I was one of the people who really wanted to love this movie but it just wasn't as amazing as I hoped for. Its certainly not a bad movie and I did like it but I found myself loosing interest.
ha, I'm the exact same way with Crash. Everyone in HS was going on on how it was god's gift to movies and I was so pumped to see it, but it ended up being nothing special imo. I should give it a rewatch without all the expectations though, but Brokeback is still my pcik of the two.
Different strokes for different folks...or however that saying goes:P
To my suprise I also really liked the movie. I really wish though that other people would give it a chance so that they can see that it's much more than what they think it is.
Great review Cris, but I can't stand that cliche movie. Just so many things in that movie where I want to hit the writer and be "Really? Did you just pick a newspaper and read about a situation like that? Or did you read the one about how the one guy killed the other because he couldn't commit? Or is the the draft that you didn't write because you thought it was too edgy?!?!" I just have my problems with cliched gay movies. Now, gimme something like All Over the Guy, and I'm happy.
Thanks, I agree with what you said, I was surprised to read that inerpretation of Jack Twist. He reminded me of Leo's character in Titanic, he was just pushing for something he really wanted: love. Man, what I just said was pretty cheesy, but true.
Nothing cheesy about love. Wanting it, giving it, or getting it. I really love this movie, too bad it's always used as a joke or spoof, gets really old.
Such a great film! Heath Ledger's and Jake Gyllenhaal's performances are incredible in this film and I also think that Michelle Williams did pretty well in it too. It's the first time I actually saw her in a role that wasn't Jen from Dawson's Creek and I was really surprised by her performance in this.
I agree with what you said about Jack Twist. He's not being a sexual predator at all. He just wants to be with Enis SO MUCH and that comes across on the screen. He's willing to do anything...
I know I keep saying this but I really do need to get round to picking this movie up. It sounds like a fantastic movie with incredible performances and I still don't have it lol.
Heath Ledger indeed gives the best performance of the film (and his career). His character was the most complex of all standing in between from choosing either his family or his identity. Good review Seb.

Dare I say it, I preferred Crash 100 times more.
I want to see it again though!
Great review as always.

Crash is one I still have not seen. You're meaning the newer Crash, right? Not the Cronenberg film Crash? Which is awesome, BTW.
MADPUPPETDEATH 3 years ago
Yeah the newer one. Cronenbergs one sounds interesting to say the least lol.

No one really spoke about Crash over here, not to me anyway. It was all about Brokeback so that probably had an effect lol.

... to be with Enis, even leave his only family because his love is THAT strong.
Beautiful setting, beautiful score, beautiful story, beautiful film. One of my favourites for sure =)
Great review! I really enjoyed it.

I didn't mean the love was cheesy, just the way I worded it seemed soap-opera-ish imo.
