  • As Dutch.. for the pop culture I like to listen to WRD 4, German radio. For myself I like to listen to Armin van Buuren, best DJ in the world. He might use older, pop/classic and other kinds of music, make it brighter, by making it acceptable for a larger group of people. For instance.. take Tiesto and his adagio for strings. (drama). There's no one who aks themselves what's the real play of it without listening to Tiesto's version. But when they listen to that, loots want hear the Barber vers.

  • :four thousand 420 views :p Ganja

  • easy!!! cloud computed realtime 3d enviorments!!!

and after that spirtuality concepts!!! again...

    then hyperspeed space travel...

    then biological catalysation...

then war!!! again... then spiritual concepts in 4d realtime computed enviorments!!!

  • the next big thing is..... violence

  • Phenom is pronounced with a short E and not pheeeenom. Stop watching the moronic American sports announcers and get a talking dictionary. It`s short for phenomenal, you pronounce that word as pheeeenomena tooÉ

  • so what...shes great poet

i suppose you would complain about an ugly volume knob on a 800000 Porsche 911. "what a maroon" - bugs bunny

  • This video was made on my "special day"...

    Kurt Vonnegut ftw :)

  • I will be the next big thing .. Heck , I am the big thing ...That is if you think a 6 foot tall man is big

Okay, okay I am the next average ordinary banal very common thing ...That's better then being nothing at all, at least I am something in this day and age anything is better then...just imagine one day you wake up and you are nothing noting at all just like Mil Gibson...Noting what soever just a has been who made serial movies but in his last flick he killed the main character:-)

    Gaus

  • Sorry Mel not Mil Mi-24 (Cyrillic Миль Ми-24, NATO reporting name 'Hind') is a large helicopter gunship of former Soviet Union....

    My bad:-)

  • By the By.......I thought "Apps" were the next "Big Thing">....

  • Let's just hope this time around you're not included. This post/diatribe was useless and superfluous. You used to do better. Dare I suggest the limelight has sucked you dry as well? .........You're still nice to look at though!....;)

  • Lady GAGA?

  • The next big things... Vaccine damage, Damascus and water.

  • PopTarts will always be popular. They just have to keep showing more skin to get noticed (yawn).

  • you are fucking sexy! i want you,, theresident.

  • damn, you are very beautiful

  • I wish this video would go viral.

  • Yes, let us hope.

  • I liked it! I think you meant "hones" rather than "homes".

  • No, she's right. It's homes. Like homes as in zooming in or closing in on something. Hones is like making something better, like honing a skill by specializing in it.

Yo, The Resident. I love your videos but can you do another one like Cuerpo Sin Alma? That video was awesome.

  • No, I think "homes" is correct. Like a homing missile.

  • nice job!

  • Well written.

  • PixieVixxen, thank you for your positive comment :)

It's a rare treat. Love your name too.

  • If your left tittie could talk, it'd totally be saying something right now.

  • Politics and pop culture have or are starting to merge more than ever. Evidenced by Barack Obama constantly being in the gossip sections. The guy has enough to do already without having to worry about what shoes he is wearing. Anyway, about what you are talking about, I think part of the reason is that no one has values anymore. I don't mean religious. I mean they ride whatever wave comes along. people don't know who they are.

  • I can now see the bags under her eyes (The Resident)...looks like "journalism" is taking its toll on her.

  • I always did my own thing !

    Excellent Video Resident !

  • Why does something have to be sunstantive? I like junk. Junk keeps us going.

  • YEAH !

    You say it all !

  • Don't look now babe, but it's you and iJustine, and a whole host of teeny will-bes grabbing the limelight.

Only this time it's pixel light, typically it lasts for 1:44, and then you have to start all over again.

But you're all a million miles better than Paris and Mylie and all the rest.

  • Very good point...

  • Next big thing is the

    2012 Shift in Global Consciousness.

    The Golden Age of Enlightenment.

  • ???... people become more and more uneducatet !!!

  • I'm the next big thing, but don't tell anyone. I was never on the Micky Mouse Club, but we've found a way around that.

  • You seem to be aging fast,.

  • What is the Deal man ? I trust Resident WAY MORE then most people ! I think she looks great !

  • In this video you are in 'the spotlight' ... are you saying you want to be the next big thing? Yet you don't want to be sucked dry... I bet even Paris didn't want to be.

Interesting technique adds a different spin on the message.

  • the masses... the masses ... the masses... the masses... it's called a thesaurus

and instead of trying to be creative by posting some ridiculous quip on youtube wondering what the next mindless distraction will be, .why don't you make a short video telling people to read and educate themselves on what's REALLY going on in the world rather than what the media tells them. but math science and geography would be a good start.

  • I think The Resident has made plenty of videos touching upon serious subjects, all of which offers an interesting alternative to corporate media and pop culture. Adding to that, your initial comment about using a thesaurus seems a bit rude considering its a ad hominem attack, and has little to do with the issues expressed in the video.

Knowledge is accessible, particularly concerning word conflict, suffering, death. However there needs to be a will for the people to strive for such knowledge

  • you and I need to suck face

  • whatever it is lets just hope emo is gone for good :P

  • nice... u look like an angel!

  • i wish you were my wife :)

  • The current onslaught of stoooopid "reality" paranormal TV shows is what's dumbing down our society at the moment. It's out of control. Let's hope that it's having it's peak and will soon be a ghost itself. "Reality" shows in general are out of hand and are anything but reality.

  • During every generation the old farts always say that "the kids of this generation are out of hand". But now everyone has to admit that this generation is fucking boring. I'm not impressed!

  • Maybe America will spend a few more centuries focusing on Carrie Prejean's sex tape and Sarah Palin's linguistic abilities.

  • That sort of reminded me of Stone Sour's "The Frozen".

  • OK you can read .... :-|

  • Whoa, wait, they had SUPER poptarts? O_O!?

    Do want.

  • It's all, the style I mean, coming back around to George Peppardish, cigars, safari jackets and khaki shirts with epaulets!!!!

  • She had me at, "...then the rotation begins again..."

  • I think there was a time when Disney, or popculture for that matter had some fuel that was worth running on. But it gave up on trying to have that, the people who run the machine made sure of it. It now runs on what they want it to run on, what they want us to run on; the fuel isn't found Lori, it's provided. Those bright lights are pointed at one spot directly, then when they see fit, or get bored, the lights fade and shift. Exactly like Disney too.

  • shouldn't you be in an emo band somewhere?

  • Shouldn't you go nail yourself to a wall?

  • Yeah. What will tickle the fickle finger of fate's fancy next?

  • I'm NOT a fan of these Disney pop stars myself,

However I have a lot of admiration for Disney Corp as a global entity. This isn't the ideal forum to debate and or post the many facets of an iconic American Corporation but to seemingly judge Disney's merit based on the "poptarts" segment is baseless.

Facts is...young people will always go wild over their hyped up peer popstars. And Disney will roll them out for ur kids and grandkids..just like it did when U were that age. Market Determines.

  • lalalalalalalalalalalalala NO

  • wow, there's several words in there i'm going to write down and memorize

  • Don't like it, then don't watch it.

  • notice how you're not actually defending anything she said.

  • I wouldn't call the video arrogant. I think she is right. Although I agree she can be arrogant at times. But I think she does hit the nail on the head quite often.

  • Love it. And I like you because you're such an intelligent strong woman.

  • She reading cue card dum-dum... Look her eyes.!!

  • @quixgofar I know that "dum dum." She's intelligent to have had these thoughts to begin with. She has very good ideas.

  • The point, whether or not she is reading a cue card, is that she wrote the material herself. dum dum...

  • Who cares where our pop culture goes, with robotic bloodcells on its way, everyone will be the same intellectual robot anyways.

  • ill show u my next big thing HA!

  • next big thing is wholesomeness and integrity. greed and overindulgence has been done to death already

  • naw, i'd say itll be around a few more seasons

  • this sounded like bad poetry.

the "sucking dry" talk turned me on, tho...

if she would've followed that up with a "love you long time" or a "$5 sucky-sucky", i would've exploded in my pants.

  • Shirley Temple

  • i like this

  • Great points here. Excellent well thought out video.

  • Possibly spirituality ?? Is that the 'new' big thing ? Where is this movie 2012 coming from..... and 'The Secret' ..... we do ned a new sprituality as this may dawn at the beginning of this millenium... somone will be there to package it and sell it andultimately devalue any of the worth in it......resist...justr be spiritual yourself... you don;t need to buy spirituality...what do you think ?

  • Pop culture will never offer substance. Because the artists and entertainers with substance get looked over. There are amazing artists out there yet they will never catch the eye of pop culture because people are STUPID. And I'm ok with it. Just stay away from the good artists I like and dont ruin them. Then we'll be ok. :)

  • the next pop thing is lady gaga!

  • Cultural movements aren't always mindless. Hello? The Renaissance? The Enlightenment? I expect the next big thing to be a new political revolution.

  • I was prepared to rip this apart because I am in a bad fucking mood.

I could not. This was thoughtful.

    Nice job.

  • The next big thing will be overrated.

  • Any discussion of pop culture is self-extinguishing...since no one is going to admit to being a contributing member of the mindless cult that so characterizes it.

Perhaps if one perceived and dealt with our culture as suffering from a form of disease, we could then admit to our collective affliction, and unify in the search for a cure...perhaps we'd all wear chatreuse ribbons.

  • fail!

  • Disney isn't evil...think about it....

  • the left tip of your right eye brow needs some plucking

  • Pop culture is a reflection of the culture at large. The outrageousness of pop culture over the last few years is a reflection of the what had been going on in America and the world in general. What with the unjust wars, political lies from our leaders, over spending and investment speculation that got completely out of hand until the world experienced a financial meltdown. All of a sudden the carrying on's of this or that Hollywood bimbo seemed rather unimportant and trite.

  • You can be sure that where our political, financial and social culture goes in the future our popular culture is sure to follow and mirror back to us.

  • I truely hope so! I am too Jaded and Tired of seeing mindless and non-substance in the pop culture.

  • Hello,Lori.

The popculture spotlight, may be monetarily driven. When a small popular event occurs,it seems the big star makers glom on quickly. If there is a buck to be made, corporations dive for it.

With any luck,"reality" television will fade from favor. But,with karma being what it is,soon, movies will be shot based on past "reality" shows and stars.

    Read any good books lately?

  • The next big empty fodder for the masses?

    Obama.

  • well said, Lori ;D

    keep em coming!

  • That Twilight craze. that's overkill. similar to Harry Potter a few years back.

  • im not sure what the next big thing will really be, but im sure that this isnt it......

  • Holy Toledo Lori! This is great - and I can't help but be stunned by your screen persona. Way to go!!!

  • Theresident -- I THINK THAT YOU ARE THE NEX BIG THING:))

  • You know what's sad and done to death? That hackneyed way of cutting between different angles crossed with Apple-esque advertising minimalism that FLOODS YouTube. I had hoped that you'd be above that awful trend.

Whatever the hell you do, DON'T start making make up tutorials.

  • OH NOOOOOOOooooo!

Is the celebrity Obama who actually stole the spotlights and cranked up the brightness going to suffers such a fate?

    Tell me it isn't true.

  • *applauds*

    I know. Zombie Michael Jackson.

  • britney is still in spot light

  • You said "suck dry" twice...that was hot

  • À bas le postmodernism!

  • Maybe the next big thing will be.....ppl asking..."Well, who's the one who is controlling the spotlight...and why..?"

  • Niiiccccceeee!!.... beautifully stated!!

    You'd make a great poet.

  • Thanks kenne210! :)

  • Blasphemer! Pray for forgiveness: Our Culture, Who art in Disney Hallowed be thy fads Thy media come Thy will be done On Earth as it is in reality shows Give us this day our daily meme And forgive us our paparazzi As we forgive those who insult Taylor Swift And lead us not into real news But deliver us from thinking. Amen. In the name of the Britney, and the Taylor, and the holy Miley, Amen.
  • Lori, you're a poet and I didn't know it.

It seems the pop culture machine is working better than ever. They've already found their next victims--Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, and maybe those Twilight characters(I think this one will fizzle out quicker though).

    "It's impossible to predict..."

Hmmm, I don't know about that. The producers of this garbage are about as mindless as the fodder they churn out. Basically, it's the same garbage by a different name.

  • This is true, NsaneNtheNbrane - they aren't very imaginative. Although I include Miley and those bros to be part of the Disney-characters-made-of-kids batch. :)

  • Next big thing. Electric cars. Everyone will want one.

  • Lori, I've been a fan of your videos for years now, but I was looking back and realized that I used to love your work because it was fun. Now, seems like it's always about a really serious (not fun) subject all the time. What is happening?, I like your point of view of things and the new subjects are interesting, but I miss the funness of your videos =(

  • I totally agree i know she got the tv deals and all but this is on the not fun side of things, still like the message just need that umphhh back you know.

  • You mean me talking about porn on the street the other week wasn't fun? Or my clown audition? hahaha. Maybe you've only been catching the serious ones and missing the fun ones. Either way, I think you'll enjoy next week's! :)

  • Yeah, the one about porn was funny, I guess I'm just full of all those news and subjects. I'm not even american, wait unitedstatian, lol, and I've had enough of all that. I know those serious subjects are probably the ones that pay the bills, haha but I love your videos when you go to the streets and talk about some more light stuff! Anyway, I love your work, keep 'em coming =)

  • great just say that you wrote it and i am a fan with a capital F. really i had stopped hoping for such observations on youtube. i loved it. and its very true. the same problem is with other machines of our contemporary lives as well.

  • I favorited this video. Disney wants to own everything - which would not necessarily be a bad thing - if eveything they produced wasn't mindless dribble.

  • This video gave me a headache.

  • pure counter culture poetry, love it

  • sarah palin :P.

  • gaga....

  • The next bright line is the headlights from the train, in route to the wreck (economy and more war....... PESSIMISM is the new Black).

  • They want the lights to dim on the bogus 'Green' scam. They want you to mindlessly believe the nonsense... so that the country will blindly accept Goldman's shadowy 'Cap & Trade' racket.

  • Really, Ramking61? So you believe that your computer is powered on gumdrops and happy dreams? Tell you what, why don't you stick a fork in a light socket so you can be filled with those dreams. Go ahead, do it. We'll wait.

  • That's a very accurate metaphor, Lori. Almost like the Eye of Sauron scanning the horizon of a blasted heath for any signs of life to feed on.

The next big thing will be driven by economics as always, whoever has the most spending power will be appealed to. As the population gets increasingly older on average, don't be surprised if some old favourites get resurrected, reanimated and couched in new technology.

  • Lori, you are Absolutely Sweet in this video! God, I was melting in my chair when I saw this "cute thing you have done with your hair at the top". You are one of the most charming, intelligent, beautiful and, from today, cute! I had to watch this video 4 times actually. 3 times, I was mesmerized by your cute hair thing. And the 4th time, I actually "Got the video". I want to meet you at least for a coffee when I am in New York next time from Singapore! God Bless, Lori!

  • Actually the Canadian comedy troupe LRR or Loading Ready Run quite successfully created a number of deliberate viral videos. One even made it to a mention on late night TV. People thought it was an actual, viral video.

  • The Resident in 1080p is the next big thing.

  • whatever the next big thing is I'm sure it will have something to do with sex appeal...sexy aliens coming to earth enslaving us with mind control!!!

wait...I think Bowie already did that.

  • Lady Gaga

  • (cont.) ...will give rise to a new, less flashy and shallow view in pop culture...At least for a short time.

  • Lori, as a child of the 80s, I see many parallels between that decade and our current one. Both were about corporate and personal greed, as well as living in excess. But in 1991-92 everything pretty much shifted overnight to the down-trodden and disenfranchised. The wealthy family in Growing Pains went to the struggling family in Rosanne. Pop Metal to Grunge. Digital Underground to Dr. Dre. I believe that the culture arising from the people who have lost their jobs and homes...

  • I'm pretty sure this is taylor swift at the moment but ye music is dying thanks to pol with no talent and audiotune

  • Comment removed

  • PREACH!!!

    TEACH!!!

  • I hope it's going to be something including grown ups. Teen idols are scary. Adulthood no longer something you look forward to, since apparently, it's when you're a teen you reach the pinnacle of your life.

  • Right now Sarah is the "next big thing". In our culture "arm waving crazy" is just about the same thing as "GOD". Well, it's always been like that, on now there is "media". The good news is we don't live forever, basic life is not a big game, and if we are reincarnated, we won't be able to join up with the forces of crazy until we start school.

  • Great message. And really liked the text popping up on the screen. (That red/black Courier font worked really well.)

  • conspiracy theory. revolution. lonliness. destitute of meaning. misogamists. anarchists. atheists.

  • I'm not sure but I hope its Shamanism...

  • pop stars made of kids. excellent line

    thanks lori

  • I feel that love and happiness should be the next big thing

  • I like the video 5 stars.. I think the next big thing is AmericaTEC(dot)com, along with the evolving concept of ultimately actualizing a second (AR) American Renaissance, if not then yes we can wobble right into the next Dark Ages...

  • i love pop tarts. i use them straight out of the toaster with icecreme.

  • She is so cute!

  • The Resident should be the Next Big Thing. But it'll probably just be another anorexic blond with no talent and nothing of value to say to the world.

  • Definitely someone rexy is next. :)

  • Number one!!!
