Camino, not so common, there was only one there. I am happy with it and think it has way more style. They can keep their golden 55-57s.
@jerywilliams yeah you're right about that. Back in 57, the Ford was the big seller, where as the Chevy would gain more recognition in later years and becoming very overrated. I've driven a couple of them in my life time and enjoyed them. I've owned a 55 and 56 in the past. now I have a 57 Ford F-100 and am proud of it. I'd like to get a 57 Ford Fairlane to go with it. They're just as god looking, if not more than the Chevy and probably cheaper to purchase too.
@garywayne1966 Don't take me for a Chevy hater, I love em! Sorry, if i offend you, but i just could never own or drive a Ford. i have just never been attracted to any of their body styles. If thats what you like, than more power to you. I was just raised on G.M. But as long as you're a car guy, thats cool.
@jerywilliams No you didn't offend me. I had Chevys most of my life, in fact I have a 99 Chevy Venture. I'm not partial to any make as I have owned Chrysler, G.M. and Ford. I even had an International Travelall at one time. I bought the Ford truck because it looked good and has not been altered, it was running and driveable, and was under $2000.00. I look at it this way, there's good and bad with every make of vehicle.
@garywayne1966 I have owned other makes too, i am drawn to just about any old car like an electromagnet on steroids. But because i was raised anti -Ford, i just can't like them. Its the old rivalry like the Hatfields and McCoys! On a different subject though, its not just the tri-five Chevys that are overpriced. Anything Chrysler Hemi or made by Carol Shelby is now treated like it was touched by God herself. Anything that was a factory muscle car has gotten stupid high on price.
THIS IS WORTH $40,000-$45,000 AS IT SITS ON THE CURRENT MARKET TODAY. I HAVE DONE 75 RESTORATIONS OF 1957'S FOR THIRTY YEARS AND BELIEVE ME THIS IS THE TRUTH. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT IT SOLD FOR! ANYONE HAVE THAT INFO OF KNOW IT IT IS STILL AVAILIBLE?
To whoever bought that: please, oh PLEASE, do not restore it. All it needs is to be in running roadworthy condition. Remember: They are only original once.
I got offered a 1957 Chevrolet Belair ,2Dr ,Hdtp , Convertible in triple white, with a spare on the back ,Dealorship installed.2500 bucks in 1981.How much did that go for?
I bet that's one happy fella there. People dream of barn finds like that. They are definitely getting few and far between.Like MrLoco61 said it looks like a good cleaning and a tune up and it would be on the road again. Thanks for the post Dan.

Keep it as-is, with original paint. Give it red-rimmed rat-rod style rims with whitewall tires. Would look really awesome!

Rumor has it sold for around $30,000, but I don't know for sure? This solid, that's a fair price, it would be an easy builder to a hi dollar car.

I would get it running and leave it be. I like the distressed look. Oh, I might clean and wax it but the original paint, chrome and interior stays!

I hope it was left as is. I love the patina and natural state of this car. What a find.
