Hey man, cool video, could PLEASE tell me, how to get good on the arcade controller, I have a madcatz arcade stick. I started playing SF$ on ipod lol, i know, was hooked and bought an xboxb and arcade stick and I am way out of my league, any tips please.
Dude, I just bought my arcade stick but I don't know how to assign the movement stick on SFAE, I can however assign the buttons. My arcade stick is the Blazepro Arcade Stick. I already installed the drivers but still having problems on how to assign the movements (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT). Waiting for your reply, Thanks.
@raginghero007 assuming that u are on a pc i had that problem using the wii's tatsunoko vs capcom fightstick (madcatz) connected via bluetooth and emulated using glovepie. (i know it's excesively complicated but it's cheap :B) what i did was to emulate a controler with the ppjoy and it worked nicely. but after the update i could map the buttons to keyboard buttons and play normaly. summarizing, try ppjoy and see if it works :D
@arfy754 I agree, that's what he should've done. I would've also suggested that he NOT use the "3x punch" button and manually hit all three punch buttons... might be better for people to get used to, so they feel less awkward about plinking or even OS cr. tech and having to hit multiple buttons.
For some reason when I do FADC either I get the full focus animation or random moves begin to pop out after the FADC. Is there a way to prevent that from happening? I have a TE stick but still can't nail it down just yet.
I'm playing with the stick since November 2010, I bought a TE stick but I just can't get used to SRK motions. For example: I'm trying to do some of Yuns combos, c.lp s.lp s.mp > kicks - but I drop it too often, same with his c.mp s.mp combos. I think I'm doing the motion wrong or not fast enough.. Its been a long time since I started, normally I should've been comfortable with it, but I'm not. -_-
I think my overall problem is, that im too slow with SRK motions so I screw them up. Any advice?
Dunno why they call it "Focus Attack Dash Cancel" when any other game calls it a "Force Cancel" (and some others, like BlazBlue and Guilty Gear calling it a Rapid/Roman respectively)
Hi! im playing with a controller since SF 2 and im also pretty good with it! My bro gave me his stick for 3 days and i couldnt do anything! i had no feeling for it and i moved my hands like a robot, i didnt know how i should put my left hand on the stick...it wasnt comfortable at all :D...so i lost patience pretty fast and switched back to controller :) ...What i wanna know is...is it hard to learn perfect playing with a stick? how long time does it take if u practice 1-2 hours a day?
@izidor It does take quite a bit of adjustment going from a controller to a stick. For me, it took about 3 weeks to get comfortable with it where I was pulling off special moves and ultras without any problems. You really just have to accept that you'll be worse at the game for a period of time and just stick with it and practice. I honestly believe that when you've perfected it it's worth it, especially if you want to be super competitive. Good luck!
@Ossi101 I couldn't agree more with what you just said. I got a TE stick and I've regressed back to the days when I couldn't pull off qtr circles properly. You do get better but it takes time. The most important thing is that you know how to do the moves in the first place!
So does it have to be an EX move to do this? Or can you use regular shoryukens and etc. Because I saw ryu light up yellow as if he's doing an EX move between the shoryuken and FADC
@JTPlaya1029 You start with a normal shoryuken. The yellow flash is the canceling part of the FADC. The color indicates the usage of the special meter ( in this case 2 bars ).
You are doing more actions than required to FADC. If you hold the forward position of the stick at the end of the shoryuken input, you can FADC by pressing forward only once.
i just got the same fight stick and im pretty dissapointed with the joystick. i can switch from blocking standing up to a low blcok. i also have trouble with jumping backwards and jumping forwards.
The normal MadCatz fightstick is actually underrated. I bought a TE first, and I recently bought a MadCatz regular fightstick just to check it out, and I can do the exact same things on both sticks. I'm not any better using the TE.
So for all you guys who wanna get your first stick, just buy the regular cheap fightstick first and try it out. The TE sure feels smoother and more solid, but you're not gonna notice a difference in your gameplay, especially if it's your first time using a stick.
If you can't get into using the stick (like me, tried for 2 weeks and gave up), a really, really good compromise is the madcatz SF4 fightpad. I have been using it for over a year in both SF4 and SSF4 and it's incredible! So much better than the 360 controller and not hard to get used to like a stick. Of course, people are always going to say stick is still better, but I honestly have 100% execution with the fightpad. I would suggest it to anyone who is frustrated with the stick.
I have no problem doing FADC with the stick, however I am having problem with..... Let's say I am crouching and medium kick, my hadoken does not come out straight away, thus not creating the two hit combo, I had no problem doing this with the d pad. Is there a trick to doing hadoken while crouched down with the stick?
dude how du u get so good wid da stick i jus got mind and its hard to get adjusted wid ur fingers to the buttons u du it no problem but wid me i alwayz thinkin dat i have to move my whole wrist to press a button lol cuz im tryna play lyk how u and otha joystick players play :(
@jfachris You got to keep practicing. It took me about a month to get really comfortable with it, and during that time I was way better with the 360 controller. I still use this stick to this day ( square gate ) and it's now second nature to me. Keep at it and don't give up!
@jfachris A bit of both. I'm so use to it now, that I no longer notice the edge grinds of the gate. In my opinion though, square gates are good since if you get use to them on characters like Ryu you can swap to a charge character and not have to adjust your hardware.
I have Street Fighter 4 (xbox360) how much is easier is to play with that arcade stick over the controller? I have a problem doing the Shoryuken when Ryu is facing left.
@k3ntris You need to let go of the focus right away then dash right after. Think of it as a "piano-like" movement. You press the focus to cancel the shoryuken, then as you let go of the focus you dash. Hopefully that helps, good luck!
the number one mistake is not letting go of focus immediately after the dash. if you dont, then while your buffering ultra and realease focus, the negative edge will input a shoryuken. you have to let go right after you dash, before the first qc of the ultra. he didn't really explain this well or do any troubleshooting.
@spacecowboy95 This is BY FAR the easiest street fighter game ever made. If they made things simpler this game would be for retards instead of 12 year olds
I can't quite seem to get this. One of two things happens for me. Either 1) I don't dash out of the focus attack, so I end up canceling the animation of the special move but just end up doing a focus attack, or 2) I do successfully dash out but then dont' seem to have the opportunity to input any sort of move after that. I guess I should just practice it over and over again...
@Dark0blivion 1) When you successfully cancel the special move you should already be pressing the first direction for the dash. The special move > focus > dash needs to be on one quick motion - this is just a matter of trying over and over again to get the feel for it. 2) Just as you come out of the dash, you can buffer ( hide input ) of your first quarter circle at the end of the dash animation, then follow up with one more before pressing all 3 punches. Keep at it and good luck!
awesome tut. I love how u get right to it and also explain what you're doing. I dont mind the mistakes because you're accurately teaching. thanks and you are subscribed!
did you modify the fightstick with Sanwa parts? it's recommended that you do that cause the SE parts are crappy. I have one and replaced it with a Sanwa
once input the MP+MK starts the FADC, right? but then you state you have to dash in order to put another move. but can you can you instead of dash just crouch?
@bearair23 Depending on if you are in a corner or not the timing is slightly different. My suggestion would be to test out whiffed EX Shoryuken's without the FADC, and see how you move through the air. Generally out of a corner you want to do it a bit later than usual. And in the corner it's a bit easier since you can't over shoot your opponent. I hope that helps.
for your button mapping, do you use your 4th button (black buttons) as your 3x punch/kick? and is that whats the most common setting for most pros? ive been playing SF4 with the d-pad my entire life and planning to get the stick.
@crushin4fame In this video I did use the 4th button for the 3x punches. However I now just press the three punches at once instead. I find that the majority of competitive SF players shun the 3x punches unless you use a pad. Also - I highly recommend a fight stick if you want to get serious about SF.
@Ossi101 if thats the case, is the 4th button even necessary? another question i have is about the FADC, i noticed i get better results when i hold onto FA then dash then release FA to FADC, what your take on that? are you gonna be @ EVO 2010 this year? im thinking about entering the tourny with a d-pad (cant afford a stick right now)... bad idea?
@crushin4fame The 4th button is if other games require more inputs. It can be modded out if need be. If that method of FADC works for you then use it. Whatever feels comfortable to you and if you can pull off an ultra after then it doesn't matter. I won't be going to EVO this year, not really interested in prepping for a huge ass tournament quite yet. If you can hold your own with a d-pad - again - it doesn't matter so long as you are comfortable. But for me my arcade stick has upped my game.
"Only EX moves can be used to initiate a juggle after FADC, using another light, medium, or heavy Shoryuken or Hadouken will not hit the target even when contact may appear to have been made."
False statement =(. For example, one of Ken's combos even demonstrated in the combo challenges is a Fierce Shoryuken > FADC > Medium Shoryuken > Ultra. There are several more examples such as C. Viper's electric uppercut thing and Cammy's Canon Spike.
How do you do guile and zangief's ultra constantly. I have a hard as hell time pulling it off the 2 360's and the diagonally way you have to move for guile's Flash ultra never comes out for me, I'm using the the fightstick but I put all sanwa parts in it, not that that's helped me at all.
@finklemannn The easiest way that I do those moves is to buffer them off a normal. For Zangief try using medium kick, then in the time it animates buffer the 720 motion and input the punches (prevents you from jumping). Same thing can work for guile. I don't play those characters much so there might be a better way, but hopefully that will give you an idea.
its so funny how a lot of new players such as myself can only do the FADC on right side so when i encounter another play like myself we always ended up fighting for the right side for ultra..xD
@bociabana Move the stick forward, down, forward in a "flicking" motion. Also, the shortcut for shoryuken is double tapping a bottom diagonal ( depending on which direction you are facing ) and pressing punch.
I just got a Fightpad Controller [X360] and I'm having trouble with combos (especially Fei Long's moves). Maybe I just suck, but I'd appreciate some tips :)
PS: Is the black Ryu a costume or a color; if so what costume/color is it?
it is possible if i can make a video on how to do fdac into ultra on the left side showing ur hands? (1st player) i couldnt do the ultra on the left side at all. i`m using the Te stick,
it is possible if i can make a video on how to do fdac into ultra on the left side? (1st player) i couldnt do the ultra on the left side at all. i`m using the Te stick
do u guys set focus attack as 1 button or 2? i need some advice becus im having trouble hitting 2 buttons to focus/cancel. please helpp! which is easier and if i set one button as focus, how would i do my ultras cus i wont have any more buttons for lp mp hp / lk mk hk's... =(
How about leaving tutorial videos to ppl who are atleast decent at the game and can actually demonstrate a basic move such as the shoryu fadc into ultra. Or atleast show ppl the recommended way with the 3 buttons instead of the shortcut.
Im considering getting a stick, been a while since I last had one,
best I have for SF4 right now is the Mad Catz fight pad, which is excellentin the fact it has the classic 6 button layout which is essential for the purists,
Your rubbish at doing focus dash cansel what a lame tutorial i dont even no why i clicked here lol i jus saw it and i thort let me see the comments the man whos teaching how to ultra fadc cant even pull it out him self. i can do 1000's without missing
whoa man, i commented on lord of ultima's video "the akuma comboratory" and some dude said to me that i should hold focus (mp+mk) then double tapping forward,(for FADC) is that true?
@Martin8642 With stick pros only use 3 buttons rather than having 3 buttons in one button. So is Lp Mp Nd HP You press them 3 together to pull of a ultra rather than just using 1 button that has 3 because is much better that way
This tutorial is really good for someone who's played Street Fighter for a while. If a beginner fresh to SF4 watched it, I could see a little confusion brewing. But yeah, it is a solid vid though! :-)
I'm having trouble doing the any "hadouken" type of move on the right side... freaking hate it... I'm practicing and there are sometimes when I get it.. and it comes out easily but stop playing for a couple of days.. when i come back... screwed!
THANKS MAN!! I keep practicing and I see the improvement however sometimes the moves still don't come out... and yeah I tap that's what I like about the stick... you have more control over the buttons!...
keep holding forwards, do the dp and hit the focus attack teh moment it hits and keep holding those buttons down, then go neutral and tap forward again, as you hit forward let go off the focus attack and then wait a bit for the oponent to fall a bit then double fireball ultra. It's just lots and lots of practice
All I've got is the xbox controller atm and it's annoying as hell, you can really see where it's limited and where a stick would work out better.
So I've found a few shortcuts that work easier. To FADC cancel after a dp, I just keep holding forward and do the dp motion then instantly focus attack while still holding forward, then neutral and forward and it'll do the dash. So instead of pushing forward twice, you only have to do it once.
Yeah man the switch is pretty brutal, it's really worth it once you get used to it. Might take weeks or even months to fully get used to it though, I'm still not executing combos 100% yet. I'm a noob too though so I dunno
I hate this game with a passion! Don't get me wrong the game is pretty good the graphics are ok i love playing it, BUT I CAN'T PLAY ONE FUCKING LEVEL WITHOUT BEING CHALLENGED TO A DAMN FIGHT BY SOMEONE WHO'S BEEN PLAYING LIKE A FUCKING YEAR!
Hey man thanx for the video ... I play with Cody can do all his fadc combos from right to left but can't even simple fadc in ultra one from left to right any advise ????

I'm still struggling to pull these off. I know the concept of it just can't pull it off.
e.g. Akuma - HP shoryuken > FADC > flaming fireball.
Everytime I go to do the FADC it never cancels, and I'm even dashing forward twice. It either bodges up, or ends up doing a focus attack instead.
Do you hold onto the FA until you input the dash, or do you let go and then dash forward twice?

Either 1) I don't dash out of the focus attack, so I end up canceling the animation of the special move but just end up doing a focus attack, or 2) I do successfully dash out but then dont' seem to have the opportunity to input any sort of move after that. I guess I should just practice it over and over again...
Dark0blivion 1 year ago
@Dark0blivion 1) When you successfully cancel the special move you should already be pressing the first direction for the dash. The special move > focus > dash needs to be on one quick motion - this is just a matter of trying over and over again to get the feel for it. 2) Just as you come out of the dash, you can buffer ( hide input ) of your first quarter circle at the end of the dash animation, then follow up with one more before pressing all 3 punches. Keep at it and good luck!

NarutotheSage09 1 year ago
did you modify the fightstick with Sanwa parts? it's recommended that you do that cause the SE parts are crappy. I have one and replaced it with a Sanwa
boredstudent 1 year ago
@boredstudent It is modded now with Sanwa parts.
Ossi101 1 year ago
@Ossi101 that's a wise decision. stock MadCatz parts are shit. I think those SE fightsticks are meant to be modded
boredstudent 1 year ago
once input the MP+MK starts the FADC, right? but then you state you have to dash in order to put another move. but can you can you instead of dash just crouch?
pepinhus 1 year ago
@pepinhus Crouching won't stop the focus attack short. You need to dash out of it, hence the term Focus Attack Dash Cancel.

Ossi101 1 year ago
@bearair23 Are you trying to do the EX Shoryuken on juggle?
Ossi101 1 year ago
for your button mapping, do you use your 4th button (black buttons) as your 3x punch/kick? and is that whats the most common setting for most pros? ive been playing SF4 with the d-pad my entire life and planning to get the stick.
crushin4fame 1 year ago
@crushin4fame In this video I did use the 4th button for the 3x punches. However I now just press the three punches at once instead. I find that the majority of competitive SF players shun the 3x punches unless you use a pad. Also - I highly recommend a fight stick if you want to get serious about SF.
Ossi101 1 year ago
@Ossi101 if thats the case, is the 4th button even necessary? another question i have is about the FADC, i noticed i get better results when i hold onto FA then dash then release FA to FADC, what your take on that? are you gonna be @ EVO 2010 this year? im thinking about entering the tourny with a d-pad (cant afford a stick right now)... bad idea?
crushin4fame 1 year ago
@crushin4fame The 4th button is if other games require more inputs. It can be modded out if need be. If that method of FADC works for you then use it. Whatever feels comfortable to you and if you can pull off an ultra after then it doesn't matter. I won't be going to EVO this year, not really interested in prepping for a huge ass tournament quite yet. If you can hold your own with a d-pad - again - it doesn't matter so long as you are comfortable. But for me my arcade stick has upped my game.
Ossi101 1 year ago
"Only EX moves can be used to initiate a juggle after FADC, using another light, medium, or heavy Shoryuken or Hadouken will not hit the target even when contact may appear to have been made."
False statement =(. For example, one of Ken's combos even demonstrated in the combo challenges is a Fierce Shoryuken > FADC > Medium Shoryuken > Ultra. There are several more examples such as C. Viper's electric uppercut thing and Cammy's Canon Spike.

How do you do guile and zangief's ultra constantly. I have a hard as hell time pulling it off the 2 360's and the diagonally way you have to move for guile's Flash ultra never comes out for me, I'm using the the fightstick but I put all sanwa parts in it, not that that's helped me at all.
finklemannn 1 year ago
@finklemannn The easiest way that I do those moves is to buffer them off a normal. For Zangief try using medium kick, then in the time it animates buffer the 720 motion and input the punches (prevents you from jumping). Same thing can work for guile. I don't play those characters much so there might be a better way, but hopefully that will give you an idea.
Ossi101 1 year ago
@Ossi101 thx ossi101 i'll give it a try.

for pad players on 360 i use LT as focus much easier to dash out of :P

its so funny how a lot of new players such as myself can only do the FADC on right side so when i encounter another play like myself we always ended up fighting for the right side for ultra..xD

Can you tell me how to do shoryuken because I try to do but often do Hadoken. Its hard in AS I'm new in AS's.
bociabana 1 year ago
@bociabana Move the stick forward, down, forward in a "flicking" motion. Also, the shortcut for shoryuken is double tapping a bottom diagonal ( depending on which direction you are facing ) and pressing punch.
Ossi101 1 year ago
I have that same AS and I have SQUARE gate you too ??

do you a focus attack to end the shoryuken
or only dash forward

@MrFab189 The focus attack ends the shoryuken, and you dash out of the focus attack to follow up with the ultra.

How about leaving tutorial videos to ppl who are atleast decent at the game and can actually demonstrate a basic move such as the shoryu fadc into ultra. Or atleast show ppl the recommended way with the 3 buttons instead of the shortcut.

Im considering getting a stick, been a while since I last had one,
best I have for SF4 right now is the Mad Catz fight pad, which is excellentin the fact it has the classic 6 button layout which is essential for the purists,
But does anyone know if Hori made a stick one?

if you are going to fdac in the corner back dash instead of going forward because its easier to hit the ultra.

This is an old video. At the time I was pretty new to the concepts of SF4. I do not use those two end buttons anymore.
Ossi101 2 years ago 3
but then how can you do the ultras?
Martin8642 2 years ago
@Martin8642 With stick pros only use 3 buttons rather than having 3 buttons in one button. So is Lp Mp Nd HP You press them 3 together to pull of a ultra rather than just using 1 button that has 3 because is much better that way
PSTRIPPLEE 1 year ago
i can do fadc with keyboard every time i try
i can`t play with sticks and pads :\
and i will never play a tournament because of this

This tutorial is really good for someone who's played Street Fighter for a while. If a beginner fresh to SF4 watched it, I could see a little confusion brewing. But yeah, it is a solid vid though! :-)
Raiken05 2 years ago
you should press all three punches instead of using the punch x3 button. better training for if you play at an arcade or tourny :)

@mztguitar keep practicing, I have one week with my TE stick and I've been doing good ;) keep practicing and you'll get it right ;)

im trying to get ryus shoryuken fadc ultra on a controller? Anyone got any tips on how to learn it?
sprinter223 2 years ago
keep holding forwards, do the dp and hit the focus attack teh moment it hits and keep holding those buttons down, then go neutral and tap forward again, as you hit forward let go off the focus attack and then wait a bit for the oponent to fall a bit then double fireball ultra. It's just lots and lots of practice
intense7 2 years ago
Nice vid, how long do you hold the FA button(s)? I think I perform FA a little too long.
ayers01 2 years ago
You just need to tap it. Maybe half a second.
Ossi101 2 years ago
All I've got is the xbox controller atm and it's annoying as hell, you can really see where it's limited and where a stick would work out better.
So I've found a few shortcuts that work easier. To FADC cancel after a dp, I just keep holding forward and do the dp motion then instantly focus attack while still holding forward, then neutral and forward and it'll do the dash. So instead of pushing forward twice, you only have to do it once.
intense7 2 years ago
I bought the TE stick, i've been a pad warrior for like 5 years, playing with the stick is so freking hard!! damn!!!
ThePsychoCrusher89 2 years ago
Yeah man the switch is pretty brutal, it's really worth it once you get used to it. Might take weeks or even months to fully get used to it though, I'm still not executing combos 100% yet. I'm a noob too though so I dunno

it's a good video, but kind of funny that the dude doing it can barely do this himself! it definitely requires some thumb gymnastics....
A tip for FADC'ing to ultra: YOU MUST RELEASE MP & MK AFTER THE DASH CANCEL!!
if you do not, then even if you press PPP, you will still only get an EX shoryuken...
This is why the dude kept getting EX shoryukens rather than his ultra.
I have a bad habit of not releasing MP & MK beforetrying to ultra, and I'm sure I'm not alone...
