  • when John Myung speaks, WE LISTEN!!!

  • OMG ! HE TALKS!

  • a phhsh i do that in my sleep

  • @CristianTejadaU I am a french man and I regularly listen Marcus Miller. It's very not jazz. More pop. Do you know Alain Caron? UZEB's bassist. He is good but John Myung are the best bassist on this planet.

  • @CristianTejadaU It's my opinion.

  • @Nicoderm1 yeah, ok, but actually you can compare something between jazz and progressive music (in general), they both have a huge level of complex language...but the jazz is well-know because is the most "complex" style in that.....john myung hasnt got that....yeah, i know he have a very good technique (actually, is not that good).

i respect your opinion....but i recommend you to hear good jazz fusion bassist, like: marcus miller, john patitucci, richard bona, etc.

    cheers!

    sorry 4 my english!

  • @CristianTejadaU if you like fusion check out "extraction" by dennis chambers, victor wooten, greg howe and dave cook! absolutely phenomenal album!

  • What kind of bass is he playing in these lesson videos?

  • @TheAchyliam It's a Tung, there were only 100 made, before the luthier went bust John has 4 of them I believe, I believe he also recorded Awake and A change of seasons with the one in this video. They are very very rare

  • i bet gene simmons cant play this.

  • @MrNyyra HAHAHAHAHHA I respect you opinion, but I can't believe what I'm reading! I like Myung and I like DT but there are so many bassist that are better than myung, Like Marcus Miller, or Patitucci or Pastorius, it isn't hard to hear the differences.

  • @monscream Wrong answer, I was answering to Nicoderm, sorry.

  • @CristianTejadaU You say that but Jaco Pastorius, its bullshit. Jazz player cannot be compared with progressive metal bass player. Whitout Geddy Lee, he have no bassist that are best that John Myung on this planet.

  • @Nicoderm1 hahaha, you are so funny :D, and BTW so ignorant

  • IS NOT SO HARD!! come on guys; i learn all ACOS, is not that hard. the only thing you have to do is sitting down and practice with a metrone all the hard parts.

he is not the bass god (jaco pastorius is), and many of DT song arent so hard. practice is the key to play well his song

    sorry 4 my english!

  • @CristianTejadaU Well it's not hard IF your technique is up to it! Like the ACOS run, I can play the entire song apart from that, as my fretting hand isn't fast enough, just takes practise!

  • @AttitudeCastle practise!, the key to ascencion!

  • @CristianTejadaU Very very true!

  • also my hand starts to hurts after a while:(

  • Does anyone know, in which section of A Change of Seasons, that this bass part appears? It's a freaking long song, and i will definitely have a hard time, finding this part. :/

  • @KnighferDK It's around 10-12 minutes in

  • Still not sounding good... needs more practice!

  • hey to anyone wanting to learn this at a bit of a slower rate, considering how slightly confusing it is when he explains this on here, check out my channel. how he does this so fast and precisely though is completely beyond me

  • He's Asian Jesus...:DDDDDDDD

  • what is that slapping sound? some sort of effect or compression?

  • @hojima i think it's because he plays really hard, and the strings collide on the pick up,when i play i have the same effect 'cause i like to push on the strings:)

  • Yea one of the perks of playing the upright bass as well as the bass guitar is that I have all of the left hand stamina that I'll ever need when it comes to bass guitar. I'm just not Comfortable with using my ring finger in that position. I'll work on that

  • I can't exactly figure out what he's doing... does anybody know that can tab it real quick?

  • @ikeeln00bz Too fast to see, not too fast to hear though:

    G|-6-7-6-4-, D|-7-6-4-6-7-, G-4-, D|-7-6-4-6-7-, G-4- & repeat

replace each 6 with a 5 and you have the second pattern.

  • @carlpi1 thanks! you are a beautiful person

  • i want his hand!

  • wow i didn't think that the middle finger was used in the pattern. damn have to re-learn this

  • MAN. THAT IS COMPLEX. \m/

  • HOLY SHIT!

    HIS VOICE!

  • This is insanely difficult compared to most other things.

  • OH MAH GAWD, HE CAN TALK! EVERYTHING I KNOW IS WRONG!

  • at first i was like ehh, thats not that hard. then he did it up to speed and i was silent.

  • Actually pretty fun to play

  • @ikeelnoobz k, I'll wait here

  • i wanna hear myung do some slap bass in a DT song

  • OK... 0:24 it's everything alright, im following you Myung... 0:28 FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • my fingers hurt from watching O_O

  • the jokes about myung not talking are so played out and unfunny at this point

myung is arguably the coolest member of the band....he doesn't really have any public embarrassments to speak of:

    jp: "ambipickstrous"

    jl: the canadian rap

    mp: every other forum post

jr: I'm sure theres something in there

jm: smooth sailin...other than that tackling labrie incident which wasn't really embarrassing as much as it was awesome

  • @manifestgtr haha ambipickstrous was funny as hell dude admit it

  • @manifestgtr John Myung tackled Labrie??? haha ive never heard of that! when did it happen?? and why? haha

  • @jman40194 haha yeah man...he tackled labrie on a bet at some gig quite a few years ago...I think the guys bet him something like $50 that he wouldn't do it...and if I remember correctly, he left his bass strapped on while he did it...

  • Excuse me while I go cry over the fact that I have zero skill.

  • God talks

  • I always thought he has a deeper voice... I only know him because of an Bass magazine and there he was called "The Silent Man". Haha, well he isn't THAT silent^^

    I love these excerice videos!

  • @EazyRun hahah this instructional video is probably one of the few public videos ever documenting John Myung talking. so yeah he is pretty silent. its funny to watch Jordan Rudess's video diaries and see John Myung in the corner, not saying anything, then as soon as JR gets close, Myung disappears hahah.

  • When did the rest of the guys at Dream Theater teach him how to talk?

  • @CapnKeys I don't know... You just see that he is pushing himself trying to talk XD

  • These really arent lessons not full atleast hes just showing that stuff but not really teaching em

  • @2scrimble9 the video/dvd actualy comes with a book of tabs for every exercise and he also goes through everything slowy first.

  • lol he can talk

  • There's no words..

  • He is the god of bass

  • @LEFT4BASS Far from god, but ok....

  • WOOOOOW

  • So fasttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt for lesson

  • I cant play that damn run, its the only thing keeping me from learning A Change of Seasons OR Instrumedely =(

  • Tis hard. Keep at it!

  • @MadBassist2 try learning overture 1928 :(

  • @MadBassist2 me too haha
