Very well done video and I totally agree with you on the whole bringing brass knuckles to a soccer game its just wrong and hurts people its just not right. Plus you don't get people out if the paint balls don't break (which alot of paint balls don't even break when you shoot someone with with baggy cloths on) so your only intention is to hurt someone.
@JonathanASk8s Watch the video response if you think it is impossible to freeze a paintball. I don't know who Mike is, but see the video and decide for yourself.
@JonathanASk8s im with you..places require you to buy their paint. Would have to bring dry ice and whatnot. Would be really obvious. Where you set up to fill your hopper is in the OPEN. You go through lots of hoppers in speedball, unrealistic to wait on your balls to freeze between every match. As you said, a lot of the balls were breaking in the gun who wants balls breaking in their $500 gun? All else fails, and you are hurting with your shots they WILL check your FPS and notice frozen balls.
Frozen gelatin has a crystalline structure that is very brittle. The filler inside of paintballs vary, but are usually oil based or glycol. The video was fine, it shows what would most likely happen if someone actually tried bringing frozen paintballs to the field in ideal conditions. The problem with freezing paintballs is that the materials have very low specific heat capacities which causes them to thaw very quickly. Unless a player was to bring their paintballs onto the field in a [cont.]
... cooler with something to keep both materials below their freezing points until the minute that they would be shot, the filler would liquify too quickly and the shell would still be extremely brittle. The end result would be a paintball that breaks easily and quickly. The quick breakage allows the filler of the paintball to disperse over a wider area, lessening the impact. That is not to say that there isn't a window where freezing paintballs wouldn't be viable for (cont.)
... maximum impact, but the time frame is ridiculously small, even in cold weather. In addition to the lack of time gelatin, at room temperature, will want to stick together if it is in contact with water. The condensation might not be enough to make a noticable change. But those with hoppers that automatically feed are going to see that the balls tend to break more easily, this is caused by the hopper forcing the already sticking ammunition apart, causing strain on the shell..
Summary. Unless you are carrying around your ammunition in a chilled flask and only loading exactly what is needed exactly when you need to shoot, freezing paintballs for shooting is not practical. Not only that, but if you are playing with other people, you are probably going to get banned from the field once they see you loading your marker from a smoking jar.
Thankyou taofledermaus for your video. As for commenters arguing about validity, read.
The freezing of the paintballs is just meant to inflict more pain play in the snow then you will know what im talking about. the better trick is to get allstars the orange ones and let them sit for 6 months they become like rocks and almost like chalk in the center
@JensenVids I don't mind criticism but anytime people start calling me names, whatever else is that has been said no longer is the focal point. The paintballs were put in a cooler with dry ice and were completely solid, but tended to remelt pretty fast so some were semi solid. It was a good observation on your part.
@JensenVids when you put paintballs in a "freezer" they don't actually freeze. he explained that when he said the paintballs are made of a gelatin. yes you can freeze paintballs, but you would need a pretty intense chemistry lab to carry out to the field. not likely to happen. basically, whenever someone tells you a story about "frozen paintballs" they are talking out of there ass
@JensenVids lol i love how ur the only one who's angry about this. I may be 12 but at least im mature enough to not send angry insults to little children. u really want to keep this up with ur blatant insults? fine. u wanna just end this and block me, sure. but im not blocking u, this is too much fun!
@JensenVids hey retard they dont completely freze because of whats in them they will break but if you look closely they are very slushy looking and a few actually broke parts near where it was broke paintballs cant become hard enough to shoot through drywall with whats in them sorry to tell you. and your name calng is dumb get a hobby bro
@JensenVids If they were truly frozen (by definition) then they would not have splattered, they would have punched a hole straight through the drywall as if he was shooting ball bearings at it.
Congratulations Sir, on creating a video that makes you look like a complete fucking retard, which anyone with sufficient knowledge of the sport knows is complete bullshit. right heres my proof you said this. i was saying i would not be a musket ball like you made it out to be in theComment
Another thing to...take a non frozen paintball and just squeeze with your index finger and thumb with the intent on busting it. Its actually harder than most people would think. If you have that flying at 300 fps..it usually doesn't feel very pleasant at all, but if you freeze a paintball and squeeze it...it just breaks....so i dont think a frozen ball would hurt as bad. what you need to get are some of those rubber riot balls but .68 caliber
i play paintball quite often and have experimented with frozen paintballs...not in the field but at my home. One observation I made on the accuracy with paintballs, frozen and unfrozen, the lack of accuracy could come from the fact that the balls are not actually full of paint. That would leave room for the paint for swish around inside, now that easily explained for the frozen balls because all paint would be on one side. Not so easy for non frozen balls
I can understand you might not know much about paintball since you said your not necessarilly a paintballer, but just by holding frozen paintballs in your hand, you would be able to feel that it is more brittle than regular room temperature paintballs, so the conclusion is it's more likely to break on target than room temperature paintball. This also means they take less time on the point of contact to break than regular paintballs. Which means less conetic energy, less pain.
It in fact hurts way less. letting paintballs get too warm causes them to become more rubbery and less brittle, they tend to bounce way more when they are warmer and it hurts a whole he!!u^@ lot more. Most rental markers you are going to find at any paintball field will not be able to fire a frozen paintball due to how harsh the bolt would strike the ball before it leaves the barrel basically making their marker useless. As noted in the video, frozen paintball have 0 accuracy due to consistency
So this still seems like a question that most new players and the general public keep asking. I play paintball for the West Point X-ball team and have been playing paintball since I was a young kid. Paintballs become very brittle when chilled and actually hurt much less than a room temperature ball. At events we actually temperature control our paint to make sure that it stays as round as possible and is as brittle as our guns will shoot it. This is not because it "hurts the other team more"
Im a paintball player and i got h it in the face mask with one and it cracked the vizor and then got hit in the back of the head with one and got a concussion
paintball slang for those dimpled balls are "deathstar " paint. the air gets caught on the dimple and fucks it up. if you put paint in a cooler..... speedball. if someone shot me with frozen balls i would light them up with my e grip.
@66686Bloodbrother Get some dry ice and actually "freeze" (by definitiion) your paintballs. They become rock hard. Or watch my video of me doing exactly that.
@taofledermaus wow this truly fail its a myth not true stop scareing poeple into not playing paintball paints do not have water in them there for do not freeze like a regulare ice cube they have a jelitin outside and like blood brother said they get britle there acutaly worse because they blow up in your gun and yes they are rock hard for about 5 minutes but after you get out to the feild they will be worse then the average paintball you realy dont know your stuff
dude i was playing paintball with some friends one time and the paintballs got too warm or something and wouldnt bust.hurt like a bitch.and people cheated
Man, you can watch those curve. That's pretty bad. As for the burst balls in the barrel, that happens pretty much any time a ball is damage, the barrel isn't lubricated correctly or there is dirt in the barrel. Long story short, ball has to pass out smoothly or it's going to pop.
I've heard of people firing marbles instead of paintballs. Dangerous stuff.
You should redo the narration of this video so you don't look so dumb. Frozen Paintballs will not hurt more, they do not do more damage and you should try it so you can debunk the myth yourself and call out all the liars who claim you can freeze a paintball solid.
@JRDN058 Because in (at least in my country) it's officially a sport and we have federations. Also, it is a competition that follows a set rules. That is basically the definition of a sport.
Not a trolling pro here... so this may have been stated already: the vid suggests the real rounds followed the shotgunned frostys... the legit ammo might be all over the board from barrel sludge. Even a pro can't shoot too straight with even a thin slime left inside
@taofledermaus i think he is talking about in a freezer not super freezing them... with that being said some pros actually cool there paintballs in the freezer to maake them more brittle
@buddyjonjon I am a paintballer too but it doesn't take a genius to realize EVERYTHING has a freezing point. Freezing paintballs expands and contracts the shell making it thin so as it heats up it ruins the paintball, similar to the effects of putting a bottle in a freezer. :P
@buddyjonjon What? Your spelling and piss-poor grammar make it really difficult to understand what you're saying. Paintballs will freeze. They are made of polyethylene glycol, gelatin, mineral water and some dyes. Nothing in there lowers the freezing point below 0°C. There's no imaginary shield stopping the liquid inside from freezing into a rock hard mass.
Now unless I'm missing something that somehow defies the laws of physics, they will freeze.
@greenghost121 I didnt get a good look at it, but yes im pretty sure its the Smart Parts Ion...I do not suggest buying that marker if your looking for one atm.
they only thing i cheat on is bringing my own paint loool fuck the prices at the field. i can get a case for 40 bucks, rather then 180 or 100 at the field lool
someone who freezes paintballs and brings them to the field is not only a dumbass....but i'd remove my 16" freak barrel off my gun and beat the living piss out of him with it!
I have seen this said on this thread before, but its worth restating. The frozen paintballs look like they would hurt a lot less then the thawed ones. The more brittle the paintball shell is and the thicker the paint the easier it will break. If it breaks the amount of discomfort from being hit is pretty minimal. You will know you where hit but no big deal.... When it does not break and just bounces off.... WELL THAT HURTS!!!
@JohannWendt No I'm more into the Planet Eclipse CSL line, or even the Dye NT11's, the GEO's and the more better guns, not some crap from smartparts, I mean it's an okay marker but I rather have something more reliable like an EGO or a DYE.
you didn't need to say that your not a player in the beginning ......all the real players can tell your not a player ,,,, that's quite obvious you are not a player just sayin......and if you dont play and know nothing about our sport don't post stupid videos plz ... common sense dictates you should look at the temperatures it takes to change the physical state of the materials that make up a paintball .......
I play paintball and im so sick of this myth. first of all it works like crap. second people look up reball. its solid rubber ball u shoot with a paintball gun on indoor fields. the only difference u do with the gun is that u lower the fps to 270 from 300. that is not a big difference that will make a huge difference when you get hit by it.
@MrgotPump people who freeze them are stupid.... my team puts ours in the fridge to make them more brittle, but freezing is stupid especially if your just doing it to try to hurt someone
you dont play paintball. let me explain why u cant use frozen paintballs:
since the frozen paintballs are less hard, and are a lot more brittle. when u get hit by one, U DONT EVEN FEEL IT when they are frozen. the people who talk about frozen paintballs are either douchebag pb players that try to scare others, or non pb players who heard the rumor.
Luv the vid.. thank u.

Dude, why are you worried of people using them on a paintball field as a cheapshot?
1. To win the paint has to get over someone, which by being frozen, it would be harder.
2. Those cheap ass people at paintball places don't let you bring your own paint
3. It is impossible to freeze a paint ball take it from a paintball expert like mike:

bounces hurt more. -impulse forces- J=F.T
the paintball's force is spread over less time when it bounces so it hurt more.
if it breaks, it takes more time for all of the force to transfer= hurts less.
frozen paintballs are more brittle and will always break more easily= hurts less. unfrozen paintball bouncing= hurts more.
freezing point of oil fill in paintballs is comparable to the temperature of liquid nitrogen, not your freezer.
the paintballs fly crazy -->they are full of dimples.

someone who freezes paintballs and brings them to the field is not only a dumbass....but i'd remove my 16" freak barrel off my gun and beat the living piss out of him with it!
frostbite0001 5 months ago
Awesome job on the video, I am a paintball field owner of 16 years.
gizmologist95 5 months ago
how do you slow down the video that much, do you use some kind of program?
TheFitnessShinobi 6 months ago
@TheFitnessShinobi The camera creates the slow motion, it isn't done in the video editor.
taofledermaus 6 months ago
@taofledermaus Oh wow that is very awsome, must be a high tec camera hahah

I have seen this said on this thread before, but its worth restating. The frozen paintballs look like they would hurt a lot less then the thawed ones. The more brittle the paintball shell is and the thicker the paint the easier it will break. If it breaks the amount of discomfort from being hit is pretty minimal. You will know you where hit but no big deal.... When it does not break and just bounces off.... WELL THAT HURTS!!!

@BruceJBCpaintball aww someone is an ion lover.
JohannWendt 5 months ago

MrgotPump 6 months ago
@MrgotPump people who freeze them are stupid.... my team puts ours in the fridge to make them more brittle, but freezing is stupid especially if your just doing it to try to hurt someone

you dont play paintball. let me explain why u cant use frozen paintballs:
since the frozen paintballs are less hard, and are a lot more brittle. when u get hit by one, U DONT EVEN FEEL IT when they are frozen. the people who talk about frozen paintballs are either douchebag pb players that try to scare others, or non pb players who heard the rumor.

brining brass knuckles to a soccer game isn't dangerous. it's not like you use your hands for anything in soccer anyway...
