Fuck, I'm terrified of the kind of response I may instigate. I am so unhappy at the unpopularity of the position that the individual experience is sacred and that one's relationship with nature is more important than their grasp of arete. I feel like Yuri Zhivago bracing himself for Strelnikov's Ire.
I can't leave this one alone. I understand The National is very ambiguous and that each listener must develop a personal relationship with their ouvre, but I am compelled to comment that their music is markedly apolitical; it is loosely existential and any political projection does it grand disservice. That national is imbued its value in part by its subscription to golden silence, just as important to its meaning is what is so emphatically not said.
I'm astounded that this was used as a national presidency election campaign video. I hope the video was at least called the audacity of shameless misappropriated hypocrisy. I think Obama is a remarkable president, that said, Republican Democracy is inexcusably flawed and can't be abided. Perhaps the greatest mind of American Philosophy said 'That government is best which governs least.' Another great philosopher also imputed to all coercion the property of deliberate violence.
@marxandengles England - The National, Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell, The Great Escape - Patrick Watson, The Fall Of Mister Fifths - Why?. Why do you ask mon amis?
@AdamOfTyndall 'cos its my favourite song too. just thought we would have a similar taste and therefore anything you liked i'd probably like - just trying to find new music bro.
@marxandengles Ah cool cool. I have a lot of other stuff I like but those songs really get to me for various personal reasons. Anything you can suggest to me?
@Laskawaii Song is allegory to America imperialism. Even still after 9-11 America as whole is unable to see the parallels of the fall of Rome as a world power.
The first time I heard this was at the Obama Grant Park victory celebration... they just played it without the lyrics (I think). It was also used as the background music to a video they played that nite. The music was really something that nite. Sound system was great too.
@marciskiwd Thanks... I am going to look for that video online, and hope i can get the soundtrack since it appears as though it was an instrumental track from Fake Empire.
@marciskiwd Thank you so much, i found the Obama video on here and saw it again... its one of the most inspiring and powerful videos I've ever seen and the music is stunning, perfectly matched, I like the instrumental version of Fake Empire almost better than the original... thanks for helping!!!
It is definitely one of his best election videos, and I agree, the music fits it perfectly. And even though the lyrics aren't in the election video, they still conform to the message quite well.

wanting to post a satisfied comment about the dislike bar, but I know some smug bastard somewhere will dislike this just to prove me wrong.
This one of my favourite songs of all time and my favourite of the album

The song was used in Obama's election video "Signs of Hope and Change".
Maybe that is the video played that night!
