Maybe I don't know for sure but I think it's because of so many creeks there is soooooo many creeks and rivers around here so when it rains alot they come up and like 3-4days before that it was raining constantly so I don't know what mountain top removal has anything to do with this

This flood would have happened, at the very same magnitude, no matter if MTR was a factor or not. Its common sense that when you get 6" of rain in a short period of time.. you get a FLOOD

i cried i was so devestated when this happend . we were out of school for teh rest of the year ,. i remeber we couldnt get out in our cars so we went down the road on 4wheelers. && the photo where the camper are at the lake , they grabbed my heart cause i was there a week before that happend & in the exact spot ,

Perfect song though for this video. I can't believe the ignorance of some commenters. MTR has everything to do with it. Areas in Kentucky has flooded that has NEVER flooded before in history. WTF? Some people are just so stupid. History has proven we as humans can live w/o electricity but not w/o water. I agree with you 100% my great grandfathers were a miners and never did it flood like this when they were mining until MTR started. Like you said people are ignorant. One day they will realize, but then it will be too late. Some people just do not listen & they must not care about their lives & the lives of those around them, family included.

It is nice to see more and more people seeing the same as I do with MTR. My grandfathers and dad were miners too. The water system I'm on here in KY is just down right nasty so I buy every drop of water I drink. Our land and people are precious. God made it that way for a reason and if these prim and proper folks got to know us well I just don't see how they could agree with MTR if they have any heart at all.

From 1:36 to 1:55, I live down in that bottom. It was crazy that night. My mom woke me up around 2 in the morning telling me that we needed to get out and we had to walk across the field, with the water almost waist high, up a huge hill to the main road in front of my house, because that was our only way out. Alot of people got it many times worse those, I feel for them.

Think about it. If a mountain or ridgeline is rained on; the water (should/usually) runs down all sides equally. However if you remove the top of the mountain or ridge and make that geological area (flat/flatter) then the new drainage pattern will be determined on how the new feature was (mind/sculpted). This could result in hundreds acres of rain water being drained to an area that did not receive as much drainage in the past. I hope the mining companies have the common sense to consider this.

Ok so it flooded on both sides of the moitain so which side did they drain it to? I have lived here all my life and I can tell you why it flooded. The RAIN! By the way it was the natural ground that slid off not the surface mines they held very well.

Mountains are what cause runoff, and runoff is what causes floods around here, so what does mountain top removal have to do with the flooding, maybe I don't know what I am talking about but this does not make any sense to me.

This had NOTHING to do with mountaintop removal. This area has been flooding since the earth was formed. Too much water running down too steep hills HAS to go somewhere. Nothing to see here. It's happened many times in the past and will happen many times in the future.

Yes I agree 100% that Mountain Top Removal needs to stop & stop now!! But how are we suppose to stop it if people refuse to open their mouth & go against the company(s) who do it. Instead people sit back & keep quiet about it. Just like they keep quiet about the company(s) drilling gas lines & causing a few places to flood worse. & the building of a new school causing destruction as well.
