Instead of legalizing pot how about instead just lessing the sentence for its use. Instead of putting people in jail why not start with probation and a fine and community service and then maybe no more than a year in jail but no serious jail time for it. If we completely legalize it that will be the government saying ok to sin. That would not be good.
"If we completely legalize it that will be the government saying ok to sin"
And who decides what is "sin" and what isn't? Since when it is the role of the government to dictate the religious morals of someone's favorite ancient text?
With someone like Pat Robertson making so much sense in such a short snippet, maybe there is a hope for the human race after all! Hallelujah from a rabid anti-theist atheist to Pat Robertson!
I think Pat Robertson beef about pot has to do about the sentence that is given out for the small amount of pot bust. NOT that there shouldn't be any kind of sentence. It still is a crime.
There are plenty of other things that do "nothing to improve ones good health", yet no person in his right mind would advocate throwing people in jail for possessing and using them.
Since when is it the business of the government to tell me what's good or bad for my health? If you oppose Obamacare and socialized medicine(Which I assume you do), why do you support such a blatant paternalistic policy?
@Akatam0t0ma I agree with you that there are plenty of things that do nothing to improve ones good health. Why pile on another. Also it''s bad enough that some people drink and drive why add another danger to the mix.
Because it's the responsibility of people to decide what drugs they take,NOT of the nanny state.
"Also it''s bad enough that some people drink and drive"
Yeah,so why not bring back the happy days of the Prohibition! Yipee!
Indeed, once again goes to show that most Republicans are no less statists than most welfare-state Democrats, yet they try to insult other people's intelligence claiming how much they care about freedom! Whom are you trying to fool?
The war on drugs is far worse and caused far more harm to society than any drug, so to say that "common sense must come into play", is to say that government should STOP trying to solve problems it has no business solving in the first place and get its slimy tentacles out of people's lives...DUH!
The instance we decriminalize marijuana is the day the drug lords in Columbia and Al Qaeida win. A few months back the CIA traced a money trail from Columbian drug lords to Al Qaeida using jets crossing West Africa. Do the research. Every time someone takes a puff of weed, the money is interchanged between people sitting in caves plotting attacks on the people they sell their product too. Mindless hypocrites.
Eventually reason prevails. Now if only Pat Robertson and Tom Tancredo could talk some sense into people like Mitt Romney, there may be some hope for the mainline conservative movement in America. But I'm not holding my breath as of yet.
@tillman40 Oh don't worry about that, if it came down to Paul and anyone else running, that is who would get my vote. I'm more concerned with what's going to happen down the road, the Liberty movement needs more converts, and a few big names couldn't hurt.

Get rid of welfare, most of the public sector, and let the pot smokers smoke. Natural Selection will take care of the rest.

And why possessing, or even smoking a plant should be a crime in the first place?
Akatam0t0ma 1 year ago
@Akatam0t0ma Well in the case of pot it's no vitamin , it does nothing to improve ones good health.

Good to see some of the Reagan zombies beginning to wake up (albeit decades behind the rest of the country).

Sounds like he has a brain in his head, even if he's still falling for that same old religious delusion. I can agree with him on this issue at least!
