@bjoseph6 I agree. I'm of mallu descent & I don't speak malayalam on a regular basis, rather English. I can speak enough though not fluently for my lovely grandparents when in India. It is b/c I feel more comfortable & at ease when speaking English even when spoken to in malayalam, and would only use malayalam when speaking to those who don't know English. It's not b/c I am ashamed of my roots. I knw Spanish and some Hindi too, and it's the same. Don't use them unless needed.
Some of our malayalee friend’s used to say: “ korachu koarach malayalam ariyam” ennu parayunna nammude so called malayaalikal ee professarude aduthu poyi malayalam padikkatte. Pinne nammude chila Malayalam chanalukalile angersum ee pandithante aduthu ninnum Yethrayum vegam Malayalam padikkendathundu. Prof. We wish you Good health. Keep going my dear professor.
Professor's pronunciation of Malayalam is excellent. He did a wonderful job. I appreciate his ability and enthusiasm to learn different languages especially our language Malayalam. Contd…
This is awesome. I just saw Dr. Moag perform at Thread Gills in Austin, TX about 3 weeks ago. Thanks for posting this. He's just as talented a musician as he is a linguist.
Amazing, this happens when our very own Malayalis start speaking Anglicized Malayalam. And some parents feel pride when they say their children can not speak their own mother tongue. Go Dr.Moag go. We are inspired by you as we hang our head in shame for disowning what we are and acting so PSEUDO.
Sir, I am awed by your ability to master so many languages. Truly proud of you.
Good show !!!. It is always great to see some one take the pains to learn a totally different language. And especially when the gentleman is visually impaired.
Mallus speaking in English are also doing great. But people may not like a Mallu speaking in English, when he could have done it in Malayalam itself. Malayalam parayavunna oru sandharbhathil English paranju aalukalude munnil keman aakan nokkunnavareyum kandittundu.
i'm in tears right now.... orupadu malayalam basha virodhikale eniku ariyam pakseh he is a legend... respect.. respect to you professor.... if given the chance i'll definitely come and meet you...
I dedicate this video to all those ABCDs who are ashamed of learning\speaking Malayalam & all those Manglish speaking DJs & VJs on all Malayalam channels
"What is absolutely the best thing you love about Kerala?" -- this question by Anchor Sruthi Renil is absolutely the height of Malayalee Hypocrisy. Asking such a question in English to a white Malayalam professor in Austin, Texas. Lol
Doshayum Chammanthiyum Sambarum -- what an appropriate response!
dammm........this guy can speak malayalam better then all the other mallus i kno........he fabulous!!!......if i cud speak that well....i might actually be able to understand wat my grandparents nd parents say 2 me.....lmao
I was an international student at the University of Texas at Austin where I studied electrical engineering in 2003. When my friends told me about Dr. Moag, I went and met him, he's blind but has an acute sense of hearing. He's a down to earth person and loves to speak malayalam.
Another famous malayali at UT austin is EC George Sudarshan - the guy who never won the nobel prize.
what a pity, shame on you interviewer, just look at that american, he is using only malayalam words, and do not mix english with it when he speaks malayalam, where as this girl, ahhh, shame, shame.....
did any one noticed tat this foreigner speaks well malayalam than the girl who is interviewng him who is a malayalee gal by herself ...really shame on her
he is amazing. ippol nattil ollaver polum malayalam padikan ishtapedatha timil oru american ithryum nalude language ishtapedunathu valare nalla oru karyam annu
AMAZING!!!! I love this guy. there should be more ppl like him out there.. i am very much glad that he picked malayalam to teach. the effort is 150% appreciated. Professor, keep being the extraordinary among the ordinary.
I can only imagine, but learning Malayalam from scratch is probably very very difficult; taking that into consideration, his Malayalam was actually pretty impressive.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This guy's malayalam is horrendous; his pronunciation is poor and his vocabiulary very limited. How could he possibly have been a Malayalam professor for 23 years at the college level when he speaks broken Malayalam himself? We need to stop shucking and jiving, and acting like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread when velambans pretend to understand our culture. A pathetic performance on his part and ours.
ummm! Is your Malayalam perfect "Mr. Joehoya3"?! I would love to know. He is certainly better than many English teachers and professors in Kerala - if you really feel like comparing and contrasting. To speak and profess a language, that is foreign, that is spoken by only about 0.6667% of world's population, is a highly commendable thing - even if it is 'broken.' I pity your apathy Mr. Perfect!
u shud compare the english of the best english professor in kerala to malayalam of this professor. if u use the same scale almost all the english professors in kerala will have to give up their jobs
@Joehoya3 You are too narrow-minded and terrible..even if it's broken or even if he can only understand..it's still treasurable to have some knowledge even if you lack a majoirty of it.
Impressive, especially given that his background was in mostly European languages. It definitely gives me more incentive to work on my (currently abysmal) spoken Malayalam.
I have seen many other nationalities here who speak Malayalam, but this is far beyond that. Hats off, I`m ashamed that being a Malayalee I `m no better.
Woah he came to our church a while back... It's amazing that he knows Malayalam so well especially the fact that he's blind
